Did the Falcons lose both of their DEs? (1 Viewer)

I know that Abraham was hurt late in the game and it did not look good at all, a lower ab or groin injury and he could hardly walk. Then I heard on the NFL Network that Kearney may have torn his tricep...I did not see that one.

Those guys were dominant yesterday. This could deal a crushing blow to the Falsons D.

I meant DST. Abraham and Kerney are the reason I drafted them. Losing both would essentially kill the heart of the defense.

Possibly.Neither injury is thought to be serious this morning, but neither Kerney (triceps strain) nor Abraham (groin pull) finished the game. The morning rags make it sound like Kerney's injury is the more concerning (status unknown for next week) while Abraham says he's fine. We've been down this road with Abraham before though and spidey senses suggest the Falcons ought to be more worried about him.

I have been scouring the web trying to find info on Abraham, but haven't been able to find anything out, but after having him on the bench last week for Charles Grant, it kind of sucked watching him get the sacks he did....

I'll be keeping my eye out this weekend for news....

Only relevant news thus far has been the re-signing of Josh Mallard, which may suggest Abraham's injury is a little more exciting that Kerney let on earlier in the week.

No official word from the team and I've yet to see the injury report.

Exciting? Is this the way we're describing injuries now?

Abraham = QuestionableKerney = ProbableI think both will be fine, Abraham may miss some time, but not more than a game.

Abraham will be fine? Excuse my skeptisism. He's almost the D Foster of DE's.

I picked up the Atlanta D - really hope these DE's play. Not excited about Carolina at MN as my other option after how they looked Sunday and Morgan's injury..

Talk on local radio is that Abraham appears to be ok and will likely play Sunday. The consensus here though seems to be to let him rest rather than risk aggravation.

Abraham was infamous for this BS when he was playing for the Jets. His pompous mug with a pulled groin in street clothes on the sidelines for a playoff game. Guy has no heart.

No link, but I was listening to Sirius NFL radio on the way home tonight and they said Abraham practiced today. I'm sure there will be more news on the wire tomorrow

Falcons | Abraham OUT for Week 2

Wed, 13 Sep 2006 18:55:42 -0700

Atlanta Falcons DL John Abraham (groin) is out for the Week 2 game and might not return until Week 5. He is listed as questionable on the team's injury report. DL Chauncey Davis will start at left defensive end.

I knew it! I saw him trying to get off of the field and he could hardly walk. It looked serious.

Thank goodness the new Jet brass got rid of him - I'll take Mangold for 16 games over Abe for 6-8 any time! BTW Falcon fans - don't expect him to play in a big game if he is anything less than 100%.

What is the source for this. The most recent I can find is posted by Fanball 9:35 pm est.
THE NEWSThe groin injury suffered by Falcons defensive end John Abraham in last Sunday's game against the Panthers has landed him on the injury report. Abraham is currently listed as questionable for Sunday's meeting with Tampa Bay, and head coach Jim Mora Jr is taking a wait-and-see approach. Abraham has "made a lot of progress this week," Mora told ESPN. "We're just going to take it day by day and see how he feels that day."

Right on boys.

No confirmable source anywhere for this. Major media, AJC, Falcons.com, nothing.

The Falcon message boarders have been scouring for nearly three hours and have bubkis. And they're :football: .

Stay tuned...

At that time, he was lobbying for a contract and didn't want to aggravate the injury. He took a lot of heat but ended up with his cash in the long run.

I either start Atlanta DST or NE DST.

I'd rather start Atlanta...but thats only if their DEs are in and ready to go.

Maybe I'll go fisihing in the WW DST pond again. :wall:

I'm intrigued to hear what owners of Abraham are doing in IDP leagues? Since it sound like most of the talk so far is speculation it doesn't sound like there is a need to over-react just yet, but if there are some better options on the WW is it worth dropping him?

Better options than a healthy Abraham? Then obviously, yes.Better options than a dinged Abraham? Depending on how consistent they are, but maybe. Abraham is in a nice situation (stacked DL when healthy, aggressive scheme); if he's got a minor groin injury I'd hold until he declares himself one way or the other. With his history of groin problems and the effects those injuries can have on the explosion and leverage he needs to make plays, I'd have a close eye on him even if he plays.

