DI Jukebox Draft (66-15)- Listen up (1 Viewer)

How many of you have been listening to the master playlist on Spotify? Freaking Tim, his songs stick out so much. There is just no mistaking a Tim song.
I have. Many of Tim's songs aren't the songs I like the least.
What haven't you liked so far?
Of Tim's picks? I don't know about the newer songs, but of those he's picked that I've heard often:"Soak Up The Sun"

"Smooth"

"MMmBop"

""You Gotta Be"

"I Only Wanna Be With You"

"Black Or White"

"Eternal Flame"
I meant what songs in general haven't you liked?

I'm not sure there are any. But, there have been a bunch chosen I need to listen to more, Some of the 90s rock stuff hasn't appealed to me all that much, but context means a lot too. Hearing Al Green backed by Nirvana changes everything. Make sense?

I've always tried to string together a vibe in my mixes dating back to cassettes. I can't help myself; my jukebox is picking songs by itself at this stage of the draft.

But the beauty of the ubermix is in its diversity. The transitions are always a total surprise and usually a pleasant one. If a song sucks, you can always start thinking about what's coming up next. And it'll always be a nice souvenir of this draft.

Hey ladies! How you doin?

Pick: Lay Lady Lay by Bob Dylan, 1969

Big fan of nasally Bob Dylan on Nashville Skyline

HARD EDIT: Johnny Cash did not perform on this tune.

God, I hate this song. (Yes, I remember when this came out.) It was years before I realised that Dylan wrote some great songs and that he just couldn't sing.

And I'm probably the only one here who hates "Tears of a Clown", too.

Well, the schedule says I can take my Round 15 picks, so here goes. (Besides, we need to keep SImey entertained to distract her. Hope the BIL is doing okay.)

Round 15a - I Gotsta Get Paid - ZZ Top (2012)

My only duplicate artist so far. But I do love ZZ. The rapper who did "25 Lighters" (DJ DMD) was pretty darn surprised when he found out he'd been covered by ZZ.

Round 15b - Livin' On the Edge - Aerosmith (1993)

Bring it on!

My next pick: Bring It On by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, 2003

12.02 Minutemen - Themselves 1984

As november approaches...

All these men who work the landShould evaluate themselves and make a standCan't they see beyond the rhetoric? The lies and promises that don't mean ####
In case you need my 12s for the sheetNo my friend that is not my desire

13.29 Pixies - Dig For Fire 1990http://youtu.be/n37Bdr559to

13.29 Pinback - Offcell 2003https://youtu.be/oT8b27_z84U

Next pick: I Wish I was the Moon by Neko Case, 2002
Oh, man. Love her voice, and love this song. Simple as that. I was just looking at my Neko CDs yesterday, but even though I'm not even going for a particular theme, I figured I couldn't make her songs fit into my jukebox (UNLESS~). Major props for the pick, though. Blacklisted and Fox Confessor are both fantastic albums.

I'll take this now since there was some talk on it today. I love death magnetic and the beyond magnetic ep. Hadn't listened to them at all since the post black album disillusionment. I know it's forced at times but I don't care. It's what I've wanted to hear for decades and I love it.

15.29 Metallica. Broken beaten and scared 2008

15.29 Sunny Day Real Estate - Pillars 1998

What a voice on Jeremy Enigk.

I am not saying I dislike them all. Some are fine. They just really stick out.
I'm wondering how they stick out, since they are about as mainstream as they come. I'm not trying to argue, just curious at this point of view
Most of them are covered in more sugar than a birthday cake. Just ultra pop.
"Don't Stop Believing" and - irony alert! - "Pour Some Sugar On Me" were two of your picks, no?
lol, no doubt those songs are also cheesy. However, they fit the concept of my draft. I'd also say they fit in more with the other songs in the draft than Mmmmbop and Don't Want to Miss a Thing.

I almost went with the Aretha cover from the same album, mostly because her voice shines like a guitar hero on the tune, but really this song captures her voice at once subtle and beautiful.

Should pull in a lot of quarters in the CIA dive bar.

Hold your ears Mrs. R, incoming flawed voice.

