Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (3 Viewers)

The National - Don't Swallow the Cap - Thought it was some long lost 80s song until Berninger started singing.  He sounds more energetic then than now but weren't we all.

Faith No More - Caffeine - this is cool.  Non linear song structure.  Liked the quiet parts better than the screamy ones

Bowie - Sufragette City - Rules.  Why can't they make all guitars sound like this?

Slint - Good Morning Captain - Mix needed a talking song. Sounds late 90s with that awful snare sound I hate more than the Eagles.  It's a 7 minute song, he can't talk all the way through it can he?  I'm expecting guitars and there they are.  Not a solo just chords and now comes the quiet part. Drums are back and so is the talking guy.  I should have paid more attention to the first part of the story.

Ooooof, we definitely should have a separate jazz/classical mix.  Just had a song from one of the best records of all time (Kind of Blue) come up after a song from Guster and before one from The Band, and it was jarring.  Not fair to Miles.

Finished a book last night.  Choosing my next one is a bigger commitment than throwing another album into the shipping container.

I recommend reading Straight Life : The Story of Art Pepper.  You like jazz, and this guys story is worth the reading.

You can read his thoughts in the PF on that. He is our friend in here, and I don't want judgement placed on him from me saying the title of the thread that i'm sure got him suspended.
He's antagonistic for sure. I don't know what to think. I don't think he's nearly as extreme in his thoughts as his various threads may lead you to believe but I do think he loves sparking uncomfortable conversations and does it with zero subtlety. I don't believe for a second he would vote for Trump as an example. But he'd probably be first in line to vote for Doink the Clown or someone and make a big spectacle and debate about why he was doing so.

Jerry Izenberg's book about heavyweight boxers.  He has a great old fashioned sportswriter voice and knew everybody from Liston to Holyfield.
The first sports book I ever bought with my own money was one of his. I think it was called Championship! It was a chronological look at every NFL championship game from inception to then-current (which I think was the 1972 Dolphins). I loved that book.

UNTIL YOU CAME ALONG - GOLDEN SMOG - I think is maybe the most perfect love song for my relationship and also one of the best songs ever. I love this song so much and first heard it through a FFA draft. One of those songs that makes an entire draft worthwhile (though it was a previous one).

Everyone if you haven't heard this song, listen to it. It's absolutely incredible. I don't know who drafted it here or originally those years back.

Reading the sports page during the 60s Packers championship years is my earliest memory of reading.  I remember being read to by my parents and there's a gap to the Pack.

I've rolled both Golden Smog songs.

It looks like @Uruk-Hai is here.  Has your Saturday morning started already??
I'll probably crawl back into bed in a bit. I took a nap earlier. I thought I was heading to Maryland tomorrow to pick up a 1/4 of beef, but the order got screwed up. So, I told my brother and cousin to split the half that got processed. I still have some left from last year.

Right now, I have the DID Mix on. Pink Floyd's "Dogs". No Pavement yet, though

I took it. The chorus is one of the great barroom singalongs.

Golden Smog is the supergroup not Bill Callahan.

SUITE: JUDY BLUE EYES - CROSBY, STILLS AND NASH - I had So far... on regular repeat in my childhood home and I still think as a guy growing up in the CD era, we're missing the boat not doing a few greatest hits rounds but in any case I digress. This song is so good, I barely think about how Neil Young could have made it even better.

Also, punched this one up right now.

would have definitely gone with "So Far" - definite replay on my stereo.

It's a super-pleasing song, and one I'll definitely listen to more.  It kind of makes me laugh that the chorus sounds a little like John Lennon forgetting the lyrics to a John Lennon song, or Otis Redding doing Daytripper and just winging it.

  He doesn't even give a #### what the lyrics are. I think he just wanted to cover a popular song, and liked the title + groove

Not a shuffle thing but this afternoon I was driving, and the alternative rock station that is pretty focused on all new stuff, out of nowhere busted out Rebellion (Lies). Oh my god did I lose my mind, turn the volume all the way up, rip off the knob and throw it out the window. Okay I didn't but how great is it hearing a song like that (from the album I took at 1.09) randomly in the wild like that.

JOHN MAYER LIVE SONG - It's not quite DMB but it's trying to be... (I usually like John Mayer)

Getting in Tune - The Who - HOW THE #### DID THIS ALBUM LAST TIL ROUND 2.

You listened to the entire thing?

Btw, I'm on an Eels song now.  This is a band I should listen to a lot more of.
I did. I actually like Floyd - some, anyway. Most of my ragging on them here is shtick, though too much in one sitting depresses me.

If he had lived, I would have loved to hear Otis Redding cover "Wish You Were Here" - by far, IMO, the most soulful song PF ever did.

FAKE HAPPY - PARAMORE - #### YES. I think Hayley Williams will probably be appreciated more in retrospect because it's a bit hard getting past those early mall-punk Paramore albums but After Laughter is perfect and the self titled Paramore before it is great... and her new solo album is pretty good and I'm sure there's more to come.

Drifting back in the mix after looking at books. There was some Elliott Smith in there and Queen.  Don't remember any others but my mind was elsewhere.

The Shins - New Slang - lovely tune

Sinatra - Change Partners - Sorry Frank but I'll always associate you with the death of a dog.  Just like Mitt Romney.  I probably mentioned it fifty times in the Sinatra thread but his records were beautifully crafted.

Stevie Wonder - Another Star  I know this is a long one.  Not my favorite Stevie.  The disco beat is just there all the time which limits the song's possibilities.

Aretha - Just Right Tonight - Oh yeah.  Long big band intro and Lady Soul enters just before the three minute mark with some scatting.  The verse doesn't kick until 3:30.  There are so many great voices but Aretha's is one of the best.

There is a pretty cool thing going on downtown. They boarded up all the windows in most of the places down there (cause most were broken), and they are welcoming any artists which means graffiti people too, to paint whatever they feel on the ply boards they have put up. There is so much art already put on those boards now, and it looks so colorful and inspiring. There is still a curfew at 8.

Pink Floyd the wall depresses the f out of me btw. I like wywh, dark side of the moon is incredible, and what I've heard of animals is cool. But I can't get w the wall

Curfew sucks but the rest is cool. Ok, needing to board the windows sucks too. But the painting part is cool
