DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (2 Viewers)

12.xx The Doors - LA Woman (1971)

My drug addled uncle (at that time, he's now clean) got me into the Doors at very young age (10-ish) and I wore out every one of their albums. Gotta have some Doors in my playlist.
I almost took this instead of Baby Blue for my 1971. I'll go over to your bar whenever I want to hear it.

#### it, we're dipping into Spoon and Wilco now. With my 22nd pick, I'm making my first not-black artist pick and first post-2000 pick because I don't want to miss this. I'm not sure I really have any sort of cohesive theme anymore. Got some soul, some R&B, some hip hop, some dance music.....but I need some ### #### guitars.

12.18b - My Morning Jacket - "One Big Holiday" (2003)

This is maybe my favorite song I've ever seen performed live. I have no idea where this fits but it can sit with Hendrix in the jukebox. I think Jim James would be okay with that.

1966 - The Supremes - "You Keep Me Hangin' On"
1967 - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"
1968 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience - "All Along the Watchtower"
1970 - Toots & The Maytals - "Pressure Drop"
1971 - Bill Withers - "Ain't No Sunshine"
1972 - Stevie Wonder - "Superstition"

1973 - Al Green - "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)"
1977 - Bob Marley - "One Love/People Get Ready"
1978 - Earth, Wind & Fire - "September"
1979 - The Sugarhill Gang - "Rapper's Delight"
1983 - Lionel Richie - "All Night Long (All Night)"
1984 - Billy Ocean - "Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)"
1987 - Eric B & Rakim - "I Ain't No Joke"
1988 - Bobby Brown - "My Prerogative"
1989 - Bell Biv Devoe - "Poison"
1990 - A Tribe Called Quest - "Can I Kick It?"
1992 - Mary J. Blige - "Real Love"
1994 - Aaliyah - "Back and Forth (feat. R. Kelly)"
1995 - Mobb Deep - "Shook Ones (Pt. II)"
1996 - Fugees - "No Woman No Cry"
2000 - OutKast - "B.O.B."

2003 - My Morning Jacket - "One Big Holiday"

I was about 12 when I got into the Doors. One of the cooler older brothers in the hood was a big Doors fan and had a striking resemblance to a young Morrison. His influence had most of the jr high I attended listening to anything / everything Doors. It's a running joke among my high school friends, that didn't go to the same Jr High, that we all needed to write our 8th grade final book report on Sugerman's No One Here Get's Out Alive in order to graduate

Probably the band I've seen the most in concert. A couple of their shows are amongst the best I've ever seen.

You should link to their Conan performance of this song. Best late-show performance ever.

12.28 Creep - TLC (1994)

I've drafted this song before and I was trying to avoid repeats but Tim's snipe changes my strategy. Creep is a better song for my mix anyway and the few of you who are my Facebook friends/Spotify followers know how much I love TLC. I can also fantasize about the three of them as lesbians.

Yo Mama picks:

12.08 - Magic Carpet Ride, Steppenwolf (1968)

Classic jukebox song - my 60s songs are now filled.

12.08 - Separate Ways, Journey (1983)

My bar needs a song everyone can scream along to and play air instruments along with. Just like the band does in the best video of all time!

I saw them open up for Pearl Jam. They put me to sleep

My wife was watching a movie about them the other night. Loved myself some Chili

12.29a - Wilco - Jesus, Etc - 2002

This hit my playlist on the way into work and I started praying I had a slot for the year. Also, surprised to see this break the Wilco seal. Figured they'd find their way into this a little earlier
And since the Spoon seal has been broken.....

12.29b - Spoon - The Underdog - 2007
I love Jesus, etc. - but with consideration for years I went with a different Wilco song. Had The Underdog penciled in for my 2007 all along, but changed it right before I picked because it didn't really fit my "theme".

So in other words, love both of these tunes. He's my .50 cents for a listen.

I took "California Stars" many rounds back - which I guess technically is Wilco with Billy Bragg....

