Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (3 Viewers)

So I know they’re not that popular around these parts, but this is another group of local guys that was a family favorite for a long time. The album I’m taking is a remix of the blockbuster Hybrid Theory (and its extra tracks), with the songs redone by the band and guest performers/djs. I have ended up listening to this one more than their other studio albums, partly because it kicks butt, and partly because I can still hear all their other stuff on the radio every day. 43.19 - Linkin Park - Reanimation (2002)

So I’ve seen these guys a ton, but I have a few great concert memories in particular:

- One of my favorite concert experiences was in the Family Values Tour when STP, Linkin Park, and another yet to be drafted popular/unpopular band (who’s lead singer appeared in Reanimation) all came out to perform with each other at various times.
- Linkin Park was also my kids first rock concert (that I think I mentioned when talking about Incubus). They knew most of the songs and I still have vivid memories of my 7-8 year old kids standing on their seats screaming “SHUT UP WHEN I’M TALKING TO YOU!!”  They even got to meet the band briefly since we had back stage passes from Incubus.
- My wife and I went to the Linkin Park and Friends concert at the Hollywood Bowl, which was a tribute concert for Chester a few months after his suicide (it was originally supposed to be part of their tour for their latest album). They had a different guest artist to sing different LP songs with the band, showed some recent videos of them working on the new album with all their families, Chester’s wife came out to talk about their foundation and some other suicide prevention efforts, and it ended with the entire audience singing In the End along with a previous concert video with Chester. It was an amazing experience.

Lost Somewhere Between the Earth and My Home - The Geraldine Fibbers (1995)

the decade wasn't a total loss  ... Carla Bozulich  helped craft a down home cooker of quasi grungey/punky alt country, layering her rich and versatile vox over it all ... such a uniquely raw sounding voice.

a haunting platter of yarns dealing with addiction, depression ... poetry - love and loss and the painful realization that this might be all there really is, ever.

Lilybelle  amazing tempo/mood shifts, one of the most compelling and gorgeous tunes dealing with the detachment of one's mind and the subsequent isolation of the soul.

Dragon Lady  Carla should've been paid more attention to - this is a perfectly pitched slow burner - featuring a shout out to my already drafted Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex.

PLZ TO ADD TO SPOTTY! TIA ✌

I have a busy weekend. I'll get caught up when I can.

On a totally unrelated note, what do ya'll think about taking an Uber in these unprecedented times? Yay? Nay?

43.06 - Quartet in G, Claude DebussyQuartet in F, Maurice Ravel, Cleveland String Quartet

The most beautiful record in creation. What the Enlightment German composers had in majesty, the Russians in evocation and the Italians in theatricality, the Romantic Era French had in melody & melancholy. To be in love & pain simultaneously is to have the ingredients of life before you. Your subsequent recipe is the measure of your life and life itself the banquet (or garbage barge) of those efforts. For all their insufferabiltiy & cigarettes, the French understand that better than anyone.

Only a semi-nay from me. I would take one but would one but would prefer the windows down while doing it.

ah, #### - i missed it. Fridays are grocery shopping day, so i'm up @ 5:30am to take advantage of the market's senior early-bird hour and, therefore, crashed early. not that the rock & roll road has ever been even close to well-portrayed, but eternal vigilance against Almost Famous is the price of freedom from inane cliches of wish fulfillment. @simey leading a busload of strays in We've Only Just Begun would have been closer to the truth. AND TRUTH MUST ABIDE!!!!
Can't stand that movie

Jerry Izenberg's book about heavyweight boxers.  He has a great old fashioned sportswriter voice and knew everybody from Liston to Holyfield.

I always alternate fiction with non so I'm picking between novels.
What's the name of this book?  I may be interested in it.

When I was walking earlier today I walked by this beauty. It was in pristine condition. Someone put a lot of time and money into restoring that car. It looks like a 60s model.

In other news, I went to the colony to put down some food grade diatomaceous earth to keep ants away from where the cats eat. Some guy pulls up about 40 feet away in a VW bug, gets out of the car, and then whips out his #### and pisses on the pavement.

Great Saturday chill and grill shuffle

- The that Got Away: five stars for Dorothy

- Sugar Cube: yo quiero

- Gin and Juice: perfect song except it’s the edited version- can’t even say indo! Had to skip due to all the edits

- Sour Girl: back into the groove

UNTIL YOU CAME ALONG - GOLDEN SMOG - I think is maybe the most perfect love song for my relationship and also one of the best songs ever. I love this song so much and first heard it through a FFA draft. One of those songs that makes an entire draft worthwhile (though it was a previous one).

