Desert Island Album Draft - 15th Anniversary Edition - 50 Rounds in the books, sign up now for KP's listening program (2 Viewers)

Let's just do this thing.

Hear me out - I know some of this album is hard to take, but it also contains four of my absolute favorite John Lennon solo songs.  Since John is my favorite Beatle musically, but my top few choices were taken earlier, I'm going with:

42.something - John Lennon & Yoko Ono - Double Fantasy (1980)

I'm selecting these two songs to keep up the theme I introduced above!

(Just Like) Starting Over

Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)
Sniped in round 42

South America is an untapped resource of music listening pleasure, and Mexico and Central America too.  Hate to go with a live compilation of sorts, but I'm just now figuring out some things.  From Colombia:

41.37 - Reluciente, Rechinante y Aterciopelado - by Aterciopelado   The leading lady is a force to behold.  According to Google Play notes, this album was recorded in front of an audience of 140.  Wish it was 141.

If I'm on an island definitely need some island music, right? Listen to him all the time but don't really know the names of alot of his songs because they are instramental,in Spanish or just blend together. Going with another debut--

Santana-Santana(1969)

Jingo

Soul Sacrifice

Added to playlist

42.xx  Sebadoh - III (1991)

I took this album in the 5-10-15-20 draft so there's no way I can't take it to my desert island.  It really did change the trajectory of the music I listened to and got me off the edge of the post-college rut I was careening into.

And, it's a good time to take it---back to back with Dino Jr.  The first track is a direct Lou Barlow shot at Mascis.  Glad they kissed and made up so I could see Dino Jr. in concert one time (loudest show I've ever attended).

OTOH, I've seen Sebadoh many times.

The Freed Pig

Scars, Four Eyes

I was bummed to miss out on my two favorite albums from this group, but I’m happy to grab this for my island (especially after giving it a relisten yesterday and today). There are definitely some low points that bring this behind Purple and Tiny Music for me, but there are some great songs here that I like as much as my favorites in those. Yo Mama selects:

42.22 - Stone Temple Pilots - Shangri-La Dee Da (2001)

Days of The Week is a fun one that I enjoy as much as most of their other post- [redacted] radio hits. Coma hits some of their best hard rocking notes. I always had a close connection with A Song for Sleeping since it was Scott’s lullaby for his baby son - and this album came out right after my first kid was born so it hit the right places for me. I’m going to take my two favorites, however, for the playlist including one of my wife and my “our songs” to try to woo her to my island.

Wonderful  😍

Too Cool Queenie

42.23 - Everything's Different Now - 'Til Tuesday (1988)

'Til Tuesday was on the rise when Aimee Mann stood up in Carnegie Hall and yelled "he said shut up".  The creepy guy from the video took his revenge and undermined the band's career so this, their third and final album wasn't a hit.  That's a shame because Everything's Different Now is a wonderful album loaded with melodic 80s Pop.  Mann's songs are mostly about another breakup, this one for real from songwriter Jules Shear.

J for Jules

The Other End (Of The Telescope)

Jingo is so ####### good.

The Rolling Stones - December's Children (And Everybody's) - (1965)

How about an album with parentheses in the title, eh? This is only Stones album left that I have any connection to. When I was getting into the Nuggets stuff years ago someone recommended this album and I got pretty into it for a while. Doesn't come close to their best stuff, but it's still the Stones.

Get Off Of My Cloud

She Said Yeah

Oooooo, fancy.

Btw, I have this as your Round 40 pick, with two more you can take as of now.  Let me know if that's not right.

I few Friday night music/draft questions:

1.  What have you stumbled on through the draft that was new to you and you are most excited about exploring more?

2.  What artist/album isn't new, but you know you should be listening to it more because every time it comes up you like it?

3.  What albums you drafted do you think might be new for a lot of us and would like people to listen to the most?