70s Gold :moneybag:

12.12 - The Things We Do For Love - 10cc (1976)

I love Ray's original version of this song, and I love it even more when he rerecorded it as a duet with Norah Jones. Ray was very sick when he recorded this, but you wouldn't know it. They sound great. Mr. Billy Preston is on the Hammond B-3.

12.12 - Here We Go Again - Ray Charles and Norah Jones (2004)

I don't know a lot about Golden Smog but I've noticed that Everytime I hear a song by them I like it.
Midwestern "supergroup" featuring members of the Jayhawks, Wilco, Soul Asylum and some local acts that didn't gain national fame.

Every one of their records is outstanding - Down By the Old Mainstream, their first full album, is my favorite but I had that year covered already.

Hadn't realized how many of my 1986 and 1987 songs have either been sniped or I have used them in my other drafts (or already used the artist in this draft).

12.21a - I Held Her In My Arms - Violent Femmes - 1986

12.21b - Where the Streets Have No Name - U2 - 1987

IMO - one of the more unappreciated Violent Femmes songs (really I feel that way about most of the stuff not on their debut album). U2 - well, I had to fit that arrogant ########## Boner into this jukebox somehow.

This is funny because I was debating between the Des'ree song and a TLC song from that year (though not the one you selected.) but I've always loved that Des'ree song.

This was going to be my next pick if the year was clear. Busy morning.

Another Beckster* band. If this song had been written a few years earlier, when I was in college, I would have been convinced it was about me. Anyway, literate, witty pop punk is kind of in my wheelhouse. For those that want to follow Dr. Frank's current career as a young adult author, I liked the first King Dork and Andromeda Kline but found King Dork Approximately disappointing.

The Mr. T. Experience -- Sackcloth & Ashes -- 1996

And I figure I'll give Frank a guy to kind of bounce witty lyrics off of. Gotta have some Moz. This is one of my favorite pop songs of this century. Should have been a big hit.

Morrissey -- First of the Gang to Die -- 2004

I will always love Even Hitler had a girlfriend. When I was a senior and alone and girl less, I would always think, Even Hitler had a girlfriend, why cant I.

He was the worst guy ever, reviled and despised, even Hitler had a girlfriend so why cant I, why cant I

I was very disappointed that this was not a 1993 song. Was really hoping to squeeze it in between Mary J and Aaliyah. But it just didn't pan out. Nice pick

Can I swoon over the first pick? Because I would. Dr. Frank. Love Is Dead. Great YA author, great punk rocker, great politico (oh, okay I supported Iraq II, also). I just...I'm speechless.

eta* Love Is Dead is one of the greatest albums ever. Dorothy Parker and Somebody's Song. I got a chance to talk with Dr. Frank and Dan Panic (who was playing with the Groovie Ghoulies) and I thanked Dr. Frank for covering Somebody's Song.

As november approaches...

All these men who work the land
Should evaluate themselves and make a stand
Can't they see beyond the rhetoric?
The lies and promises that don't mean ####

I saw them three times and they were fantastic each time. Jim James is an odd dude but damn he pulls it off. I don't know how Acer says this puts him to sleep.

Is this the Conan clip? I've never seen it before....awesome. I love how at the end Conan can only say "wow", speechless.

From what I remember, they were just sitting around playing acoustically. Maybe they didnt plug in until I was sleeping

**** I can sleep through anything

12.13

1994 - The Man Who Sold The World (Acoustic) - Nirvana

I'll get my Bowie pick with another song that when released, most in the pop music world didn't know was a cover.

1996 - Virtual Insanity - Jamiroquai

Electronic Dance-ish music doesn't normally fit into my wheelhouse. For some reason I love this song; I also love the video, the way they made it so the floor could move was clever.

What years are these from

Man of Two Worlds -- Ultravox
Heart Of Stone -- The Rolling Stones
It's All Right -- The Impressions
Tighten Up -- The Black Keys

Quick Google shows Heart of Stone from '65 and Tighten Up from 2010? Impressions from '63 and Ultravox from '84?
