DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (3 Viewers)

My last couple of picks

26

Islands - Wave Forms (2013)

The Coathangers - Follow Me (2014)

My mulligans.  A little more something for by the ladies.

Out w the Cars Hello Again.  They've got decent representation in the overall mix, and this song's a little goofy for mine.  But - the Pretenders weren't drafted at all??  Biggest surprise I've noticed.  Outkast had 25 songs taken.

The Pretenders - Middle Of The Road (1984)

And we could use a little more Metric I guess, better fit than the Turtle Giant filler piece I'm throwing back

Metric - Artificial Nocturne (2012)

My final mix. Ordered by year but meant to be shuffled.

I saw these guys in concert 10 years ago and they were fantastic.  Not sure they still can bring it like that but I'd love to see them try.
I saw them I want to say 6 years ago when they were touring for Forgiveness Rock Record, and they were great.  It makes me wonder what "reunited" means.  Does it mean Feist, Emily Haines, Amy Millan all performing with them?  Cause that's what I'd think when I hear "reunited".

ETA - they opened with "KC Accidental".  The stage was pitch black but you could see people moving and shuffling around,  Out of nowhere, two spotlights on the two front corners edges of the stage where Brendan Canning and one other guy, I can't remember who, played that famous "KC Accidental" opening riff.  Crowd went nuts.

Listened to RHE's 50/50 mix over the weekend.  I think I am going to be saying this a lot, but it was another mix that I really liked.  Not much like the first mix I listened to - this had a bit more of an edge to it.  I actually had a hard time picking the songs for the list I am making, but this is what I ended up putting on that one:

No You Girls, I'm the Man, Second Skin, Head On, The Misanthrope, Surrender, Younger Us

This list was a little more familar to me, but I'm the Man and Second Skin were completely new to me.  Of course I know and love Surrender, but it's one of those songs that is never in my rotation, as I don't love a ton of Cheap Trick stuff.  No You Girls was one of my favorites of the bunch, and I don't know why I don't listen to more FF, but this will be a reminder to do so.  Keep seeing people bring up Local H, and couldn't tell you more than that one song they did, but it rocked.  The other two were also bands I barely know, but would like to explore more as well.

Looks like Acer's is up next.

Love The Coathangers and The Pretenders pick.

eta* I voted for the Coathangers in the album poll last year.

Mulligans:

2003 - My Morning Jacket - "One Big Holiday"

2003 - R. Kelly - "Ignition (Remix)"

Another instantly packed dancefloor modern era classic.  After the show it's the afterparty, and after the party it's the hotel lobby, around about 4 you gotta clear the lobby, then take it to your room and _____ somebody.

1982 - Gregory Isaacs - "Cool Down the Pace"

1982 - Michael Jackson - "Thriller"

I figured I'd have been able to get some Michael on here somewhere but it just never really worked out.  My favorite Jackson 5 songs were taken, and I just never really fit one of the others in.  My 2 favorite songs off of Thriller are still on the board, "PYT" might be my favorite but this is another guaranteed packed dance floor, just fits better.

Working on my list, deciding on mulligans. Should be around at some point, likely in the P.M. Four mulligan songs for two spots is becoming tough, I guess.

Listened to the Spotify lists in the OP over the weekend. I was a little disappointed Acer didn't have Avicii as part of his playlist. Songs I added to my collection based on their lists:

Simey:

Round and Round & Torn - know both of the songs just didn't own them.

Ramsay:

Kiss with a Fist - never heard the song, wasn't familiar with the band so this is a great find.

Acer

Burnin For You - Thought I already had it in my collection just hadn't heard it in forever - I was wrong. So that was promptly added.

Uruk

One - I have a NIN cover by Cash but not this one.

  to you guys for some great playlists. Now if the other 20+ people would get their list in the OP....

I loved that R. Kelly song and PYT is the best song off of that album, IMO.

I remember a friend, back in the '90s, asking me what the greatest album of all time was. "Thriller," says I. "Thriller?" "Yes, Thriller. No irony."

"Huh," says he. "You might be right."

I was always partial to Human Nature. Speaking of MJ going to see these guys in April. They do a couple of MJ songs.

