*** Dan Lambskins Top 25 Most Overrated Movies *** A.K.A MoP Hates Hollywood (2 Viewers)

16 - Edge of Tomorrow

Sci-fi with Tom Cruise and Emily Blount and they keep dying and repeating the day during an alien invasion or something

didn’t care for it at all but I see this one pop up on underrated movie lists a lot when in fact it’s the opposite
I didn't think this movie was all that popular...

1 - The Shawshank Redemption

That’s right. Flame away if you will. Now don’t get me wrong, this is actually a pretty decent movie, unlike most of the others in this list. If I did a top 500 list I’d expect it to slot in somewhere in the bottom half

That said this movie is constantly at or near the top of Best Movie Ever lists and is nowhere close to belonging there

3 - Mad Max - Fury Road

it’s just driving back and forth in the desert for like 2 hours. With a rock band for some reason. And people love this movie
Sorry but I just don’t get it
Let me explain for those in shock right now

-This movie was part concert, part nostalgia and part movie. I'll explain
10 years ago when it was released, try and think about the movie scene vs now where we just stream on Apple, nobody is going to theaters any more, might not be any in another 20 years
Well when this came out the fans were encouraged to pay the extra and see it on IMAX, see it on a BIG BIG screen with the best sound and buckle up. Romero designed and shot the film to be played BIG...not on an iPhone without earbuds, if you didn't see it on a really big ****ing screen when it came out and if you don't currently own an 85+ inch TV screen and the best speakers and sound you can afford then its gonna suck I guess or not have the impact on the audience as it was originally designed

As you were

May you slide down a ten foot razor blade into a pool of alcohol.

17 - Everything Everywhere All At Once

Counting the trend of terrible movies to win an Oscar . No idea how this got picked over Banshees.
Wow. I loved Everything, and absolutely hated Banshees. I kept waiting for something, anything, to happen in Banshees.
A donkey choked on someone’s fingers what more do you want???
Yeah, not to get too into spoilers but a lot happened. Buildings burned down, people were assaulted, people died.
That is true, although there wasn't nearly enough carnage for me :) I guess for me I had heard so many great things about it, and it just didn't meet the expectations I had of the film. I wasn't expecting non-stop action, in fact I expected some deeply personal interaction between the characters that would resonate with me. No spoilers, but it didn't happen for me. Again hopefully not treading into spoilers, I think that might have been what the director was going for, but it was just a complete miss for me.

Oh go to Hell

It's almost mentioned in the same breath as The Godfather for most perfect film of all time

Thanks for your effort here. By and large some very good, debatable issues.

Films you got right:
Bridesmaids
Wedding Crashers
Birdman
Contact
Training Day
Blair Witch

Films you got wrong:
Everything Everywhere All At Once. Even in you liked Banshees better, this is an excellent movie.
Get Out. Guessing you're not the audience that appreciates the everyday horror embedded in this film.
Tombstone. I'd argue that it is potentially overrated and underrated all at once. It isn't given credit for some of the depth it has.
Shawshank. Yes. It is rated incredibly high.

The worst thing ever written by any human, monkey with a typewriter or AI: That Caddyshack II was superior to Caddyshack. Regardless of your feelings about Caddyshack, Caddyshack II was not superior to my last bowel movement.

I'm now convinced this was just a pre Memorial Day Holiday weekend trolling effort. You are in good shape for whichever poor soul you plan to unleash your trolling fury :D

I do appreciate how quickly you got through the list!

It was acually kind of a box offie disappointment too. I know I missed it at the theater which was a big mistkae. It all in told made $380 million worldwide - that was pretty good but for such a highly regarded franchise action movie with a $150 million budget, it was surprisingly not that big. Right now Sinners which is totally original and rated R is close to passing that. Thunderbolts is on track to pass it and that just came out like 3 weeks ago. Minecraft came out 6 weeks ago and has 3xed Mad Max already. The new Final Destination had a bigger opening weekend than Mad Max Fury Road did. Now we do have some inflation to calculate in there but point stands that hits now in their first 4 weeks before they even hit VOD are doing betetr than Fury Road did.

