Criminally Underrated movies. (1 Viewer)

"It's Kind of a Funny Story"

Zack Galifianakis, Emma Roberts & Keir Gilchrist. No one's ever heard of it when I mention it. Its about depression and mental illness with a bit of teen romance.

Roughly half the movies mentioned so far are not underrated, let alone criminally underrated.
You're right. Papillon was a terrible take by me. It's 92 on RT :bag:

I guess I just never heard it in the mentions of top movie lists.

OK so not under rated.

I'll go with Pet Sematary (41 on RT). That movie is freaky.

Reindeer Games also The Jack Bull but I believe it was a made for TV HBO I think so it may not count.

My Blue Heaven (1990, Steve Martin); 71% rotten tomatoes

Three O'Clock High (1987); 67% rotten tomatoes

Don't know if they are criminally underrated, but my two suggestions.

Children of Heaven

Incendies

The Man from Nowhere

Wristcutters

Garden State

Kon-Tiki

The Kings of Summer

Another Earth

Castaway on the Moon

Payback. Mel Gibson movie.
That's one of the few I prefer the theatrical version to the director's cut. No voice over in the DC and this movie was made for a voice over.
Didn't realize there was a director's cut... weird. Taking out the voiceover would definitely change that film a lot. Did they also replace all the guns with flashlights?
Lol no. It was grittier. No Kris Kristofferson. Some lady on the phone was the big boss. Bloddier at the end. Not as happy an ending.

I hate this movie so bad.
Nothing is for everyone but what's your beef with it?
I haven't seen it since it was released, but I remember going from disappointment to outright hostility at the hacky ending. The good guy about to get shot by the bad guy, but the other good guy who you thought was dead shoots the bad guy in the back. Ugh, awful.
Fairly cliche there yes. Rest of the movie was gold though. Its funny my first viewing was meh when I saw it all those years ago. It grew on me after many viewings. Now I have to stop to watch it every time its on.

Love that movie too.

I actually started reading the books this movie was based on. It';s a whole series of pulpy, noir books. Look it up, the Parker series. There's like 20 of them. Payback is based on the first book.

Related to the film "Parker" starring Statham?

Yep. Donald Westlake is the author, but the Parker books were all under the Richard Stark pen name.
