What do you folks think is more likely?

Sanders to NFL?

Sanders to a different top level college program?

Have to see how the rest of the season goes, and the next few, but if he gets the Buffaloes to a few bowl games and an NFL team throws a bag at him, I think he jumps at it.

I think that’s more likely than another college gig.

He's said several times he won't coach in the NFL and can't deal with many of today's players.
The reasons I heard was the amount of money they make, lack of worth ethic and commitment to their craft.
The money aspect was to discuss prior eras by comparison.
The dedication....show him a Derrick Henry video of his off-season workout and he'll surely change his mind.

I think he's setting everything up to someday do what he did in Colorado again in the NFL as a coach- clean house and get his players.

Let's see what happens when his boy is in the NFL and he isn't

No idea when you are such an elite recruiter you would want to neutralize it by going to the NFL so early in your coaching career. Plenty of big program schools will be emptying their piggy bank to get him after his son goes to the NFL.

Yes. With his ability to recruit, it's conceivable he gets on the Ohio State / Alabama / Georgia level for recruits. Meaning it would be like an NFL team getting 6 first round picks each draft. That's a gigantic advantage.

I think Deion's ego will lead him to the NFL and like Saban and many others he will fail a d end up back at college. He is a great recruiter because he is flashy, talks a good game and is an NFL legend. That kind of stuff will resonate with kids and even some parents. Players in the NFL will look right past him.

Plus coaches stealing all or most of the spot light doesn't work in the NFL.

He strikes me as staying at the college level. Maybe it'll change after his son moves to the NFL (likely a first rounder) but he strikes me as very much liking the helping mold young men angle.
I think this is right. I also don’t think the men in the NFL would be as receptive to his shtick.

Agreed. And I can totally understand that. I think I'd likely be that way myself if I were a coach.

This is where I fall. If Deion really builds on his success at Colorado and an NFL team throws a lot of money at him, I think his ego may make him believe that he can be different from Saban and others who failed at the NFL level.

if he even becomes what it looks like he could, he stays in college, becomes and stays the hightest paid coach in sports, and stays on that path.

can't see him in the nfl. i dont think his shtick would even work w the players there (vets especially)

I get that the NFL has appeal, but for guys who benefit big time by recruiting, many are better off staying in college. The money isn’t even a factor as if he succeeds in Colorado and moves to a big program, his next contract will be in line with a top 5 NFL coach.

Ive been begging for Jerruh to hiring him since Jason Garrett was fired.

LOL at people saying Deion Sanders wont be able to get NFL players to follow him.
I agree all players will love him, but his recruiting will be limited but by the salary cap.
He won't be able to sign Chase and Jefferson as free agents. Can't afford it.

In college, he can sign as many Travis Hunters as he can get his hands on, however.

Someone asked if we know he's a good coach. We don't. But I think we know he's a good recruiter.

If he does well in CO, and takes over one of the big Florida schools, that's massive. Florida or Miami? Deion at the U? 😯

He's got some problem with FSU, so I'm thinking Miami in two years

He will be limited by the cap but some players will want to play for him. That doesn’t mean he gets all the FAs, it’s just a feather in the cap.

There are many ways to run an organization. While I would personally run the team I root for differently, given the state of the Dallas Cowboys, he’s a good fit.

They need a head coach who is a master motivator over all else.

This is very close to what I was going to post.

Stays in college, elite recruiter, and also doesn’t have to deal with NFL ownership.

Roy Kidd was pretty good at Eastern Kentucky too.
Respect your experienced skepticism... and I'm not saying Deion is Saban or anything. Not even ready to say he is automatic hire for a blue blood program. Let's see how the rest of the season goes.

But this ISN'T Jeff Saturday either. Saturday is a nice guy, but that hire was a complete joke. And everyone except Irsay knew it at the time. Deion already has a track record (albeit not a long one). He has won and received commitments from 5-star recruits at a HBC school. Completely unheard of.

Again, I'm not on the train that NFL teams or blue blood college programs should snap him up while they can... yet. But the Saturday comparison isn't fair. And maybe not the Kidd comp either... but time will tell. I'd say he looks like he knows what the hell he is doing right now.

How do we know he's a good coach after one game? Jeff Saturday was 1-0 after one game.

I think he's proven he's a good coach. He showed that at Jackson State.

The fact he was able to take a team with 75% new players (even if many were his old ones) and put a Colorado team that looked efficient and ready and organized was pretty amazing. You had guys like Billy Napier sending players out with the same number. While Colorado looked like a well coached team.

He may not be able to live up to the hype or swagger. But I think the "is he a good coach?" question has been answered.

