Denarius Moore - CIncinnatti Bengals (2 Viewers)

Per Roto"Jacoby Ford (hamstring) was held out of practice again on Thursday.Darrius Heyward-Bey (knee) is "going through the paces" at practice, a sign that he's not quite healthy just yet. Check back Friday to see if Denarius Moore looks like the No. 1 receiver again versus the Jets. With Ford out, Taiwan Jones is expected to return kickoffs this week. "
Per Steve Corkran: Receiver Darrius Hewyard-Bey (knee) is at practice and running routes. He said he felt good at practice Wednesday and is hopeful of playing Sunday.Wide Receiver Louis Murphy is not at practice once again. Murphy already has said he won’t play Sunday. Tight end Kevin Boss looked fine in practice, and he should make his Raiders debut Sunday. So if things stand for now, look for Moore and Bey to start, mixed in with a healthy debut of TE Kevin Boss. Expect Hagan and Schilens to be active as well. Again, it all depends on Ford being healthy.

Hagan should be starting over DHB but you know that won't happen.

Oh well, as long as Denarius starts I'll be happy. DMoe outside and Ford in the slot with Hagan as the possession WR is the Raiders' best WR formation. Too bad we haven't seen it yet.

Here is a nice article with some interesting background on Moore:

Raiders receiver Denarius Moore's quick development surprises NFL draft experts

By Jerry McDonald jmcdonald@bayareanewsgroup.com

Posted: 09/22/2011 02:40:11 PM PDT

One of the most respected talent evaluators in the business, NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock remembers his scouting report on Denarius Moore this way heading in to the 2011 draft:

"I got a quick tape or two on him and said, 'OK, he's got some vertical speed, some developmental ability, but it's going to take a little time,' '' Mayock said in a phone interview. "We all could be off on that."

Mayock wasn't the only person to underestimate the Raiders' rookie wide receiver out of Tennessee. Before Oakland took Moore in the fifth round, No. 148 overall, 18 wide receivers were taken.

"By that time there was some doubt. Maybe I wasn't going to get picked," Moore said. "I didn't want to put that in my head or let it come out of my mouth. So I just kept my faith, and that's when I got the phone call."

Moore got lots of highlight time following a 38-35 loss to Buffalo in which he caught five passes for 146 yards, had a leaping 50-yard touchdown catch against double coverage and nearly came down with what would have been a game-winning 56-yard touchdown pass from Jason Campbell.

Had Moore caught that pass -- it was intercepted by Da'Norris Searcy -- he would have been only the second Raiders receiver ever to break 200 yards receiving in a game, joining Art Powell (1963 and 1965).

As impressive as Moore was, it didn't come as a shock to anyone who saw him excel on a daily basis during training camp in Napa.

"I said it as soon as I saw him step on the field, that kid's the truth," fullback Marcel Reece said. "He can just flat-out play."

Campbell was sold the moment he saw Moore come down with a pass in the end zone with DeMarcus Van Dyke and Stevie Brown all over him, somehow getting both feet in bounds and avoiding the goal post at his back.

It took Hue Jackson a few practice sessions to realize the Raiders had something special.

"That's the way guys play when they're really good," Jackson said. "I coached some pretty good receivers in this league. I know what they play like and act like and how they perform."

Moore had an impressive high school pedigree in Tatum, Texas, helping lead his team to two Class 2-A state titles in addition to winning the 110-meter high hurdles in the state track meet.

Although Moore caught 47 passes for 981 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior, he may have gotten lost in the eyes of scouts on a Volunteers team that went from head coaches Phil Fullmer to Lane Kiffin to Derek Dooley in his sophomore through senior seasons and ran through quarterbacks and assistant coaches at an accelerated rate.

"I think when you throw it all into a blender and look at it, the fact that he had different coaches, coordinators and quarterbacks all fits in," Mayock said.

All the change, Moore believes, may have altered perception of him as a player.

"People may have thought, three different coaches, he's lost in the system, his attitude's probably bad," Moore said. "That's where you've got to get to know me and the type of player you're getting."

