Pretty close vote so far. But who are the 11 people who say that neither one is racist? (I know who one of them is, but who are the rest?)

I don't know, but I would guess there is some overlap with the same group that says Obama is The Worst President Ever.

How long before the thought police start locking up the racists and homophobes?
Link to anyone suggesting either of these guys should be locked up for their comments?
No one suggested it. That's why I asked the question. Just seems people are getting a little carried away calling for the guys franchise to be pulled based on a private conversation recorded, presumably without his knowledge.

There are other questions that no one suggested that you also could have asked, such as: When will johnjohn and Eminence get married? And that question would have made about as much sense as your question did. The fact that no one suggested something doesn't give you the right to ask anything you want.

you don't have the right to ask questions :lmao:

Actually the question of Eminence and johnjohn getting married makes MORE sense the one sublimeone asked.

Regarding that marriage question BTW, in this one instance I agree with Eminence 100%. Let them get married. But don't let them have children.

Straw Man. To avoid confusion, I should have used the word license instead of right.

What was I thinking? Thanks for straightening me out. Maybe you could give some guidelines for approved speech in the FFA.

Tim, in you opinion, who's a worse person Donald Sterling or Roman Polanski?

Sorry but I made a promise to the mods that I would never again discuss Roman Polanski in this forum.

How was the evidence in this case obtained? The conversation he has with this women seems genuinely sincere with his sentiments. Perhaps a hint of alcohol? I doubt he knew he was being recorded. In no way shape or form to my estimation did Sterling come off as racist. His girlfriend is half black and half Mexican. If anything, he was very supportive and even uses the words "I love minorities" at certain points during the conversation. It almost seems like this woman is trying to extort him a little bit. Hopefully the judge can objectively view both parties as being terrible and just suggest the two separate.

We all make unbiased and unfair statements in our personal lives. I don't understand why what he said in a private conversation is public knowledge?. I doubt he knew he was being recorded. The guy has all the money in the world to buy a lawsuit against her. I heard an old man's intimate conversation with his girlfriend on National Television and I'm wondering, why? Even if this was an issue, why spew it across the media? Seems like a terrible reason to hijack the NBA playoffs.

I hope he keeps his team. People need to learn to let people be. If you want us to be accepting of your new beliefs, let us hold onto our old beliefs. He's old school and only was worried about race in a professional sense. There's some truths in life that no one wants to talk about but everyone ignores and the problem is allowed to slowly grow like a weed.

Let this guy have the privacy to whatever conversation he wants with his girlfriend.

Still trying to wrap my head around the NAACP wanting to give Sterling his second lifetime award.
I think he donated money.
I don't know about that, but this was a reason given for the first award in 2009:

http://deadspin.com/naacp-to-honor-noted-racist-donald-sterling-again-1568142191

Clippers owner Donald Sterling, accused of racism and embracing a "vision of a Southern plantation-type structure" in a lawsuit filed in February by Elgin Baylor, will be given a lifetime achievement award next week by the NAACP. . . .

Leon Jenkins, president of the Los Angeles branch of the civil rights organization, says of the much-maligned Sterling, "He has a unique history of giving to the children of L.A.," revealing that the owner donates anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 tickets a game to youth groups for nearly every Clippers home game.

Noting that the NAACP had made plans to honor Sterling before Baylor filed suit, Jenkins says, "We can't speak to the allegations, but what we do know is that for the most part [sterling] has been very, very kind to the minority youth community."
Exactly. He donated money (in the form of tickets).
Assuming that's all he did. Tickets for the kids are great, but I'm not sure if it's grounds for TWO lifetime achievement awards. Also, tickets seem like a team promotion, and while I know he is the owner, this could easily have been done by an employee.
3,000 @ $40 per ticket, that is $120,000 per game. I am pretty sure that decision is a very high level call.

I wonder if the gf can get charged for secretly recording someone like that? This is overstepping some serious boundaries if society promotes setting people up like this.

This guy has a long and sordid history of discriminatory housing practices and racist comments....

But the kids would need to be accompanied by a parent who would buy their own ticket and pay for parking and any concessions/programs etc

Yeah all you meanies, let us hold on to our old beliefs, like the fact that those with colored skin are somehow less than human

what a joke

Not to mention Clippers tickets weren't exactly a hot commodity. Through 2011 they had made the playoffs 4 times in 27 seasons. Running what amounts to a BOGO promotion on tickets that were very unlikely to sell is a little different than giving away $120k per game.

So is a little racist like being a little pregnant?
he is not a racist, check out the extortion thread

his biggest problem is not racism, it is that he got with a non-white sleezebag who secretly recorded his racism and played it for the world SHE is the problem

everyone should be able to whisper their hatred of minorities to their girlfriends

i am not sure why everyone is making this so difficult

(please read the entire post with the extreme sarcasm of one who is blatantly judging those defending these comments)

I agree with with this. I also don't feel bad for Rivers, Paul or any free agent who signed with the Clippers. They knew or should have known what kind of man Sterling is.

Nice, you set up the counter argument as something that was never said and call it a joke as if that accomplishes anything. The only joke is you wasting your time making things up to try to win an online argument.

I think it's pretty sad that some folks want to focus on how unfair it was for her to secretly record him. As if that's the most scandalous portion of this.

Guideline #1: When johnjohn likes one of your posts, you're doing it wrong.

So is a little racist like being a little pregnant?
Exactly....degrees of racist is beyond dumb IMO. And those wanting to focus on the chick "outing" him are rather incredulous as well. If I'm trying to figure out a guy's character, I'm looking at what he says behind closed doors over what he says in the spotlight. Pretty much a loser any way you slice it....both of them. However, the :lmao: moment goes to the hillbilly in Nevada for disparaging the "negroes" for being on food stamps and taking gov't handouts (from a gov't he doesn't recognize no less). Stealing from the gov't = "good". Receiving what's offered = "bad".

They should have done their homework...but I still empathize

Another federal lawsuit filed in 2003 by the Housing Rights Center and 19 tenants accused Sterling of once stating his preference not to rent to Latinos because “Hispanics smoke, drink and just hang around the building.” The lawsuit also accused him of saying “black tenants smell and attract vermin.”

The allegations included Sterling’s properties not renting to non-Koreans in Koreatown or African Americans in Beverly Hills.

According to the lawsuit, Sterling believed Korean-American tenants “will live in whatever conditions he gives them and still pay the rent without complaint.”

A few things:

Everyone knows that Hispanics were gifted in family structure, and you can see a Hispanic person, and they can put 20, 30 people in one home. So, you can see why he would be fairly anxious about renting to them. Conversely, Asians are inventive, and can turn a television into a watch. So obviously, he would want to rent to them. I'm a little on the fence about his feelings about blacks, however. The Blacks are gifted at worship and celebration. If you go to a black church, you see people jumping up and down because they really get into it. So I think it would be ok to rent to them as long as, you know, there were a lot of churches around.

I read this on Deadspin earlier and it made this more confusing for me. Unless it was the Clippers organization and their PR department helping the kids, based on Leon's comments, some of Sterling's actions don't seem like things a racist would do. Odd
As I wrote earlier- I suspect he's a paternalistic racist. Gives money to black causes, but doesn't see them as equal.
seems like you just described affirmative action
Yes because affirmative action applies to black people only

Wait. Is this the space where we can talk about how smoking hot his girlfriend is? I kind of want to throat punch him just for the fact that he is an ogre and got to get with her.

geez you guys are right, when you list all the people worse than Sterling, he doesn't look half bad!!!!

others that also look worse:

John Wilkes Booth

Stalin

the unibomber