I think the question is can he go from good to great? That takes a good bit more success.

It was the attention to detail that surprised me the most. Early in the game, TCU had 12 men on the field and Sanders called for a snap once he recognized it. Caught 'em and got 5 free yards. A little later, they punted around midfield and their punter parked one that went out at the 1 yard line. That's good, smart football and I was impressed.

I split season tickets with a buddy of mine and do a draft for the games. We are both going to go the USC game together, so we drafted the rest of the games. My first choice was Colorado and he thought I was nuts. There have been games against CU where the score was so lopsided I left at halftime. Not this year! I have 5th row seats to the Deion show and I cannot wait. I'm going to keep a set of eyes on him all game long.

You are saying the same thing as me. Some players will want to play for him, and some he won't be able to afford.

In college, that problem isn't as big

Sure but who wants to recruit every year?

Deion said he wanted to coach a NFL team years ago before any of this started and IIRC, he said he was qualified or that he expected to do be able to do it at that time.

should we also expect the Duke HC to go to the NFL after beating down Clemson?
Sanders' story is nice and all, but let's see how things shake out the remainder of the season. sometimes people are too quick with the anointing oils. bigger colleges can get bigger coaches than Sanders. you wouldn't replace harbaugh at michigan with Sanders. won't happen.

Might have more to do with a salary cap in the NFL than a desire to play for him.

I was referring to following him as a leader/coach.
Ah. Ok well, that’s probably correct, though I’m sure there will be some who see his public personality as a turn off. That “swagger” doesn’t always play in the pros like it does in college.

But he’s sure looking like a leader as a coach in Colorado.

Is the Duke coach a NFL Hall of Famer, two-way player, two sports player, whose name is often mentioned, when discussing the greatest athletes of all time?

I don't think some of you grasp just how awful Colorado was last year. I might not be way off suggesting the 2022 Buffaloes were the worst major college football team in the modern era. And they've BEEN bad, for a long time.

What we saw on Saturday in Fort Worth was remarkable. They were 21 point underdogs. This wasn't a game that TCU just gave away the way Clemson did last night with Duke. Deion's team beat TCU. Seems like the only people who believed it would be possible were the coach and his players.

I don't know where Sanders goes next. Maybe he follows his son to the NFL? At this point I'd believe anything. Runs for president? Sure why not?

I think he wants to be Saban - the king of college football, I mean, not the hard-***, always unhappy even when you win by 30 side of Saban. He's got the personality that meshes well with college kids. He's a natural recruiter, and he enjoys that part of it. And between NIL, transfer portal, and having 70+ however many scholarships are allowed at his disposal, he can amass all the talent he wants at the college level.

Jumping into the NFL with a draft and a salary cap would be handcuffing himself.

Ha! Oregon sent season ticket holders an email that tickets for Colorado are not available. Sold Out! Geeeee, ya think?

I'm giddy over this game and I'm a 50 year old man. This is silly and yet...can't wait.

I think he stays in college. His ability to attract talent is his gift. All he has to do is be the recruiter/ hype man and make sure he's got the right X's O's guys in place. It doesn't work like that in the NFL.

Can you imagine being the next coach to go into a recruit's home and pitch the family after Deion left? I'd just quit.

Stays at Colorado for 2-3 more years.
How cool would it be if he just stayed there? Built the program into a powerhouse like Saban. These college coaches leaving at the drop of a hat is so tired.

I definitely do not believe Deion will stick around long term, but that's Okay. CU was a dying program before he came along. He has already injected life back into the program.

If he puts CU back on the map, making it a destination for both players and coaches, then I'm good.

Yea he's got the gift of gab for sure.......I'm honestly already burned out on prime. He's a bit much, imo......but if he gets results no one will mind.....if he starts losing, his act will grow old.

I’m rooting for him.

Deon has given me so many good football memories. From his Seminole days to returning punts for Falcons. I cant with a clear conscious say anything bad.

Sanders has always stuck me as a person who has style without substance.

There is no question he was great in coverage and had amazing ball skills for a defensive player. I think he got some reps at WR at some point? He was very good as a kick returner as well. However he was a reluctant tackler. I preferred Rod Woodson as a better all around player of the same era who never got the same accolades that Sanders did.

I haven't followed his college career as a coach at all but based on seeing him as a television personality for a long time he seems like the kind of person who players might like at first but get tired of quickly. Which all circles back to my first sentence here. That is my overall opinion of him.

If he's lucky he stays at Colorado for 2-3 more years. Hopefully for him the team will keep improving, as they improved this year over last year. Then he'll be able to get a better job based on performance rather than based on his "image" and media coverage highlighting only the good stuff about him.