The Raiders did some homework in that regard, sending a background check to Andy Evans, Moore's coach at Tatum High School.

For all Moore did as a player, Evans thinks even more highly of him as a person.

"I've never once heard him say a negative word about anything," Evans said. "He's very driven. The first thing he does when he comes to visit is he goes to the field house and works out."

The playmaking skills now being exhibited on a national scale were on display locally at Tatum.

"I have a picture in my office of Denarius making a touchdown catch in the state title game on a fourth-and-18 play that defies the laws of physics," Evans said. "The longer the draft went when he didn't get picked, I said to myself, 'Someone's going to get a steal.'"

How do we feel about his matchup this week vs NYJ? Considering starting him at wr3... :banned:
The big question is whether he gets banished to Revis Island. I suspect he will, since he's the most dangerous WR Oakland has right now. I'm following Manish Mehta on Twitter (link) to see if Revis will be on Moore - he's a good source for that kind of Jets info - and if he is, I'll sit him for one more week. Otherwise, I'm starting him over Percy Harvin as my WR3. :scared:
Moore torched McKelvin in Buffalo but it wasn't as if McKelvin was beaten badly. In fact, Moore was well covered on several of his big catches. He simply beat the DB for the ball. This guy is the real deal. Revis or not, if Campbell doesn't botch the throw I think Moore can produce. His ball skills are phenomenal.

Regarding Revis, I think there's a good chance you would see Moore in the slot more than any other WR. If the Jets choose to put Revis on Moore, that might be the best news Moore owners could be looking for, moving forward.

:goodposting: Even though the Raiders did lose to Buffalo like you said they would ourmanflint, a guy like Moore will make it that much tougher to boldly proclaim the Raiders are a sure bet to lose. The offense, both rushing and passing is really clicking right now.

I'm ready to roll Moore out against Revis. :boxing:

Can you unpack this a bit? People in this thread who were worried that DHB would continue to get snaps were basically told that Al Davis would make sure that the best players would play, and you seem to be saying the opposite.

Per Roto:

Raiders TE Kevin Boss believes WR Denarius Moore might be the "best rookie player" he's ever seen.

"The plays he makes are pretty incredible," said Boss. "He's a really special player — we've found a very good wide receiver in Denarius Moore. ... I've been saying it since training camp, and he proved it again in that Buffalo game." The Raiders finally found a speedy receiver who doubles as a good football player.

I know. All those years he hung on to JaMarcus. Years and years, never allowing another QB to play......

Can I get a quick rundown on the track record of hiding studs behind expensive toys? As a lifetime Raiders fan, I am having a tough time coming up with a list.

This request applies to any other psychics out there that have the rundown on which players Al likes and doesn't like.

Marcus Allen down? It is all about Davis and how he is smarter than everyone else. See DHB & J Russell, but decades ago when Davis benched Allen truly revealed what is most important to him.

I grew up and became a sports fan following the Blanda & Lamonica years. Got ticked but still followed the Raiders when they moved to LA. But when Davis benched M Allen in the prime of his career for much of the season to prove he is the boss, I swore off being a follower of the Raiders until Davis did not run them. Will he ever move on? I have been waiting for a long time.

Slot would be sweet. I'm hoping that DHBust lines up opposite Revis. He will be a zero that way. Put Cromartie on Moore and Moore will take him to school. Moore owners  could use a big game here or at least a better game than any other WR to send DHBust to the bench for good. If Foord is healthy, it would probably be Revis on Ford, Cromartie on DHBust and Moore free to go nuts.

No way. The Jets would absolutely put Cromartie on Ford and let the two pure speed guys battle it out. There's no way that the Jets don't put either Cro or Revis on Moore. They're not stupid.

Injury plagued and now I have to decide between Moore or Benn as my WR3.

Moore would be an easy start, but the Jets are good. I don't fear Revis, but I do fear campbell not getting more then 2secs to throw.