Everyone if you haven't heard this song, listen to it. It's absolutely incredible. I don't know who drafted it here or originally those years back.
I cannot see this band and not think of our own ...Golden Plane.

43.03: Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails (1969)

Often overlooked band from the Haight-Ashbury scene amid the Dead, Jefferson Airplane, etc, but these guys were just as good IMO. Great early jam band.

Without question, this follow-up to Quicksilver Messenger Service's self-titled debut release is the most accurate in portraying the band on vinyl in the same light as the group's critically and enthusiastically acclaimed live performances. The album is essentially centered around the extended reworkings of Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love?" and "Mona," as well as the lesser lauded -- yet no less intense -- contribution of Gary Duncan's (guitar/vocals) "Calvary." This album is the last to feature the original quartet incarnation of QMS. The collective efforts of John Cipollina (guitar/vocals), Greg Elmore (percussion), David Freiberg (bass/vocals), and the aforementioned Duncan retain the uncanny ability to perform with a psychedelic looseness of spirit, without becoming boring or in the least bit pretentious. The side-long epic "Who Do You Love?" suite is split into an ensemble introduction and coda as well as four distinct sections for the respective bandmembers. The perpetually inventive chops of QMS are what is truly on display here. The musicians' unmitigated instrumental prowess and practically psychic interaction allow them to seamlessly weave into and back out of the main theme. Yet all the while, each player takes center stage for uncompromising solos. "Mona" and its companion, "Calvary," continue in much the same fashion. Here the members of QMS play off each other to form a cohesive unit. This track also contains some of Cipollina's finest and most memorable fretwork. He is able to summon sonic spirits from his guitar in a way that is unlike any of his Bay Area contemporaries. A prime example of his individuality is the frenetic "Maiden of the Cancer Moon" -- ascending from the remnants of "Mona." The angst and energy in Cipollina's guitar work and line upon line of technical phrasing could easily be considered the equal of a Frank Zappa guitar solo. The brief title track, a cover of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans' "Happy Trails," seems almost insignificant in the wake of such virtuoso playing. It clears the sonic palette and also bids adieu to this particular fab foursome of psychedelia.
Who Do You Love, Part 1

Second Colter Wall song tonight.  Love this guy's voice.  Kudos to the drafter of this.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, someone putting Ted Nugent on this mix makes me extra special stabby in every way.
that was me - and it's pure 70s guitar rock heaven

ETA:  I'm catching up posts and I see other uncomplimentary comments about Ted Nugent - happy to replace it

It takes me back to a time - maybe not Heavy Metal Parking Lot back ...this is 10 years past my HS years but still looks pretty familiar.  It's Maryland, not Dayton, OH ...but it just as easily could have been about any Midwestern town that had Judas Priest fans

NOTE: did not remember the opening line where the 20 yr old kid is making out with a 13 yr old girl - not cool

A few shuffle songs

Blue Collar - BTO - I like the groovy guitar playing in it.

Warrior - Wishbone Ash - The song sounds like a 70s progressive rock tune. It is ok.  Theatrical sounding to me. The lead guitar player is really good.

Off He Goes - Pearl Jam - I liked the song a lot. I've never heard it before.

Sixty Years On - Elton John - Elton sounds great, and I like the orchestra on the song.

Digital Bath - Deftones - I like it

Limelight - Rush - One of my favorite Rush songs.

Once There Were Heavyweights. Most will be interested. I read Izenberg's columns in the Newark Star-Ledger for years - he is what Francesa pictures himself to be
I'm familiar with Izenberg's TV work but this is the first I've read of him.  He has some great material to work with and he tells it with color and humor.  It opens with a history of mob involvement in boxing and then gives a chapter each to around a dozen fighters (Ali gets two).  The chapters are self contained and read like extended magazine pieces.

The ebook was part of Prime Reading when I checked it out a few months back but it's not there anymore.

Thanks! There are a few more in the linked playlist that need to be added as well. Specifically, the AWOLNATION, Eminem, Morrissey, and Snoop. You got the other 4 it looks like.
got all of them but Snoop - I searched but didn't find - send me the album and songs and I'll make sure they get into the spotify list

PICK 43.21

THE GUESS WHO - AMERICAN WOMAN (1970)

This is another group that I grew up with - but had the "Best Of The Guess Who".  This album has several hits and will do nicely.  Very much of the CCR-style rock of that time - these songs hold up for me.

- American Woman

- No Time

...missing out on "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature"
