Okay, hear me out. This band made some great music until they went completely off the rails with their fourth album. Of course, doing so brought them commercial success. It also gave us one of the most putrid songs of the 80s (Everybody Have Fun Tonight).

26.06 To Live & Die in LA (soundtrack) - Wang Chung (1985)

Great movie with a great soundtrack. The album features one side of mostly new regular songs for the movie (though one track was plucked from an earlier album) and the second side is all instrumental/electronic original compositions that were part of the movie's scoring.

Similar to the "Singles" album I would have preferred to take for Squeeze ...the album to have for Steve Miller Band is "Anthology" ...a compilation of his better stuff up till '72.  But this album is a great representation of what Steve Miller was ...and what he meant to the early SF scene.  

I love this stuff and it was hard to pick just 2 songs.  I became very disappointed with most all of this stuff after that ...happy for him and his commercial success, but this is the very definition of "his early stuff was so much better/hipster doofus"

Round 25 Harlem River Blues - Justin Townes Earle (2010)

I drafted this early in the Decade Desert Island Draft as it's a record that gets heavy play from me. The son of Southern Rock icon Steve Earle, Justin is a lot more introspective and crosses into blues and pop while drawing some country influence from his dad as well. This record is very NYC-centric in its theme and lyrics.

I need some CCR on the Island, went to my brothers 30th birthday party in Queens back in '85, he got Chronicle on CD, a bit of a music late bloomer,  I was 19 at the time, and I put it on to check it out and it blew me away hearing those songs for the first time.  If we were choosing greatest hits comps, that would be in my top 3 easy.
