*** Dan Lambskins Top 25 Most Overrated Movies *** (11 Viewers)

Dan Lambskin

Footballguy
Had this one brewing for while but needed go wrap up the Top 100 Vocalists

criteria is largely arbitrary, but in general this has to be a movie that either
- has some sort of critical acclaim (praise, awards, etc)
- cult following
- generally well liked

Some of these movies I actually like, some
I don’t, but in general it has to be a “good movie”…so no Battlefield Earth or Pearl Harbor or something like that

I also have to have seen the movie, so Forrest Gump is out

Warning - this will be controversial
Feelings will be hurt
Friendships may be lost

But if you search deep down in your feelings you’ll realize i am 100% right on all of these movies

Also I kept this at 25, I felt like trying to get to 50+ would just lead to me being disingenuous

But to give a little flavor here are some of the ones that didn’t make the final cut

Rudy - while this movie definitely sucks, I just don’t think it’s good enough to be included. Outside of @timschochet snd Notre Dame fans I’m not sure anyone else actually likes it

Boyhood - I get that it was an ambitious project, but again just not sure this one is rated highly enough to include. Complete bore though

Super Troopers - I don’t think I’ve actually seen it, I’ve just heard my friends quote it so often I feel like I have. Ineligible

I Love You, Man - has 2 strikes right off the bat (Jason Segel and Rush). I just don’t think this is good enough to be included

Pineapple Express - only made it through about 30 minutes before I turned it off so ineligible. Maybe I need to get baked and try again but I have a pretty low tolerance for Seth Rogan these days

12 Years A Slave - one of the worst best picture winners, certainly of the 21st century. I think I fell asleep for part of it

Superman - specifically the Christopher Reeves one, but I don’t think I’ve actually ever seen the entire movie. But you could include any incarnation, there has never been a good Superman movie.

Will get started on the top 25 a little later

What will the American Cheese of movies be?

Find a movie that's only liked in America but is still heavily divisive even here. The components of the movie should be really poorly done, acting, directing, filiming, everything. It should scream mediocre in every sense of the word. And it should be only about an hour in run length, so that it barely qualifies as a movie.

People who quote "Slappin da bass" from I love you man need to be imprisoned or something. Agree on that one. Nails on a chalkboard to me.

Disagree on Superman. Great movie.

25 - Halloween

I was born in 79, so growing up in the 80s / 90s I always found Halloween to be a distant 3rd to the Nightmare and Friday series

It’s not a bad movie by any means, but it wouldn’t rate that highly in any personal horror list of mine and others definitely like it way more than I do

I sort of agree, although it wouldn't make my top 25 overrated list. I like Black Christmas just as much, which was a major influence for Halloween.

I feel like the iconic soundtrack is what sets it apart.

Not sure there would be Jason or Freddy without Michael. Halloween has one big flaw but other than that, it’s one of the best horror movies ever made imo and is so far ahead of the original F13th which actually sucks. I mean come on we have John Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance.

24 - Ghostbusters

Is it comedy? Is it horror? Or just bad mix of both?

This is another one I don’t hate or anything, but just doesn’t grab me like a lot of other 80s movies do and people always seem to hold it in much higher regard than I do

I also strongly preferred The Real Ghostbusters cartoon over the movie as a kid

Hm. It was awesome at the time. Not sure it holds up over time.

22 - Barbie

Could have been a fun movie but takes itself way too seriously and too preachy for me. Nominated for way more awards than it deserved
You watched this? :shuked:
It’s funny and very well made plus has a great message for girls/young women even if that message got slammed by some on the right for being to left and some on the left for being too far right. To me that’s when you know it landed just right that it’s annoying people on both sides. But the set design, attention to detail and comedy is great. Very fun movie.

21 - Arrival

I like Denis Villeneuve

I like Sci-Fi

yet I found this very boring despite its getting high praise in the sci-fi community

Maybe I just didn’t get it or had the wrong expectations. One I might need to revisit

It absolutely holds up and now Dan is dead to me with this pick.

:lmao:

Well Tim doesn't like Ghostbusters that much either. I'm torn between Dan is doing this for attention and Dan is serious that these movies are overrated. I only agree with Bridesmaids and maybe Wedding Crashers.

First one I agree which. It’s fine but for Denis it’s disappointing.

19 - The Talented Mr Ripley

This one might be a stretch because it’s more for Matt Damon’s acting performance, but IIRC that was the main draw of the film? He was supposed to be able to sound like other people but in the movie when he was trying to imitate them he never did

Been awhile since I’ve seen this one but i remember me and my good buddy always trashing it

The TV Series was far superior.

I loved this back in the day, but I rewatched it last year for the first time in a long time, and it wasn't nearly as funny or good as I remembered. I think it's got a pretty strong case to be included on an overrated list.

doesn't someone have to like it to be overrated?
