Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (2 Viewers)

I'm only considering live albums I already listened to.
Same, I won't take an album that is live just as a work around to get a greatest hits album. However, if I am listening to JB, the live Apollo album is the first one I go to. Stop Making Sense is also a go to album and movie for me.

I have two live albums on my radar, one will probably go in this draft, the other we could go 1000 rounds and no one would take it but me, and I'm not sure I will.  Both are "metal" bands but not very heavy.

I'm more interested in compilations and where the line is
I really hope nobody takes greatest hit type compilations myself.

Missing that hurt.  Do over and I take it 1.7 honestly.

Pulse was GREAT.  That's why I did that.  I agree in most cases.  Folsom is great too.

I will be taking a couple of live records late for sure. A couple of my favorites are better live than in studio.
I'm sure there are some good Johnny Cash albums, but Folsom was the only one of his on my list - so much better live vs the studio.

and ftr- I have zero problem with you guys taking live, comps or any other albums (ktel classics still available)... just trying to impose some nerd out on my own island

My one live album is kinda a greatest hits album but it is also probably the only band where I prefer to hear their live stuff rather than their studio stuff. I intend to post some live vs. studio comparisons once I pull the trigger (no way on God's green earth is that pick going to get sniped) but it will probably be much later in the draft where song fatigue has kicked in and no one will give a rat's ### whether it is live, a compilation, or how it sounds.

As an aside, I am enjoying the master playlist, but there must be some inside joke I am unaware of that requires drafters to pick the longest songs on the album. I think I sat down for 30 minutes late last night and made it through 3 songs.

We should get one "free pass" on comps.  I may take one with my last pick and you can all come to my island and try to take it from me.

I do have a few LIVE albums I am considering later in the draft.. ones I reach for all the time

I have two that are just about the only comps I listen to ...and I listen to them a lot.

still feel a bit dirty even thinking about it

8.12 - Rush - Exit...Stage Left

My name is Mr. Ected, and I am a Rush Fan. I humbly apologize.

I'm pretty sure there are a couple more in here, so I need to grab this because in 70ish picks, it may not be here.

I love this album, it is my 'go to' for listening on Spotify if I just need music I like while I am doing stuff when I have my AirPods on. It is a great summary of the first portion of their career, before the 'Keyboard-era' really began. Love the title, shows their fun-side; yes it is from the The Pink Panther cartoon and was his 'go to line' when leaving a situation. The album cover is my favorite. Back when music had artwork, it was a great way to sum up the previous albums, with a reference to each album somewhere on the cover.

So as to not truly offend the true Rush-haters out there I am chasing two of my favorites from this album that are not with Geddy's so-called screechy voice and are not 10+ minutes long.

1) Spirit of Radio
2) Red Barchetta

Good stuff. The music, anyway. The videos suck, but that won't affect the play list
What!?!?

You don't like the island of misfit toys yeti in an ESB wampa cave crossover combined with some old school Gumby type stop action claymation? **

** I'd be willing to bet the above sentence has never been written in the history of mankind.

It's like an infinite number of monkeys with typewriters all simultaneously shed sparks of genius.***

***Probably also utterly unique in the history of mankind.

Wow!  I was so all set to take Moving Pictures, as I felt it should slide no further, that I'm listening to Vital Signs right now as a possible #2 track

Forget it now!  Maybe later.  Good pick.

8.14 The Hold Steady - Stay Positive

As I woke from my slumber a few hours ago I found myself torn between this and Rush

Initially was leaning this way, for the singalong songs.  Slowly my VBD ruled heart began to go the other way, but then Mr E made my choice for me

Now I know if nothing else my gb Northern Voice will swim great lengths to see me

One For The Cutters - not a popular opinion but this is my favorite legal drama on the album

Lord I'm Discouraged - for @Tremendous Upside  how's the dirtnap gb

2008

####!

:hifive:    #### that apologizing!!!

suck it Rush haters.
One of the few bands I never "got". Hung out with a lot of band/music nerds in high school. They loved every little bit of minutiae regarding Rush. I'd just look at them with a face so blank, unwrinkled, devoid of thought, and full of bewilderment a deer in headlights or Jared Kushner would look like a comedy act of Sam Kinison humping Bobcat Goldthwait in comparison to me.*

*Also likely a unique sentence in the history of mankind. I'm on a COVID19 isolation roll today folks.

I see the cherry has finally been popped. I might have taken them earlier, but it's a deep pool of albums to choose from.

i will be honest, i don't even have a list.  i'm just going where the mood takes me.

and i also agree with whomever mentioned upthread about not listening to lyrics.  I couldn't even tell you what 95% of my favorite songs are really about.  I am much more about the vibe or technical mastery.

there must be some inside joke I am unaware of that requires drafters to pick the longest songs on the album.
I'm surprised I'm not more to blame for this than I already am - before Tool I only had two songs over 6 minutes. Length of time certainly doesn't make a song great, but for me I think the best ones generally have it.

When I was in the high school band in 92-93 we played a lot of RUSH in the lot to get us amped up.
