Cris Carter to NFL Rookies: Make sure you have a fall guy (1 Viewer)

Video was up on the NFL website earleir today. It has since been removed. It can still be found here:

http://www.brobible.com/sports/article/cris-carter-nfl-rookies-fall-guy/

Last week during an interview with ESPN, former 49ers linebacker Chris Borland revealed that a certain Hall of Fame player advised him to get a “fall guy” during the rookie symposium.

Borland didn’t name the player who told him to get a fall guy in the piece but the Internet did a little searching and found this video on the NFL’s website of Cris Carter and Warren Sapp talking to rookies and giving them life lessons. In the video Carter can be seen telling players to make sure they have a “fall guy” in their crew just in case they get into trouble with the law.

Because all you guys aren’t going to do the right stuff. I need to teach to you how to get around all of this stuff too. If you have a crew, one of them fools need to know that they’re going to jail.
I know a lot of you aren’t going to drink, i know a lot of you aren’t going to use drugs but still get yourself a fall guy”
Considering that this video was approved by the league and put on the NFL’s website is not a good look for the NFL especially after the multitude of scandals they’ve had to deal with in the last year.

Update

The NFL has issued a statement about Carter’s presentation at the rookie symposium:

This was an unfortunate and inappropriate comment made by Cris Carter during the 2014 NFC rookie symposium. The comment was not representative of the message of the symposium or any other league program. The league’s player engagement staff immediately expressed concern about the comment to Cris. The comment was not repeated in the 2014 AFC session or this year’s symposium.
ESPN also issued a statement:

We completely disagree with Cris’s remarks and we have made that extremely clear to him. Those views were entirely his own and do not reflect our company’s point of view in any way.
Cris Carter has now apologized for the remarks

Dumb thing to say, but there is an ounce of truth to the advice.

The better advice is to just not put yourself in those situations, but a backup plan doesn't hurt.

Not sure what Cris Carter brings to the table as a commentator. ?? Same with Warren Sapp. Of course he was quick to agree.

Perhaps. But isn't it hypocritical of the NFL to give this advice at their rookie symposium and then come down hard on Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson? Or perhaps that is their message. They should have had a fall guy.

I think that the NFL was at least 'generally aware' of this conduct by CC. So...they are accountable, right?

But seriously, according to the NFL themselves, they knew about the comments and 'immediately' admonished CC. But, then they put the darn video up on the NFL website for 14 months. And also invited CC back to speak again in 2015.

And NOW it's an issue.

It surfaced now because Chris Borland cited it as one of the reasons he retired.

Given the NFLs problems you would think the message should be take responsibility for your actions.

how did no one see this or talk about it? Seems crazy, even a year ago.

I'd appreciate it if the SJWs and PC Police could stay out of the NFL. The fans don't care about this nonsense.

really? Seems like a pretty big deal that rookies are being told that if you kill someone or do something thats going to send you to jail, find someone to go to jail for you.

Worst part about this is now he's going to go on their pre-game show crying and sobbing about how hard he's had it his entire life, while Boomer and Tom silently nod and then they'll throw it to Browns-Texans highlights, but with no music, since it's a somber moment.

We completely agree. Unfathomable that the NFL knew of this, and yet posted the video etc. Talk about a boneheaded move given the current image and discipline problems.

I'm not sure how much I blame the NFL in this. Someone posted that this happened at the NFC symposium and people got to Carter afterwards and he didn't repeat it at the AFC symposium. Sounds like he went off script and they immediately addressed it.

Do I think less of Carter? You bet. Ironic that a recovering addict is giving advice on how to not take responsibility for one's actions.

"It was my buddy Steve that whipped my kid in the balls."

Come on now guys, ALL WITH ME NOW....

When you get drunk at the club and punch a ##### in the face?

GET A FALL GUY!

When you drive 145 with a kid, weed and guns?

GET A FALL GUY!

When you get busted knee deep in ya-yo?

GET A FALL GUY!

When you pick a fight with Drake and shoot up the place?

GET A FALL GUY!

Maybe it's because it's early in the morning and you're likely on meds, but this made me laugh. I'm singing right along to the tune of the Beastie Boys' "AWOL"

Chris carter is a hypocrite. Here were some of his thoughts on deflategate... It's funny seeing the nfl/ESPN experts talk about integrity but yet we players should have a fall guy.

