Davis knee acting up again (1 Viewer)

I'll ask again, what is different about this news than when it was first reported over a week ago? There doesn't seem to be anything since the mini-camp swelling incident.
:goodposting: Is this new? Megan Manfull was the one that reported the issue at mini-camp and they said DD wouldn't be ready until training camp (I think that is what was said).

Is there a link to this new article or did she write the same story in Sporting News and it is behind the online article in the Houston Chronicle?
Your timelines are a little off. This is the third article of Dom missing time. First all mini camps. Then the first round of OTA's.

This article, is about the second round of OTA's, where Dom was definitely projected to attend. They tried him and his knee swelled up in walk throughs.

Still early, but not good.
???I thought the team was off between June 14-July 27th when training camp starts.
There's not date on this article which makes it confusing. It's older and from the 2nd round of OTA's early June.
so does this mean there's nothing new on the Davis front since the reports on the 14th? Very misleading if that's the case.

The OP said that it was Megan Manfull in the Sporting News and the last article that was linked to another article in the Houston Chronicle's web site. There was no link in this thread, i.e. no dated articel on a web site.

Since there haven't been any practices since the last article, I think, and training camp hasn't started, it seems to me that the Sporting News picked up the Chronicle's article and there hasn't been any real news.
:goodposting: This story is a non issue. It's regurgitating of old news that is made to seem relevant by omitting the dates.

It's got to be the offseason when so many people get hooked like this.... :fishy: Swim along little fishies.....The Shark shrugs this one off and heads for another thread....

I take news like this was a grain of salt. In determing my projections and rankings, I make a note of situations like this, but don't let it materially alter my thoughts on a player until we have a more concrete timeline as training camp gets underway.

We know the NFL is unforgiving, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Davis ends up missing a big chunk of the 2006 season. But I wouldn't be surprised if Tiki Barber, Larry Johnson or LaDainian Tomlinson missed significant portions of the 2006 season either. That's the nature of the game.

If, halfway through training camp, Davis is still unable to practice, I guarantee you he should (and will) see his ranking and ADP drop.

News: The Houston Chronicle reports Vernand Morency missed the Texans' recent OTAs due to a case of plantar fascitis. His absence could hurt his position on the team's depth chart.

Analysis: Antowain Smith and Wali Lundy have been impressive in workouts, so Mornecy could fall to third of even fourth. His value was as insurance for Domanick Davis, but that could be in doubt now.

Managemnet doesn't like Morency, he dances too much... If DD was healthy Mornecy would be gone...

Which "management"? Casserly? Capers? They're both gone. Where are you getting this information?

Kubiak.Houston Chronicle (last paragraph)

"He's more of a shifty-type runner, and that's not what we want him to do," Kubiak said of Morency. "We tell them they get one cut and then they have to get the ball downfield. He's being told a few different things than maybe he's been told in the past, but he's responded well and practiced well."
(edit to add) He doesn't say anything about Morency being gone if Davis was healthy; it has to do with the running style remark.

For any Texans homers, is Wells a bad guy off the field or something?

I would think they'd be making an offer to re-sign him at this stage. What am I missing?
Wells is a chump running back who is a poor poor poor man's Lorenzo White. A big back who tries to run like a finesse back but Lo White could pull it off at times while Wells doesn't run with good knee bend or keep his pads low, heck little Dom Davis moves a pile better than Wells does. Wells got his yardage because the Texans have decent run blocking....like I've always said that have helped Dom's fantasy stat lines. Nobody wants Wells because the teams all have game tape.

Chitown, I trust your Texan insight. How bad is Davis hurt, if any? How will end up as his backup? And, lastly, does Morency have a chance?

I think they are worried about his knee and I know they were looking to trade up for DeAngelo Williams if they could swing the right deal, so I think they were worried about Dom's knee then as well. I don't think even the Texans have a good feel how this will pan out. I know they are looking for a deal on a back though. imo they have been vocal with Morency because he has explosive cutting abilities and want him to 'get it' when it comes to one cut and boogie. Morency knows exactly what Kubiak wants after the OTA's and Kubiak is putting pressure on him. If Morency can keep is loose hips to the open field he can be something special, but he needs to forget about how he used to run and learn to trust the nature of a zone runner. If Dom isn't ready I think Morency can make it work if he isn't too hard headed. He has elite change of direction and acceleration but he isn't a top end speed dog.

Thank you. :goodposting: Insight like this is what makes this board special. What do you think the odds are that Dom really does have a problem that will affect his games played or performance? How worried should we be? I am beginning to think ... REAL WORRIED.