Words by Lucinda Williams, 2007
What's wrong with her voice? I'd rather she went to see a doctor to make sure she isn't developing nodes on her vocal chords using it that way, but she can enunciate and carry a (rather nice) tune.

Bob Dylan sounds like a homeless drunk with vocal chord damage.

Think I owe 14 and 15 rounds

14.29A

The Nails - Home Of The Brave - 1984

And the jukebox plays, apocalyptic beebop

This was the mystery song of my youth. Heard it on a mix tape that a friend got from a friend who got it from a friend and spent years tracking it down. Don't even know how I found it, but the group message that went out to all of my high school friends with a I FOUND IT! was my proudest Texting moment, if you can have such a thing

14.29B

Johnny Cash - A Boy Named Sue - 1969

HOW DO YOU DO?

Lou REED - VICIOUS 1972

link

Only became a fan of Transformer about 10 years ago. Great album. Can't believe I never paid much attention to it before.

MORRISSEY-IRISH BLOOD,ENGLISH HEART -2004

Round 14

New Pornographers,

(2005)Morten Harket's voice is a thing of beauty, and I love the energy on "7/4 (Shoreline)".

15.29 Sunny Day Real Estate - Pillars 1998

Remember buying the album the Tuesday it came out and was instantly transfixed by this song. It wouldn't surprise me if played it 3-4 times before I even continued on with the rest of the album. Love the cadence and feel of it. Then I listened to the rest of the album

Time to pick something from one of my 3 biggest High School obsessions. I was hooked after hearing the first couple songs on this album. Weird as hell, but #### can these 3 guys play. Don't think there was a drummer I loved more than Herb. I've seen them a bunch in concert, and they always have been great. WTF would Metallica have sounded like if Les ended up as their bassist?

15th(a): PRIMUS - Groundhog's Day (1990)

LINK

I said today's theme was love and love at a bar on Friday night is a one night stand kind of love. It's the kind of love that begins with aggressive make-out sessions in the corner and ends with an 8 AM walk of shame.

If you're horny, let's do it.

15.A

1996- Ginuwine Pony

Bonus points for the music video which starts with a dive-bar jukebox.
If I didn't have a 1996 song, this was my #2. Super dance song.

Ended up going through a window for this album. Exclusive Co. in Madison had a midnight release for Vs. I was standing right by their big window. As the doors open and people started pushing in, the window gave and I went through it. Nothing major - couple scratches and my coat got a big slice down the arm. Ended up getting some decent extras out of it and a fun story.

15th(b): PEARL JAM - Rearviewmirror (1993)

LINK

Looks like I managed to draft repeats for 1984 and 2004

So Summer of 69 and First of the Gang to Die are back in the pool.

I'll make two make up picks shortly.

Sorry, I was working off separate spreadsheets at home and work.

Well, that's embarrassing. Almost like seeing someone at the bar, chatting her up, maybe tripping the light fantastic, retiring someplace a little more private... And having awful, embarrassing sex. Just call me Stewart Ransom Miller (serial lady killer).

The Old 97s -- Barrier Reef -- 1997

Pretty sure this next one I first heard from Zilla. Something from before Laura Jane was Laura Jane

Against Me! -- Thrash Unreal -- 2007

I missed First of the Gang to Die being taken the first time, so this is me chiming in to say what an awesome song that is.

Alright so

I went to the Sabres game. They won 6-4.

There were more Habs fans than Sabres fans. #### the Habs.

The guy next to us was a Habs fan from Mississauga. I was fairly drunk. He was like 50. I asked him if he knew Northern Voice. He acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. I was like "##### please he's from the Pete".

He was all "what are you talking about"

I was all "##### get out of here" and I almost gave him a friendly slap but I thought better of it. Not tryin to fight, just wondering if he was up on the DI draft. He def wasn't.

I've been watching Flavor of Love for the past like 3 hours. Hoopz was hot as ####. New York aint bad either but Hoopz is A+. Flava Flav is a bad dude. This show is fantastic. Cat fights are so great. You know? Now there's a reunion show hosted by Lala. Is she still married to Carmelo? Who knows.

I'm really not wanting to go to work tomorrow. Flav seems like a honest dude. Straight up.
