Round 33 - Bob Seger, Live Bullet (1975)

I get this artist elicits some strong reactions, ones I don’t particularly understand, I am rather surprised he is completely unrepresented this deep into this thing. There may not be any Night Moves (oh noes! spoiler!), but he’s better live than in the studio so I’ll deal with the trade-off.
This is a great album.  Kind of like with Steve Miller after '72 ...this is the peak Bob Seger for me ...the other album after is kind of "ok" ...but I was still coming off this live album high.

Crazy combo?

Saw Bob Seger warm up for Kiss in '76 at Riverfront Coliseum.  (Artful Dodger was opener ...but who cares)

Pretty big tour with them that year.

Mom had this album when I was growing up, and I loved it. Still do.  "When Will I Be Loved" is on the record, which most would know, but I'm going to put a song on it that I think Wicked Wikki would like cause JD Souther wrote it, and he loves him some JD.  It's a nice song with a slow bango weaving through it. JD also sings a bit on the song. This album also has the great Hank Williams cover of I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love with You), which she does with Emmy Lou. I also love "Keep Me From Blowing Away" and more. All the songs are good on it.

Round 34

Heart Like A Wheel -  Linda Ronstadt (1974)

You're No Good

Faithless Love

One of my all time favorites.  She has other's though so I waited.  She was a huge influence to pre MTV pik mini.

WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA, wait just a second there, missy.  This hadn't been taken?
A life long friend of mine is an accomplished sax man. Has a full time gig in a Vegas casino with a longstanding show. We were roommates for awhile in college. He used Giant Steps to learn. Played along with it over and over. Pause rewind try again. Hundreds and hundreds of hours. He and the drummer play Countdown as opening music while the crowd settles in. It's my favorite Trane... before he got so... difficult.

32.30... Dyke and the Blazers- The Funky Broadway (1967)

Uhh Part 1

The Wrong House

:nerd:  first use of the word "funky" in a song. heard this in village music, mill valley CA (home base countless hours spent thumbing through John's record bins) and lost my ####. the wrong house is one of my all time faves- always bop along and always laugh. I know I've taken that one before in song drafts.

34.06 Un-Led-Ed - Dread Zeppelin (1990)

This is a band that mostly does Led Zep covers in a reggae style. Oh, and the lead singer is an Elvis impersonator. I listened to this 100s of times in college. I dunno.

Songs:

Whole Lotta Love

Your Time is Gonna Come

In this demo of drafters I figured I wouldn’t get a crack at these guys. Then we were in the 29th round before even one finally fell off the board. So what am I missing? They may have better albums, but this is the only one I was familiar with beginning-to-end before we started, it has their best cut (by a lot), and kinda like Seger they would have been a much greater priority if this were a greatest hits draft. Although perhaps that one cut being so over played for this particular demo is why this is still available.

Round 34 - The Doobie Brothers, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits (1973)

Black Water

Another Park, Another Sunday

You know you’re over-thinking things when you’re this deep into the draft and you spend more than 5 seconds thinking about which of the next 2 to take first. I did. So I smacked myself in the face, stopped, and just picked the one I found myself chair dancing to more. Much like the next one, this is my favorite offering from an artist I want on my island and would have prioritized sooner if this were greatest hits.

Turn the Page

Ramblin' Gamblin' Man
I thought this was a "greatest hits" album or I would have drafted it 15 rounds ago.  My wife love Bob Seger so I "have" to like him.  Went to see him about 6 years ago.  Pretty good show for an old man.

I've got 6 more records left to draft. I know what three of them will be. I think. I'm always changing at the last minute.

Again, songs to be named later, but I decided I will need a sprinkling of rap/hip-hop and I thought this was long gone.  (seems like that's the mantra of the last couple rounds)

33.01:  KENDRICK LAMAR - TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY (2015)

32.28

COLIN MELOY - COLIN MELOY SINGS LIVE!

(2009)

Pulling a bit of an endrun here to get a bunch more Decemberists songs, but I really love the sound quality and voice quality of this album and it is really so good to play at any time.

"Devil's Elbow"

"We Both Go Down Together"

"Evoking a Campfire Singalong"

"The Gymnast, High Above the Ground"

"Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect/Dreams"

"Dracula's Daughter"

"Wonder"

"A Brief Introduction to Shirley Collins"

"Barbara Allen" (traditional)

"The Engine Driver"

"On the Bus Mall"

"A Skull, a Ship, and a Sheep"

"California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade/Ask"

"The Bachelor and the Bride"

"A Cautionary Song"

"Red Right Ankle

"Bandit Queen"

He's got another live album on Spotify.

I'm gonna try to watch this movie again.  It seems Binky has this all well under control.  Skip me if I come up.  With seven(?) records left, I have nothing but personal faves that no one will snipe anyway.

I gave both Dirt and Facelift a spin last week. The others not drafted yet either. Just too many skips on them. Some of their songs can't be done well if they went light (We Die Young is a legendary cut), but I think the versatile ones are better when the mood is turned to somber. It was unreasonably deflating deleting this band from my list.
Which ones were skips?

this is the third leg for me with my 3 favorite jazz records, with kind of blue and time out already gone... I better grab it now, I do have a lot of other favorites and am getting very deep into Jazz now, but this a long time favorite and I play this most often...

rd 33 - bill evans - sunday at the village vanguard - 1961

  • my man's gone now
  • all of you
gosh darn, this was probably going to be one of my next selections.  Good choice.

This surprises me because I listen to a lot of 70s music now, but after looking at my list to see where I am at overall heading into the final 7 picks  -  I started the draft with 4 of my first 5 picks from the 70s, and I am currently sitting at 4 albums out of 33 for my island.

My breakdown:

70s - 4

80s - 3

90s-  12

00s - 7

10s - 7

Cha Cha Muldowney FTW

ETA:  Let the record reflect that drag movie means drag racing and not drag queens which my original reply didn't make very clear.
I purposely set that trap fwiw.
