We need now more than ever.   The ability to have a conversation with someone,  especially someone who you disagree with, is a needed skill that a whole generation in this country doesn't have.

The problem is... If you disagree with someone nowadays, even politely, they take it as a personal affront to their whole human experience.

with the advent of the internet, all answers available at your fingertips and most day to day communication being questions requiring answers.. do we need to converse anymore?

used to be you could learn a lot about a person, their interests, what drives them, whether or not you could connect based on talking to them.

"i don't mean to interrupt your hot dog order, sir, but i really like your ballcap and was wondering where you got it..."

is met with "lmgtfy"

instead of a potentially interesting or unusual response that sparks a discussion and possible connection.

asking questions anymore is seen as a sign of ignorance. an "are you too ####### dumb to google?" response isn't atypical. as if asking questions was a black/white interaction. it's more than that. or used to be.

why should i ask @krista4 about her broach collection when i can just google the specific pieces and learn about their provenance myself?
I need you.
