Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (1 Viewer)

Okay, hear me out. This band made some great music until they went completely off the rails with their fourth album. Of course, doing so brought them commercial success. It also gave us one of the most putrid songs of the 80s (Everybody Have Fun Tonight).

26.06 To Live & Die in LA (soundtrack) - Wang Chung (1985)

Great movie with a great soundtrack. The album features one side of mostly new regular songs for the movie (though one track was plucked from an earlier album) and the second side is all instrumental/electronic original compositions that were part of the movie's scoring.

Songs:

To Live and Die in L.A.

Wake Up, Stop Dreaming
Nice. I used to have this cassette. Loved the title song. Singing it in my head now.

🐴  you all should've followed me into the wagering thread - posted a $624 winning P4 ticket for Tampa Bay Downs 🐴

If you push for it when the time comes I'll consider asking Karma Police to replace it on the play list with I Don't Trust Myself With Loving You

No, I'm not the man I used to be lately
See, you met me at an interesting time
And if my past is any sign of your future
You should be warned before I let you inside
Do that anyway imo.  It also leaves the other option open.  I will take that if it's there.

26.16 - Songs: Ohia/The Magnolia Electric Co. - The Magnolia Electric Co. (2003)

There's a lot of confusion about whether this record was the last record from Songs: Ohia or the first record from The Magnolia Electric Co., but whatever it was, RIP Jason Molina.  Such a sad figure.  My island is getting a bit dreary.

I've Been Riding With The Ghost

Farewell Transmission
wow - likin' this ...never heard of them

PICK 26.20

STEVE MILLER BAND - BRAVE NEW WORLD

Songs

- Space Cowboy

- My Dark Hour

Similar to the "Singles" album I would have preferred to take for Squeeze ...the album to have for Steve Miller Band is "Anthology" ...a compilation of his better stuff up till '72.  But this album is a great representation of what Steve Miller was ...and what he meant to the early SF scene.

I love this stuff and it was hard to pick just 2 songs.  I became very disappointed with most all of this stuff after that ...happy for him and his commercial success, but this is the very definition of "his early stuff was so much better/hipster doofus"  :bag:

Alright, time to grab something newer again. I was torn between two albums for this group, so I decided to go with the one that has my two favorite songs from them versus another album that is a little deeper in overall quality. Yo Mama welcomes Jack White to the island and selects:

26.22 - The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers (2006)

Going with my top two songs for the playlist, with Steady being one of my favorite songs for that year.

Steady as She Goes

Round 25 Harlem River Blues - Justin Townes Earle (2010)

I drafted this early in the Decade Desert Island Draft as it's a record that gets heavy play from me. The son of Southern Rock icon Steve Earle, Justin is a lot more introspective and crosses into blues and pop while drawing some country influence from his dad as well. This record is very NYC-centric in its theme and lyrics.

Skip me for the night. Got studyin' to do for tomorrow morning, would rather wait to get proper write-ups together instead of rushing it.

I need some CCR on the Island, went to my brothers 30th birthday party in Queens back in '85, he got Chronicle on CD, a bit of a music late bloomer,  I was 19 at the time, and I put it on to check it out and it blew me away hearing those songs for the first time.  If we were choosing greatest hits comps, that would be in my top 3 easy.

rd 26 - Creedance Clearwater Revival - Willy and the Poor Boys - 1969