Mayok explains how he and other experts whiffed on evaluting Moore

and in other news, Jacoby Ford did not practice and is likely out for Sunday.
As usual, I credit Bloom for opening my eyes to him, especially the bolded:
Denarius Moore, WR, OAK - Jacoby Ford might have more big plays, but Moore has the all-around game to become the top pass catcher on the Raiders. He may never be more than a WR3 for fantasy, but he is probably the most natural receiver on the Oakland roster.

Marcus Allen down? It is all about Davis and how he is smarter than everyone else.
No, Marcus Allen is not down, I remember that very well. That was a contract dispute, 20+ years ago, and the situations are not even remotely similar. Marcus was an established player, and a first round pick, that Al benched. So now the comparison is to the 5th round pick that has played two games? Yeah, nothing personal, but that's not even close.
See DHB & J Russell, but decades ago when Davis benched Allen truly revealed what is most important to him.
Yeah, I see them. Russell was cut faster than any 1st overall pick I can remember, but this is the evidence you hold up that reveals Davis' 'look how smart I am' attitude?? Can I get a quick explanation as to how these two ideas reconcile, because it doesn't make sense to me. My point stands. This entire idea that Moore won't get any playing time because of DHB is absurd, and based in nothing recent or factual that I can think of. If people are dusting off the Marcus Allen story, then my point is made for me. Hey, the Bears are really cheap, remember that time they wouldn't pay their tight end, Mike Ditka?!?

If you are really concerned about Moore getting stuck behind a lesser player, look into it. See if it actually could happen, or if you would just be regurgitating something you read in a thread, written by someone with less of a clue than you.

Moore is a 5th round pick, who got a lot of PT in his first game (Hagan, the leading preseason receiver, was inactive), and then blew up for 140+ yards in Week 2. Uhh, what's the problem here?

This is Al Davis' team. He gave the go-ahead to draft DHB. As well as Denarius Moore. That's the way it works. The common thinking seems to be that the good players were drafted when Al was taking a nap (Matt Shaugnessy, Lamar Houston, Jared Veldheer), then Al jumps out of his casket to draft DHB, Jacoby Ford (Ooops! He's good, let's put him in the other column!).

One more thought: If Al Davis was out to prove how much smarter he was than anyone else, wouldn't the breakout of a 5th round WR help that cause? Just wondering.

For some reason today I cannot seem to quote anyone in this thread....

Anyway, the difference with DHB and Moore is none of the "experts" ridiculed Davis for drafting Moore where he did. Davis is directly involved in all personnel decisions and until recently very involved during the game decisions. Read some of the books/diaries etc from coaches that left on good terms (Madden & Flores) or any of the coaches that left on not so good terms about the calls at half time of games and in a few cases calls during the game with a Davis lacky passing on the information. You can also read some of the stuff written by explayers about some of the crazy things that would happen due to Davis calling during halftimes/games. Davis has always had his fingers in the middle of everything and as soon as a coach starts to gain credit for turning the team around, boom they get let go or fired and then not paid.

As to the M Allen issue - it was about $$, so Al sat his butt on the bench for two years and had Nick Bell and the FB Steve Smith get more carries and a much lower Y/A rate. Davis grabs R Craig the first year and E Dickerson the second and gives them the majority of the carries and they performed well below Marcus both season. Anyone that watched those two seasons could not come away with the conclusion that Davis was hurting the team to prove a point to M Allen.

The one thing is that in some ways - Davis can stroke his ego by letting Moore succeed and that may be the only reason he gets the playing time Moore should get. Just remember around the Raiders it is all about Davis.

None of the above in any way refutes anything I said.

Anyone who thinks Al will bench Moore b/c he benched Marcus Allen is stretching the logic IMO. Al thought Allen was an arrogant, disrespectful, disloyal ingrate. I'm not suggesting any of that was accurate, but it's how Al felt and he benched him out of spite. Completely different situation without the personal drama here.

As long as the Raiders are scoring points, I think you'll see Hue Jax and Saunders making the WR call with some AD influence in the background.

The problem for Moore however, is not DHB. Hue changed DHB's role this offseason to be the short and intermediate route guy. Ford is the deep threat WR. And even though Moore is better in that role, Ford is the starter and the coach and the team love him. It's Ford who might send Moore to the bench rather than DHB, if anybody IMO. A couple of big plays on Revis island by Moore could change this all.