I' ve got the same decision. As good as Abe is, I think the Falcons will do alright if he sits. I think people underestimate how big (pun intended) adding Grady Jackson is to the Falcons. He is a huge dude, who takes 2 players to block. This really open things up for guys like Abe, Kerney and Coleman. If Kerney AND Abe are out, the sacks will probably be down, but I think they will still get pressure and guys like Hall, Williams, Webster and Milloy will have a shot at picks. NE looked good to, but if all is even, I like D's who play at home a bit better than road D's.

Atlanta faces the Bucs woeful offense and banged up o-line this week. Im starting them over Washington, but that aint saying much just yet.

KFFL seems to be wrong damn near half the time, IMO. I live hear in ATL and have heard (nor read) nothing like that.

I'm personally ready to give Abraham a new start hear in ATL, then I'll judge his character. Word in the Falcons locker room is that the whole team loved the guy instantly, very friendly on top of all that talent.

If the NJY showed the guy a little respect, maybe he woulda played his "heart" out for them. I think their management has been horrible, we'll see if it gets better.

One word comes to mind reading this post: Clueless

This is from today's Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Flowery Branch — Falcons defensive end John Abraham did not practice Wednesday because of a groin injury, the severity of which is not being disclosed by the team. He suffered the injury in the season-opening victory at Carolina and was listed as questionable on the team's injury report for Sunday's home opener against Tampa Bay.

Abraham was named the NFC's defensive player of the week Wednesday, but it remained unclear whether he'd be able to earn the honor a second consecutive time.

Several players said they were preparing as if Abraham would not be available. They said they were hopeful he would respond to treatment over the next few days and would play against another NFC South opponent that beat them twice last season, but they felt they would be able to maintain if he is out.

No mention of 2-5 weeks.

You claimed that you live in Atlanta. Let me ask you. Did you follow Abraham in NY?You claimed "the NJY showed the guy a little respect, maybe he woulda played his "heart" out for them. I think their management has been horrible, we'll see if it gets better." That statement in itself shows you know little, if anything about Abraham's career in NY.Maybe the "NJY" (New Jork Yankees, New Jersey Yankees?) didn't show Abraham any respect due to the fact that he missed almost every big game that they played? Maybe it had something to do with Abraham being completely unreliable, missing a good amount of games during his rookie year to pulled abdominal muscles, and playoff games in 01 and 02 and 04 due to various injuries. Maybe it has something to do with Abraham being caught for DWI/DUI.The jets never, as you say, "disrespected" Abraham. Outside of last season, a contract year(franchised), he never proved that he could remain healthy for a season and was not worthy of the large contract he sought. The Jets had already been burned by Pennington and wanted Abe to prove to them that he could be depended upon.Abraham can be a terror, when he's healthy. Look no further than last week for proof of what I'm talking about. Unfortunately, for him and yourself (if you're a Falcons fan and I'm sure you are), I think last week also proved that Abe is injury prone and cannot play a full season. The Falcons should be improved this year, and I think they can make the playoffs. Don't plan on Abraham being there. He'll only let you down.

Like I said, I'm giving him a fresh start. The NJY (thats right, I like yanks filling in the blanks) may have had a injury prone player with monster talent on their hands, but hey, DE's like him are still rare. I wouldn't think he's soft, just a little bit small to be playing in the trenches. If he keeps playing with the fire he had Sunday, I'll take him being injured sometimes, just prepare with depth at DE.

Abraham is now going to have surgery on the groin he injured in week one.

Yes - saw this

at he 9:52:00 AM John Abraham DE ATL

Abraham will undergo abdominal surgery and miss three to four weeks.

Believe me - no way he is back in 4 weeks - I would be shocked to see him back this year.

I read a great analsys on one of the Jet boards - Abe is a Ferrari - when he is running it is awesome - but when it has engine problems it takes a lot to get it back on the road. JEts traded their overpriced Ferrari for a pickup truck in Mangold - not sexy but it shows up every week and carries the weight without problem!
