Cris Carter: Randy Moss “full of regret” he’s not a Patriot

Posted by Michael David Smith on December 15, 2010, 11:20 AM EST

In the weeks since Randy Moss was traded out of New England, the Patriots have become the best team in the league while Moss has become irrelevant. Moss’s old teammate and mentor says Moss now wishes he could go back.

Cris Carter said on WEEI that Moss is “full of regret” for forcing his way out of New England. Moss’s trade to the Vikings was preceded by grousing about his contract and complaining about the play calling.

Now Moss is getting fewer passes thrown to him than ever before, and he’s certain to make less money in 2011 than he would have if he had stayed in New England and been a good teammate. Carter says game tape showing Moss loafing on the field is going to make teams shy away from him in free agency.

“Bad effort. Bad video,” Carter said. “That’s how we evaluate talent in the NFL, we watch the video. And we analyze it on what we see.”

And what we’ve seen this year is Moss failing to produce, for three different teams.

Teams do not need Diva WRs to win.

Moss forced his way out of NE, TO forced his way out of SF and Philly. Marshall forced his way out of Denver, Boldin forced his way oot of Zona. All of the situations these guys were in were far better than what they are in now. Be careful what you ask for.

Randy Moss is a POS. I hope the rest of his career is a failure and that he is miserable. He is what is wrong with the NFL.

Fantastic talent from the neck on down. However, from there on up it is a wasteland.

If the Patriots win the Super Bowl this year, does Moss get a ring since he was on the team? That should cheer him up.

:goodposting:

Don't think that Marshall is too sad that he is not around for the dumpster fire that is currently going on in Denver either.

LOL. I was just thinking the same thing. My guess is Fitz right about now is wishing he were more "vocal".

Yeah Boldin is super pissed he's going to the playoffs while Fitz is going to waste the best years of his career losing 10 games a year.

 Also dumping Boldin in with the others seems a little wrong here to me.

It is amusing to watch him reap what he has sown. I hope the league gives him the TO treatment next season and he ends up groveling for a job.

Yes he does.
He only gets one if the organization decides to give him one. He doesn't get one automatically. And IMO, there's no way the Patriots give him a ring.I'll honestly be surprised if any team is willing to sign him next year, even for the veteran minimum. He was always worth the trouble because his talent was so overwhelming. But it's clear that he's lost a step and the talent can't do it alone anymore. So without the superhuman talent, the headcase is no longer worth the risk. Career over. Goodbye Randy.

Yeah, Randy really scre### the pooch on this one. Now he'll only want to play for a contender, but no contender will want him. So he'll be stuck with a basement dweller, but both they and he know that he won't show any effort for a basement dweller, so they won't want him. Couple that with the fact that he can't get open anymore and can't make the athletic play anymore. He can only catch a perfect deep ball that hits him in stride. Guess what? Anybody can do that. So what good is he to a team?

He's the Allen Iverson of the NFL at this point. He'll be playing in the Turkey Football League next year.

Well then he should have shut his trap when he was there.

NE looks a hell of a lot better without having to appease his need to be part of the offense.

Just last week cris carter said the Patriots were a better team with Moss. He's an idiot.

That said...

Moss should have regrets about it.

the two players considered for the 2nd best WR of all time will both most likely be unemployed this offseason due to attitude

TO will be a very short unemployment. He proved he could still play in this league. Randy? Who wants the headache? Someone will.

It's pretty amazing that the 2nd (Moss) & 3rd (TO) most prolific receivers in NFL history have such a bad bad rap.

For all the highlight real catches, multiple TD's, monster fantasy performances, there is also all this baggage and negativity.

Pretty amazing to consider that these two are the 2nd & 3rd greatest after Jerry Rice.

Um... this wasn't blatantly obvious after Moss's press conference when he talked about how much he missed the Patriots?

Wow..maybe you should look in the mirror...lots of anger in this post. Calling another human a POS is a sign of a troubled soul. Wishing misery on another human is also very selfish.

What, is Cris Carter Captain Obvious now or what?

The funny thing is that I am sure Moss thinks he could still be along for the ride, when there is no way of knowing if the Patriots would be playing as well as they are if he were still there. Odds are, they wouldn't be.

This is Randy Moss. Everyone said the guy was done in his Oakland years. He's going to bust his ### in the off-season; get signed to a team. Slowly climb the depth-chart in pre-season and have a monster year. Why? To spite all the people who are talking like this. Randy's not going to go out like this; he's going to go out on his own terms.

He plays when he wants to play.

...will he do what I say he's going to do? Absolutely; he's talked about as the second-best Wide-Receiver of all time for a reason.

Doubtful.Would you like a list of all-time great players (all of whom rank much higher than Moss) who didn't go out on their own terms? Not many NFL players are afforded that luxury, even most great players.

The guy made a one-handed grab over Darelle Revis (the best corner in the league) earlier in the year. Now he's supposedly done? Moss half-asses his play when he's unhappy; hrm.1.) New England traded him because he was unhappy.2.) Has a GREAT first game in Minnesota; then gets unhappy. Vikings drop him.3.) Goes to Tennessee to post mediocre numbers with a mediocre group of QBs.Are we to assume Randy is really too enthused with the way his season has gone? This isn't just SOME GUY hanging on to a legacy. He's beaten decent corners for his signature bomb touchdowns just this season (Antonio Cromartie).Go ahead and write him off. He'll find a home this off-season (just like TO did). Most people said TO was done this year; I have been happily enjoying his productivity on my FF Squads.

He left Oakland four years ago. Wide receivers age at the same rate as dogs.

Randy Moss is currently 33.Hines Ward is 34: still producing.

Terrell Owens is 37: still producing.

Chad Ochocinco is 32: still producing.

Derrick Mason is 36: still producing.

I understand WRs tend to stop producing as they age; but it's been proven in this league they can hang around into their 30s. If there was anyone who could do it; I'm betting the house on Randy Moss.

When Randy can't make plays like that; then I'll say he's done. Given his history of proving the critics wrong he's going to be motivated for next season. Again you don't have to agree with me; I'll acquire him for marbles.

Please...please!!!

Do not offed us Moss owners who had been starting him in TEN by saying mediocre.

No, he's not. He's toast. He won't be able to get a gig with a team that has a legitimate NFL QB. He may get a gig with a hack team and therefore he will produce like he is now.

The difference here is that he gets lazy when he is not the focal point of the offense. Randy Moss used to be amazing because he had no great tells if the ball was coming his way or not. It's very obvious though, because he pouts and runs a lazy route if he is not involved. It seems teams think at this point he is not worth this problem anymore. Also, I kind of compare him to Ken Griffey Jr. (This is just my opinion, here) I think both guys were just freaks of nature. I don't think either had to work very hard to maintain their level of play in their prime. I don't think either worked as hard as a T.O or A. Rod to maintain that physical peak. Things don't come as easy to Moss anymore and that is frustrating in and of itself.

10 Titans had a pass target yesterday. Moss was not one of them, despite Tennessee falling behind 24-0 midway through the 2nd quarter.

But he did come thisclose to getting in the game when some rookie WR I've never heard of got dinged up. So there's that.

In a 1997 Sports Illustrated article, when discussing the 1970 Marshall plane crash, Randy Moss was quoted as saying, "The plane crash was before my time. I don't try to go back in the past and say this football game is for the people in the plane crash. I've seen the burial ground. I went up there and looked at the names. It was a tragedy, but it really wasn't nothing big."