@Ramsay Hunt Experience >the "Night Moves" on your Spotify mix is a knockoff tribute band...
I know.  So is Gett Off.  But I also don't have anything for James Brown and I have freakin Avril Lavigne doing Bad Reputation.  Let's say that I was a bit too casual in checking spotify availability.  I'll fix what I can with the two Mulligans for draft purposes.

I'd frankly like to Mulligan anything like that for playlist purposes and probably will once it's not a "draft" playlist.  In any case, I'll do my mulligans this afternoon.

Anyone else find Michael's obsession with people getting into street fights/rumbles kind of anachronistic.

Wanna Be Startin' Something, Beat It, and even Bad are all pretty much the same theme.  Wanna Be Startin' Something is particularly weird.  If the guy is "a vegetable" now, the last thing he needs is you lecturing him, MJ.

:lmao: I just got to Avril's "Bad Reputation" and came here to tell you the same thing.  It's not a terrible rendition though, honestly.

I strongly considered picking this. Well done.
thanks.  :bowtie:  I had forgotten about it until I watched a race video (on Facebook, can't figure out how to share here - don't worry though, it's just the song with a dude's gopro showing him running on a snowy trail) from last year.

@Ramsay Hunt Experience I can't remember the last time I heard "Thrash Unreal".  This was on constant repeat on CFNY in Toronto for the longest time. Against Me! is underrated for sure.  It's a shame they get more pub for Laura Jane Grace being transgender instead of their music.

I've got 2 songs that I drafted that are not on Spotify.  I don't want to mulligan either of those songs but feel compelled to create a 50 song mix. There is 1 song that I do want to mulligan as I found a better song for that year by a band I really want to have in my mix.  It's a dilemma.

Mulligans, and these will close the bar because the mulligans are meant to be played, of course, at the end:

First one:

Better Valentine's Song than the corniness of Tallahassee Lassie (What was I thinking? Oh, beer was thinking, that's what.)

Same year. I love this song. He's pleading with the operator to get in touch with his Marie and there's a neat little twist at the end. Nice storytelling, beautiful all around.

Chuck Berry - Memphis, Tennessee - 1959

Next one:

What bar hasn't Courtney Love been kicked out of? It saddens me to do it, but this is possibly the best punk band ever. They shut down the bar with a euphoric political rocker, crib some pre-recorded sound recording material, and end it on a hymnal note. Hell yes.

I have eyes that see, I have a mind that thinks
I have a mouth that speaks and ### #### it will
Beacause I've had enough of all this #### about
"making do" "playing ball" "the way things are" and "dealing with it"
Mixing pop and politics, he asks me what the use is
I'm not into making excuses
And I'll die the day I find I'm ####### useless

"...All is well. Safely rest. God is nigh."

Dillinger Four - The Great American Going Out Of Business Sale - 1998

This is meant to be played on random.  Like I said at the beginning, no themes and not all necessarlily typical "jukebox" songs---I just picked songs that I like a lot and would want to hear if I was stranded on a deserted island.

Only 49 songs as Bare Trees by Fleetwood Mac is not on Spotify for some reason.  I'll probably fill it in with a backup later on.

Really wish one of these two was a jew. Not sure how this was not drafted

Yeah, I checked a few times to confirm that it hadn't been taken yet.  Thought it would go early.  I almost grabbed it a couple of times.

Thought about Seven Nation Army and love the song, but now that it is played at every sporting event ever, I have had my fill for a while.  I was going back and forth between Ball and Biscuit and Black Math for my mix.

My apologies for falling behind on this. Most of my research was on my laptop, which was out of my hands for a few days. Instead of trying to redo it, I just held off on picks. Will try and catch up tonight.

Mulligan #1-

Sorry Bob Seger Tribute Band.  You have a cool job, but I'm going to have sack Night Moves.  But I'll stick with some classic rock.

Heart -- Crazy On You -- 1976
I like Bob Seger, or did, back in the day - "Beautiful Loser," etc.  Night Moves was commercially successful but disappointed the hell out of me.

But "Crazy On You" is a great song - GIGANTIC IMPROVEMENT!!!

I've posted this several times in other threads. Love this song, love Ann Wilson back in the day. Awesome mulligan.
