Always "omelete" in Portuguese, but as far as English goes, I unconsciously opt for omelet. Omelette is decidedly fancier, though.

35.25 - Gil Scott-Heron - Pieces of a Man (1971)

I prefer the version of "Revolution" on his prior album (no flute!) and would have taken that since I love spoken-word poetry, if it were not for one track that I absolutely will not have on my island.  Let's say that he was not exactly progressive at the time when it came to LGBT matters.

A whole lot of the rap and hip-hop artists you guys have chosen owe a huge debt to this guy.

Song choices:  The rest of this album is nothing like "Revolution," which makes that piece seem almost misplaced, but it's a seminal work that I want on my island.   My second song choice is a phenomenal work that fits the Island of Sorrow and forms a good companion piece to "Livin' For the City" from my very first pick in the draft.

Have got to get something from the best band from our friends to the south(sorry Rush fans)-- The Tragically Hip. This is my fav album by them and listen to it at least once a week when I need a break from the metal. The hard part is picking the 2 songs to spotlight- everyday it seems I change my mind as almost every track is stellar. After giving it a listen earlier today these are the 2 that made the cut for today.

32.30....The Brand New Heavies- Heavy Rhyme Experience, vol 1 (1992)

ok... loved these guys' first acid jazz album. saw them play their first US gig at a small NYC club with tickets won from WFMU. the show was just all kinds of love and respect amongst the audience and band. IIRC, a couple of smaller rappers (at the time) opened for them. the show was such a lovefest, when they finished their encore it was clear the audience wasn't going to let them leave and the band didn't want to. they cycled back and played songs they'd already played, with the rappers jumping in to improv. audience lost their collective ####- I've never been to a show before or since that was so culturally blended and joyous... a rave without the obvious drugs or bpm. 

whoa... just looked it up and found this (I hadn't yet dived deeper into hip hop, but my gb who came to the show with my ex and I lived in the same building as Search, so recognized him):

While playing for the first time in New York at S.O.B.s in early 1991, the Heavies combined with rappers MC Search and Q-Tip, who jumped onstage during the Heavies’ encore and improvised to their music for a thrilled audience. The Heavies’ second album, Heavy Rhyme Experience, featured “the current cream of the East Coast hip-hop crop,” according to Reflex. Still, the album failed to garner altogether positive reviews.

I had always thought they joined MTV as their summer house band, and started adding hip-hop guys at that point... had no idea the show I was at was the genesis.

Who knew the names Karen and Richard would become slurs?  The names should be royalty.  This is by far the best proper album Karen and Richard did from top to bottom. The earlier albums had a lot of filler, but not this one.  This one has A Song For You (by Mr. Russell), Hurting Each Other, Top of the World, Bless the Beast and Children, Goodbye To Love, I Won't Last A Day Without You, It's Going To Take Some Time, and lesser known goodies like Crystal Lullaby and Road Ode.  Richard takes a stab at singing with Piano Picker. Not bad, but he needed to leave the singing to sis. He excels in arranging and composing. Flat Baroque he shows off his piano skills. There is even a brief intermission tune incase you need to use the bathroom while listening, and the album bookends with a short reprise of A Song For You. The siblings did a great job on this one.

This is an album I heavily associate with my dad. He played it a ton when it came out. Neil Young was one of the few concerts I got to see with my dad before he died. 

Unknown Legend is maybe a top 5 Neil Young song in my eyes. I realize that may be a scorching hot take.