Campbell talks up Denarius

To add to my last point, it's nice to hear this from Campbell. Ford looks like he's out this weekend, and I'm pretty sure Campbell will chuck it up to Moore if the Jets leave him one on one deep against Revis. At least once if not a few times in this game. It will be a great test. If he scores a deep one on Revis this thread is going to explode.

So what's he going for in dynasty? I havent seen any deals with him.

I think this may be the last week you can get him reasonably cheap and am trying to buy low. Gauging value on some preseason and one game is tough. Could be a star or Frisman Jackson...

So what's he going for in dynasty? I havent seen any deals with him.
That's because those of us who have him aint selling. As a few people have said, you think his value is high now? What if he drops 100+ and a tuddy in Revis (rhymes with Jesus) lap?Besides, if he is even close to that good - why would people sell him in dynasty? He is the type of player that might be untradeable in dynasty - he is so valuable to the people that own him, his asking price is too high for others to justify.

As a guy who specifically drafted him in a late draft this year, I hope you're right, but I dont think he's going to school Revis this weekend, especially with Campbell dinged up.

I guess its a classic case of the dynasty owners overvaluing b/c they want to believe they have the next great thing, and the non-owners looking to hit a jackpot. I've watched all the NFL.com and YouTube stuff I can on this kid and still cant help but be a little scared off by all of the hype. Not only that, but there are a lot of WRs in Oak, and it seems to be a very fluid situation.

So, being realistic, given that this kid was a 5th round NFL pick, a 4th or later round pick in most dynasty drafts, and he's really only played in one game, what *would* it take for you to sell him? In the one league I own him, I wouldnt, simply b/c that team is in desperate need of WRs, but if he was depth for me, I honestly dont know how I'd value him...

I own him in 13 dynasty leagues and I'm not shopping him. I see greatness in this kid, and unless I am blown away with an offer, he's a keeper for sure.

Jacoby Ford still highly ranked. I think the longer Ford's out, more likely Moore takes over Ford's appeal in Fantasy. Ford was brought up in the "WR by Committee" articles, but now I'm feeling that Moore is the guy to have and will benefit from the matchups that originally were planned for Ford.

This is exactly what I was getting at.I think the community might be falling a little too hard for Moore.

14 leagues isn't that hard really. I think once you get used to playing in 3 or more, its all the same.Yes, I have a job. A couple in fact. I am the commish of 14 leagues, some are almost 10 years old, others fairly new. I am happily married so I guess you could say a really nice chick digs me. ;) Oh, and as far as fun, I did stop trying to keep track of my players vs my opponents. I used to do that, and it drove me CRAZY. Now i just enjoy the games and then look at scores come Sunday night.

I'm glad everyone has jumped on the bandwagon personally. I felt pretty alone a month or two ago.

I think the Marcus Allen ordeal is applicable because it would suggest that Al Davis is capable of making a football decision based on personal reasons. Maybe Heyward-Bey's success represents some sort of personal vindication for Davis. To my knowledge, there's not much suggesting it does, but I don't think Allen's case is irrelevant in weighing the possibilities.

You're in 13+ dynasty leagues?
14 ;)
I've never imagined someone being in this many leagues, and none of them redraft either, I would figure after 4 or 5 that would be enough, I personally don't like doing more than two each year, but to each his own...I guess if you win money in 50% of them at least they can pay for the entry in the others you don't win money...good luck.As far as D.Moore, I like what I see with him going to get the ball over defenders, but...I wouldn't trust Campbell to be consistent in getting him the ball on a cosistent basis. It's like C.Henne and B.Marshall, Henne has already cost Marshall points because he can't put the ball in the right spot in tight coverage in the red zone for Marshall to go get it. If I had a spare roster spot I would roster him (Moore), but I wouldn't invest heavily in him with big WW dollars like some people are, plus it IS the Raiders with Al Davis still calling the shots...