When I was thinking of the movies that might appear, here are some I came up with. Not saying these are bad, but are just rated way way higher by others than I view them:

Bridesmaids - was the first comedy I thought of and you included it. Thought it was pretty good but people raved.
Napolean Dynamite - Don't shoot me, I liked it. Thought it was pretty good. But everyone told me I had to watch it and I would die laughing. I survived, then they told me I had to watch it multiple times to get the full effect. No thank you.
Avatar - Groundbreaking visually. The story and acting was as vanilla as can be.
Joker - People raved but I didn't like it at all
Interstellar - I love Christopher Nolan. Some could argue the Dark Knight is overrated because of how it is treated by people even outside of comic fandom, but I think it is properly rated as great. Tenet is properly rated as crap by most people so not overrated. For me, Nolan crossed over too far into his "let me come up with a gimmick and build around it" phase here. I liked the movie, but not to the ground breaking praise a lot of people put on it.
The Wolf of Wall Street - Again it was pretty good, but I get it. Greedy people with potty mouths do bad things. I know a lot of people who really love it but I thought it was ok. The best thing about it hands down was introducing Margot Robbie (not overrated).

Great list.
Napoleon Dynamite was just ok.
Avatar is Pocahontas with visual effects
Joker is straight garbage. This might be the only movie Caddyshack 2 is better than
Interstellar was good, but the twist wasn't amazing to me
Never saw TWOWS

You ever try putting with a wedgie?

Agree with those that mentioned The English Patient. How that film is a 7.4 on IMDB, not to mention all of the critical rave reviews I have no idea. And I don't even mind slowly paced movies, but a 150+ minute run time for that film is unbelievable.

In perhaps the worst thread ever, at least you nailed the landing. 🤝

You forgot Lincoln, The Fablemans, anything else Spielberg has done in the last 20 years and everything by Wes Anderson.

Top 10 wasn't too bad actually.
get out and black panther for sure. A quiet place is good but its so tense so its not something I really enjoyed that much and had no interest in seeing the others but Fury Road and Tropic Thunder are big nopes. Animal House too. Move Everything Everywhere All At Once and Bridemaids up and throw in Anora and Parasite and it woulda been better.

Blair Witch is understandable. Someone mentioned Napoleon Dynamite and that's spot on. I thought Gone with the Wind was boring. That other Jordan Peele horror movie, US. I think I'd put A Clockwork Orange on there. Frozen.

We agree way more on the top 10 than the first 15. Some of my favorites are in there like Arrival and Contact.

Top 10 I can get on board with all but #1. You replace that with a Goodfellas and I am with you. Tropic Thunder I like a lot, but it suffers from too much Stiller in the back 1/2. Black Panther I thought was good, but nothing I'd fight you over either. I tried watching a couple Marvel movies recently and couldn't get through much. Don't tell trip, but I'd rather watch probably 2 dozen animated movies over any of the Marvel movies, comic book movies, or most action in general.

Arrival was such an amazing original take on the genre. Did it need green laser beams or something?

Come to think of it, there were no laser beams in Contact either. I think Lambskin needs those laser to be entertained. ;)

20 - Wedding Crashers

Similar to Bridesmaids, just a big meh from me

20 years later I can barely think of 1 memorable scene from this, yet it was constantly being touted as one of the funniest movies ever
Really? Nothing?

I don't think anyone actually rates the Avatar story that high.

Visually, they are spectacular movies. There are no other movies like it. It's why I think they are must sees in the theater. But the stories are quite dumb. And weak.

It is funny because I had recently been thinking about- what movies that other people love that I don’t get.

MASH
Blazing Saddles
Clerks/Mallrats
Moulin Rouge
Inherent Vice
The Master
Breakfast Club
Big Trouble in Little China/Escape from NY
Fight Club
Reservoir Dogs
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Breakfast at Tiffanys
Gigi
Anything by Antonioni

19 - The Talented Mr Ripley

This one might be a stretch because it’s more for Matt Damon’s acting performance, but IIRC that was the main draw of the film? He was supposed to be able to sound like other people but in the movie when he was trying to imitate them he never did

Been awhile since I’ve seen this one but i remember me and my good buddy always trashing it
Lots of flaws in that movie. Hoffman was amazing in it as always, despite the minor supporting role.

Now this is a list I would subscribe to. Well done.
