DB vs WR info...game log/breakdown (1 Viewer)

Do you all have a site where they keep track of which DBs were covering WRs for the games or plays? I realize sometimes DBs will switch up in coverage but several corners you know are going to start and likely get torched a good percentage of the time. Seems like this info would be very valuable, if you have a link, site, source, that would be great.

Thanks

MOP, the best I've seen is Pro Football Focus. It's not as specific as individual WR vs. CB match-ups but it details defensive players statistics when thrown at: attempts, completions, yards, YAC, TD passes allowed, etc.

TY FF, had a feeling that would be choice #1. I would love to see a breakdown play by play on these DBs...fact is this is a complete passing league at this point and has been for a while, these are stats I am interested in most. I think DBs should have a stat following them that shows how many receptions, yds, and TD a DB gives up during a game, even the reserves I would like info on. Appreciate the post FF.

I agree Pro Football Focus is probably your best.

Tracking what every player did individually on every play in every game is an extremely time consuming and tedious thing to do. And without coach film that shows all-22, it would be especially tough to do since much of the time you can't see what the WR and DB do upfield other than where they are if the ball is thrown his way. A well covered receiver you probably never even get a chance to see what happened since the QB will throw elsewhere on the field.

Pro Football Focus does keep track of which defender was covering each receiver, but only on the plays where that receiver was targeted. If you're a paid subscriber, you can see that info by going to the individual game and then to the "Receiving" or "Coverage" tab.

For instance, in the Super Bowl Hakeem Nicks was targeted 13 times, with 10 receptions for 110 yards, 37 YAC, and a long of 19 (and no TD, INT, or dropped passes). 5 of those targets came with CB Devin McCourty in coverage, resulting in 5 receptions, 60 yards, 20 YAC, and a long of 19. 4 targets came against CB Antwaun Molden, with 4 receptions for 45 yards, 16 YAC, and a long of 18. 3 targets came against S Patrick Chung; all 3 fell incomplete. And 1 came against LB Rob Ninkovich, which was caught for 5 yards.

If you're trying to play matchups to decide which WR to start, you could also check out Football Outsiders, which keeps track of how well each defense has done against each type of receiver (WR1, WR2, other WR, TE, and RB). That includes the yards per game allowed, the passing attempts per game, and also the offensive efficiency on those plays (using their stat, DVOA).
