Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (2 Viewers)

By the way, with the pace of this thread, I'm probably not going to be able to keep up during the work week or even the weekend.  I'll see how tomorrow goes but will probably need to be on auto-skip following tomorrow.
you have my number. I'm not necessarily prompt, but I'm working in home office all day

otb's 4:30 a.m. shuffle shennanigans  :coffee:

Starálfur - Sigur Rós

took my longest cig drag ever during the middle ... reminiscent of some ethereal Goth, kinda (Cocteau Twins, e.g.) - sorta Celtic? to me it is   are they Icelandic? so sorta Viking?  i wanna visit the Faroe Islands very much - it's atomospheric enough in this tune to stir that ... love that the ending of this devolved into some kinda musical Dyatlov Pass - 8.0

Something In The Air - T'Clap Newman

familiar with this one, but not intimate, ya know? a Beatle-esque middle kinda threw me, sounds like "Martha My Dear" played sideways - ergo, reminiscent of ELO during that part ... that was certainly cut out the single version that i most remember - it's a lovely piece of music, which is cool by me - 7.0

Place To Be - Nick Drake

short n' sweet - man got in and out in 2:41 ... i appreciate the economic use of brilliance here. i can hear so many artists who followed in his footsteps in that strumming ... not exactly aural Xanax, but it's very "nod squad"-ish - which is not necessarily the worst thing in the world when delivered with such brevity - 7.0

Where Is My Mind - Pixies

long a staple of any playlist/tape/burn i ever culled - not much more to add about a perfect song - 10

The Good Life - Devon Gillfillian

sweet ... i'm no fan of canned beats (or Canned Heat, ftr) - i like the flow of this one .. has a 70s soul callback, which will win me over everytime - dunno how "modern" this is, but it sounds much better than the usual #### i hear blasted everywhere - 6.5

Things We Said Today - The Quarrymen

love the more uptempo earlier stuff - Paul's vocals here are perhaps the most malevolent and forlorn as i've ever heard from him - it's a haunting tune. i always contend that "I'll Be Back" was John's 'answer' to this one ... both great tunes - 9.0

The Dark Of The Matinée - Franz Ferdinand

shame that they shot this cat, this is a flat-out rock n' roll dance floor stomper - like if the Strokes had some rhythm - 9.0

What The Blood Clot (live) - Wuhan Virus Clan

live from where? their shower? where's the crowd? gets a plus for being a ridiculous mess, but the incessant "N" word chanting is lame as #### to me - oh, wait - there's the crowd at the end!  meh. i'll toss it some love for being so outta control - i am a big fan of chaos - but this genre will never do it for me - 5.5

Headlong - Queen

big fan of the group ... but not of this one - they do "butch" so much better on any number of songs - May's playing is sublime, film at 11 - 6.0

White Winter Hymnal - Fleet Foxes

why haven't i heard this before? this is a needle-mover for me, melodic and punchy ... love the timpani hits, timpani hits always get me - so i hope they are, indeed, timpani hits - 9.0

capped at 10 - avg. score of 7.7

i may not love all i'm hearing, but i'm digging the variance so very much ... lotta eye opening stuff going down.

(currently on Robot Rock/Oh Yeah by Daft Punk ... wtf?  into the otb Spotty ya go! 8.5)

Round 7 Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs - Derek and the Dominoes (1970)

I've been looking at this one for a while and wondering why it was still out there and then a few picks before my turn, ironically, Mr. Ected took EC Unplugged citing Layla as one of the reasons.

I'm not a huge fan of solo Clapton - although I like his playing - I find it a little boring. I like Cream, love Blind Faith and really love the Dominoes. Clapton and Duane Allman trading licks? Yes, please.

Bell Bottom Blues

Why Does Love Have To Be So Sad
Bobby Whitlock steals the show for me

if there's a better ballad, i wanna hear it.

now.

What kinds?  I have a Nakamichi, Kenwood, Marantz, pioneer, and...maybe I only have four.
My original two deck Kenwood in my attic record room thats about 25 years old and a Fisher that I grabbed at a tag Sales in January before the lockdown.  I have another one or two waiting in the wings if one of these two crap out...  I am starting to play some of my old cassettes over the summer in rotation for some good clean fun.  Also found a couple of $5 boom boxes at two garage sales last year, cd/tape combo units as well.. good times...

Here we go:

Round 7.38

The Roots - Things Fall Apart (1999)

Masters of the emcee with a live backing act come correct with a whole slew of goodness. Pre-dating their true crossover hit that featured rock n' roll, this one stays with hip hop as its main avenue of reaching listeners.

Table Of Contents (Pts 1 & 2)

Frankly, I think you'd be much better off with special brownies.  You have no idea what extra crap they are putting in there.  The damage from vaping could be very bad.

Sorry if I harshed your mellow.
The issue with eating it is that it gets metabolized differently and it causes me to react negatively. I get very paranoid and uncomfortable. I did a lot of research when the vaping popcorn long was a big news story a few months ago. From most of what I saw, the issues were connected with black market vape carts. Michigan actually put a brief half on their sale to review that everyone being sold in stories was pure and not being cut with dangerous chemicals. So while I am sure there’s negative effects, I also feel pretty confident it’s safer than smoking the flower itself.

Great soundtrack. First time I ever heard Institutionalized was off this soundtrack and was immediately hooked.

this choice cannot get enough love from me. period.

demo of the title track

as good as anything he did with the Stooges.

Not sure that really answered anything definitively. There is a lot we don't know about vaping. Vaping flower is probably the cleanest way to go really. But my personal experience from vaping vs smoking is vaping doesn't even cause me to cough where smoking often had me hacking up a lung. I've never felt any throat issues vaping but when smoking, sometimes I would wake up the next day and feel still feel it a bit.

popcorn lung ... vaping is a more silent killer than tobacky.

Now for the non-Spotify joint. I don't think I'm in danger of getting sniped, but LBL, Yo Mama, and Tasker are nipping around.

Round 8.03

Various Artists - Soundbombing II - Rawkus Records (1999)

J-Rocc and Babu man the tables for what is considered quite possibly the finest hip hop compilation ever, if not only of its era. To wit: Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Eminem, El-P and Company Flow. The songs below flow into each other. I'd encourage listening in order. I've cut to the segue between Dilated Peoples and Thirstin Howl III for those eager for the endeavor. This was my favorite record of 2002. (I got there late.)

Thirstin Howl III - Brooklyn Hard Rock

Pharoahe Monch - Mayor

Company Flow - Patriotism

Yep, that was the big issue recently. It's typically from a flavor additive (which most marijuana vapes don't have, there is no flavor to it). Michigan had an emergency action last fall to stop all vape sales and remove anything with the additive that causes popcorn lung. The other cause of popcorn lung also comes from smoking marijuana in general so I don't think vape vs smoking matters there. Vaping certainly poses a risk, but I don't think we fully understand it. All I can say is I feel better than I did when I was smoking flower more often.

i definitely would have chosen patriotism but the other one would be hard.
