Ford's Game Log For 2010First off, Ford was playing WR in week 7 (when he had 2 receptions for 15 yards) - I'll give you a mulligan for week 4 when he recorded a an 8 yard rush (which didn't go for a TD). Secondly he started in week 8 - and posted another 2 reception game for 22 yards. Then he blew up in week 9...against KC. Thirdly, you mentioned "these 30-50 yard reverses for TD's like Moore" - except that Ford had only 2 rushing TDs - and one was 13 yards. Ford started 9 games in 2010 - and averaged about 50 yards receiving over that span and had 2 receiving TDs. In fact in 7 of those 9 starts, Ford had under 50 yards receiving and 3 or less receptions. Oh and btw, I'm 5' 8" - my brothers are both 5' 11" - no one considers us "about the same size."

Is there a lot of hype surrounding Moore? Yep. Was there a lot of hype around Kendricks, Ingram, and now T. Smith and probably even Victor Cruz? Sure. But there was also a lot of hype surrounding Fitz, Calvin, Randy Moss, AJ, etc. Sometimes where this is smoke, there actually IS fire.

While your point is fair, your facts are little off. Jacoby Ford was playing WR on the Raiders well before his blowup in the KC game last year. He practiced as a WR during training camp from the get go and started getting in-game targets as early as Week 6. One of the reasons he didn't get in at WR earlier was because he had somewhat of a reputation for having suspect hands. In any event, Ford finished the last five games of last year with only nine receptions. He is electric, no doubt, but I've never been convinced he could be a #1. There is a world of difference between 5'8 and 6'0 for a WR. Four inches is a giant size difference when you are talking about going up for the ball.

All the guys you mention as having hype were highly productive, highly touted, highly drafted "can't miss" prospects. Of course they had hype. It doesn't translate well to Moore's situation, who I do think could be the real deal.

The problem is so many FF players want to make the call on the diamond in the rough, so the speculation when an unheralded player starts to have opportunity goes way over the top.

That said, NFL front offices sometimes miss guys, and from what little I've seen, Moore may be one of them. Body control, hands, and a certain "MINE" mentality when the ball is in the air are skills that you don't generally teach. He has the look of a productive NFL WR. I bought in the draft, I don't expect he's a world-beater, but he's looking better than a lot of guys drafted ahead of him, and he is looking like he'll get some opportunities to produce. I'll take that from a back of the draft / WW guy any time.

No one is calling him the best ever - some are simply suggesting that he is better than Ford, which would make him the #1 WR on the Raiders - which gives him some decent fantasy value. Value which likely exceeds where he was drafted (moreso if he was a WW acquisition). And it's no more "reasonable" to put words in other people's mouths than argue against a grossly misrepresented and exaggerated point that no one ever made.

And for those accusing Moore owners of touting him over Ford, it was the beat writers for the Raiders that noted back in the preseason that Moore was the "most talented WR on the team". Many other Raider coaches have hinted at as much (although, obviously can't some right out and say it) - look through this thread for their quotes.

Ford, in his breakout games last year, made some ridiculous down-field plucking circus-catches look routine. He embarrassed Flowers, as well.

Wow how fast people forget . Ford made some incredible catches over his defenders head who was alot taller then he is. Again Moore and Ford are exactly alike except the 4 inches. Both are very good WR's. People realize I hope that Ford is the same size as Deshaun Jackson and as fast .

In general, I think Moore is going to be the example where you go with the talent, and not the situation. Because situations change. The Raiders situation might not be as bad as people were thinking. This team scores points. Campbell has been a calm game manager since the preseason. He looks light years better. He is not a good deep passer, but he can get it to Denarius on the move, and with that running game, he will get some clean deep looks. Man, wait till Ford is healthy.

And eventhough the situation was not ideal, he did have Opportunity because there was no established star receiver. He looks the real deal. I still think he will have up and down games this year, but long term, he looks like a star to me.

You aren't seeing the master plan. DHB is an excellent downfield blocker, and they just added Kevin Boss who threw a key block that sprung McFadden on that 70 yard TD run. They are still a team that wants to dominate running the ball. They had 10 first down conversions on the Jets on 2nd down. That tells you that they ran it down the Jets throats at will. It softens the defense, and sets up Moore to come in and burn the defense up top. Who cares if Moore is the snap 1 starter? If he gets 8-10 targets anyway, would you still be pleased? Moore stats come in the flow and gameplan of WINNING football games. Take a break from your fantasy football world and realize there is a master plan. The coaches don't care a whit about your fantasy teams. But when the game plan is executed correctly, the Raiders set up personnel mismatches all over the field. Moore will definitely get his.

You're entitled to your opinion but I disagree. If all of Moore's big plays were wide open catches steaking down the field or busted plays, where any track star Al Davis covets could make you might be right. But in the Buffalo game he showed leaping ability and ball skills no ordinary WR in my opinion can make against a solid, experienced CB in McKelvin. Give the kid time, he'll be more than a month or one year wonder, he has too much talent and raw ability. He still is a rookie and will probably have his share of down games but that will be because of the offensive scheme and opportunities, it won't be for lack of ability or effort.

Good post.Hue Jax doesn't give two ***** about our fantasy teams. But he wants the Raiders to win and Denarius is clearly a part of that plan going forward. Most weeks he will be a major part of the formula, some weeks he will be schemed out as he puts more on tape. Every week he's a prime candidate for a deep jump pass or three. I don't see too many more rookie doughnuts unless double and triple teams emerge. Injury is always a risk, but it is for all these players. Less so for those like Moore, who have a natural instinct for dodging hits. More so for those like Moore, who are skinny. Though there are plenty of examples of skinny playmaker WRs. And even though Moore looks thin, he seems like he has a frame that will bulk up as he ages. And he plays strong. Plus his arms look disproportionately long to me, which is clearly an advantage if true.

Hating on the Raiders because of Al Davis reminds me of all the people who talked trash about the Lions this year because they didn't pay attention to the LAST year, when they finished strong winning 4 straight. Hue Jackson is a damn good coach, with some fantastic schemes who is going to take advantage of all the speed Davis has drafted for him. Most fantasy owners have Moore plugged in as a WR3 or flex play. I think he is awesome in that role, especially if you have another high upside player to rotate with him. He can score points as a receiver, on rushes and as a punt returner. In a return yardage league he is a borderline WR2, IMO.

After this year, who knows? In dynasty he's a great hold as I don't think his value will drop at all this year. If at the end of the year, you are a believer, keep him...if not, sell him because he is in position to produce some more good games this year, starting with next week vs. the Pats.

Anyone who saw the OAK-NYJ game see how he looked if/when he was guarded by Revis?I know his receiving stats weren't eye-popping, but 2 PI calls are really nice, something that Moss and TO and Nicks draw often. Were any of those vs. Revis?

Revis was on DHB all game, from what I saw. Cro was on Moore, and he drew 4 PI flags. Bad day all around for Cro.

Why? I thought Rex Ryan was a defensive genius. Why stick your best cover corner on a guy who can't even catch the ball.

You are correct. The funny thing is, the one he ran in week 2 WAS a double reverse.

I'm starting him this week over Vernon Davis or Pettigrew.

I'm sold with a pitcher of the kool-aid in my stomach. Moore is a stud and an every game fantasy starter. In my PPR league he's scored 36 and 20 points in the past two games and this week he gets an atrocious Pats D in the Black Hole. The talent is there. His QB and Coach trust him. I expect at least 20 points again this week, probably a lot more.