I am leaving Moore on the bench this week. It was a tough decision but I have AJ Green and Lloyd in front of him. Moore should get a decent amount of targets. He is the best WR on the Raider team. However,I am not a fan of the match up with the Jets D in general. Revis will cover Moore. Jets will apply pressure to Campbell.

Love Moore as much as the rest of you but lets rememeber his QB isnt a great QB. probally the only real reason why I think Moore cant put up great numbers. He is a talent but becasue of the QB will be inconsistent . Same reason why sydney rice might not put up good numbers in SEA , travaris jackson. Still Moore is a must start after this week just due to his talent. Would be good to have him with a better QB.

Also think folks are forgetting Ford. Sure he is injured but he is the #1 on this team and right now a better WR since he has been in the league for a year already and shown he can be really good. People forget he was Moore last year. these same threads were there after he blew up and showed some amazing catches in traffic last year . I see Ford is gettin dropped (he went from 60 % to 40% owned in CBS) . If he is dropped in any league I am in I wouold grab him in a second. I think once they get a good QB this is going to be a major passing team with Ford and Moore as the starters.

Think Moore is a special talent but I think for this year the top OAK WR will be Ford if he gets back soon.

I just hope they dont go to pryor after week 5 nsidering Al Davis and his wacky moves. That would possibly kill all WR on this team. I got a feeling he will not be Cam Newton.

Should I start him or Lance Moore? Jacoby Ford is out, but that Jets defense scarries me, and I think that the Texans-Saints game is gonna be a shootout?

Go with Lance Moore. Three words... Revis Island. I know that's 2, but still.:edit to add "Go With"

Personally, I think the suggestion that he'll be top 30 is not "falling too hard" That means he'll be a high end WR3 in most leagues.I had a dream last night. He catches five passed for 114 yards, including a 26-yard score, with Revis on him for most of the game.

Though I am a middle-aged castoff from Corporate Island, I have chosen Denarius Moore as my role model in life, and I know that this choice will turn things around quickly. Just this morning, I was trying to decide between eggs and cereal for breakfast. I asked myself "What would Denarius Moore do?" Naturally, I went with the eggs, two of them, over easy.

Everything is going to be just fine.

Not trying to pick on you, but just a few points:Jason Campbell >>>> Tavaris Jackson - yes Campbell may not be a stud QB - but he has shown to be servicable. No one is forgetting about Ford - but he IS injured, and a speed WR with a bad hammy is a bad combination. Secondly, talent wise Moore > Ford - many people (including those who cover the Raiders on a regular basis) have said as much. Everything Ford does, Moore does better. Moore is just as fast, has great hands and battles for the ball in traffic at least as well as Ford does and Moore is 3" taller. Third, I disagree that Ford was Moore last year. Yes he had some hype - but his first 2 games he put up 4 catches for 37 yards. His break out (and only 1 of his 2 - 100+ yard games out of 9) was against KC - not against a good Bills passing defense. Ford was inconsistant at best - of his 9 games he had 7 that he caught 3 passes or less and all 7 went for under 50 yards. Certainly we cant annoint Moore the best WR on the team (although some who cover the Raiders have) or the #1WR for Oakland after just 1 game - but it appears clear that he has the talent to be an excellent NFL WR.Ford will likely be a starter upon his return - but that doesn't mean he will automatically be 100% healthy, nor does it mean he will automatically get the lion's share of looks - especially if Moore continue to prove himself to be a play maker. Yes, I would grab Ford if he were cut in most leagues - but not because I think he will necessarily be better than Moore when he gets back on the field. Ford had 25 receptions in 9 game last year - that's it. That's less than 3 per game. Ford is hardly an entrenched veteran WR1. IMHO, we are looking at 1A and 1B - and Ford is the B...when his hamstring heals.

Exceptionally :goodposting: .We don't yet know how good Denarius Moore is. Or Ford really, come to think of it. But there is no undisputed #1 on this team, and has not been for years.

Those of you who don't start him this week simply because of the Jets will regret it.Why do you pickup a guy who had a huge week, only to believe the trend won't continue?

I had a dream last night. He catches five passed for 114 yards, including a 26-yard score, with Revis on him for most of the game.
This is definitely within the realm of possibility.