CARTER: IF THEY FIND INFORMATION THOSE BALLS WERE DELIBERATELY TAKEN AIR OUT OF, YES, IT WILL AFFECT HIS LEGACY. BECAUSE THIS IS A GAME ABOUT INTEGRITY AND THIS IS A GAME ABOUT RULES. ITS NOT ABOUT EVERYBODY ELSE BREAKING THEM. YOU GOT CAUGHT. IF THATS WHAT THE JURY SAYS THAT WILL CHANGE THE LEGACY BECAUSE THAT CHANGES IF YOU ARE PLAYING WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF A SMALLER BALL. ESPECIALLY IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, ESPECIALLY IN INCLEMENT WEATHER A SMALLER BALL HELPS YOU.

DILFER: I THINK THATS SUBJECTIVE. I AGREE THIS LEAGUES BASED ON RULES AND IT DOESNT MATTER IF OTHER PEOPLE BENDING THEM AS WELL. AS ME AND YOU BOTH KNOW THEY ARE. IF THEY GET CAUGHT

CARTER: I DONT KNOW THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE BENDING THE RULES.

DILFER: YOU DONT KNOW TEAMS HAVE STASHED PLAYERS ON I.R. FOR YEARS BECAUSE THEY CAN PLAY MORE FOR THE SALARY CAP, THAT THEIR PRACTICE HABITS THEYRE DOING ONE-ON-ONE PASS RUSH DRILLS IN THE OFFSEASON WHEN THEYRE NOT SUPPOSED TO, THAT THEY ARE CONSTANTLY TESTING THE BOUNDARIES OF NFL RULES?

LEVY: THERE ARE DIFFERENT WAYS TO GET A SLIGHT EDGE.

DILFER: I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS A SMALLER BALL BECAUSE IT HAS TWO PSI LESS IN IT IS NOT AS WILD A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AS YOU MADE IT OUT TO SOUND.

Isn't that what Aaron Hernandez tried? How'd that work out for him?
No, actually it's not. Hernandez tried being a stone cold moron, that didn't work out for him. A fall guy might've helped him actually.
Aaron Hernandez was the fall guy for Tom Brady.

and this wasn't even just a one comment slip of the tongue that he could have laughed off...(like I think Sapp initially wanted to do, I think HE was even surprised CC said it, which is something in its own right).....carter even had the opportunity to realize what he had done and chang directions by saying "obviously I was joking" or something like that ......but he continues on and keeps hammering the point home....so it is obviously how he really feels......in his HOF jacket......

apologizing for saying it, doesn't mean he doesn't really believe it......all he really did was publicly talk about the dirty little secrets we all know happens and the NFL knows happens but we just aren't supposed to talk about ....

I did have a chanty little thing with a beat in my heads but not any specific tune in mind... but if I did, it would be AWOL.

Let's just hope he at least shuts his mouth next time some issue involving personal responsibility comes up.

Not likely however.

or perhaps "Don't #### up in the first place."
Herm does that. Cris is the "I've been there" guy. You need to hit all angles.

This is pretty funny though. Does the designated fall guy get more stuff in exchange, or do you just pick the biggest moron?

Love that this was at the Rookie Symposium thing the NFL does to help them out in their transition to being professional.

NFL to Chirs Carter: "we've been taking some heat lately so we are gonna bash you about this video. Nothing personal, we just need a fall guy. I am sure you understand."

He has christ now, so he's all set.

A person in the media spot light who has a lot of influence over young people is caught saying that its not only OK but smart to cultivate a friend and use them to take blame for any negative actions for you just in case you decide to act like a fool or engage in criminal activities.

If we saw rich powerful people in this world who hold enormous influence consistently prosecuted if they engage in criminal activities it would be easy to shrug this off but they don't and innocent people do time so I hope CC is taken to task for his remarks.

watched the video again because I just really couldn't believe it the first time.....this might be one of the dumbest things I have ever seen....in what world did he think this would actually fly....?

and in what world does somebody do this and then get asked to come back and speak again......?

in what world does the guy get reprimanded immediately following said stupidity, but then said stupidity still gets posted on the internet......somebody has to lose their job for that part of the video not being edited before posting right?

how this didn't come out sooner and how no other rookie said something about it is crazy to me.....Teddy, anyone, Buehler, Buehler, Buehler.......?

oh wait....world of the NFL....
