Sure it was bigger. 21 years ago involving tons of players and picks. The Herschel Walker in-season trade was probably a bigger deal and radically changed the landscape of the NFL for several years afterwards.
You really think Welker is going to start getting shut out like Randy has been? How does this affect Welker per you?Sell high on Welker in any format. He's sure (for the time being) to draw all the coverage now.

Most DB's couldn't cover Welker in a phone booth. Double coverage hurts a guy like Moss and his deep routes more than it does a guy like Welker. He'll be fine. You really think Welker is going to start getting shut out like Randy has been? How does this affect Welker per you?Sell high on Welker in any format. As a Bears fan, I am also not thrilled with this move. Tremendous job by the Vikings. It is amazing to me that they essentially offered the same sort of deal to the Chargers for Jackson, and did not get him but end up with Moss out of the deal. That is truly astounding to me.I don't see how this does not help everyone on the Vikings offense. The Vikings had to make this move. With Favre showing obvious signs of decline - compounded by Sidney Rice being out - they needed to do something. The price they're paying for Moss is far more palatable than what the Chargers wanted for Vincent Jackson. And IMO even though Moss isn't the same as youthful Randy, VJax still can't hold his jock.As a Packer fan, I'm not thrilled with this move. Particularly when paired with TT failing to get M Lynch.
Considering they only gave up a 4th rounder to get him and got 50 TDs out of him, it's a decent deal for the Patriots. This was literally probably the only move that could get me excited for the rest of the Vikings season. It was a travesty that Moss was traded in basically a salary dump by an owner selling the team in the first place. Welcome home Randy!1!111@#@ The wrong has been righted. 3rd rounder seems like a good deal for the Vikes.
The word out of Minnesota is Rice will be lucky to get on the field before the end of November if then.by the way, this could be big for Sidney Rice too. No more double coverage for him. If he comes back healthy this year, that's 3 freaks on the offensive side of the ball (Moss, Sidney, AP) WOW
Done.START THE THREAD!!!!How good would Vick look on the Vikings next season?

Me too. Tate and Hernandez are already stepping up. Moss was in the last year of his contract. The Patriots now have TWO picks in each of the first four rounds of the 2011 draft.I actually think it's a good deal for both sides given the circumstances.
Is that in the new collective bargaining agreement? Sorry...there are no comp. picks as things stand right now!And ...there may not even be NFL football next year. If there isn't, this could easily have been Moss' last productive season anyway...which would make this deal an even BIGGER steal for the Pats. The thing that bugs me most is that the Patriots might have gotten a 3rd/4th round comp pick if Moss left as a free agent at the end of the season anyways.

How bizarro would it be if the Pats traded Moss back to the Vikings? Favre all but got down and begged for the Packers to sign him before . . .
Yeah, it was funny listening to the sports radio guys Monday night/Tuesday morning on the drive home from watching the game. They were obviously trying to figure out who the hell he was. At some point they invented a narrative about him being a hard working guy who hung around rosters by sticking around on special teams, but it seemed like they were paraphrasing articles as fast as their producer could find them. In any event, my point wasn't that Ninkovic is one of the under 25 crowd, but that the Pats have totally recycled their defense. Who are the veterans they're building around? Wilfork? The old guard is almost completely recycled, and with Kevin Faulk done for the year and Fred Taylor out indefinitely, it seems like they've cleared out the guys who skated by on their talent or had a sense of entitlement, and have a legit group of young guys to work with. And with two firsts (Oakland), two seconds (Carolina), two thirds (Vikings), and two fourths (Denver) next year, they should be in good shape to move up or down in the draft and fill any holes they might have. Its been 5 years on Ninko. Turns 27 in 3+ months. This is his fourth stop.Apparently 50% of the Patriots' defensive snaps have been played by players under the age of 25. The league average is about 23%. And we saw huge plays from Chung and Ninkovic this week, which could be a sign that they're making progress.
He's still going to benefit from specific formations that rub him open.

True. Oakland got fleeced twice, giving up a 1st and only getting a 4th back. It wasn't a secret how desperate the Vikings were, I kind of expected them to get bent over a bit more on any WR deal.Considering they only gave up a 4th rounder to get him and got 50 TDs out of him, it's a decent deal for the Patriots. This was literally probably the only move that could get me excited for the rest of the Vikings season. Does the move actually hurt anyone from Minnesota? Shiancoe was Favre's security blanket so does his value drop at all?Who I think it helpsats this seasonHernandezTate - I believe the Pats think he's ready. He looked ready Monday night. Can he be a deep threat? He has the speed, but does he have the skill to track the deep ball and maintain vertical separation? We're about to find out. Vikings this seasonFavre - This is motivation enough for a guy that needed some convincing to return. Upgrade from Sidney Rice in '09Moss - Favre was his first choice QB anyhow. This could be fun. The adjustment to moving to Minny won't be tough. Harvin - He can be that underneath slot option and present mismatches without taking on the burden of the offense. Peterson - obvious Who I think it hurts:Brady - He's still an elite QB, just not necessarily an elite fantasy QB. However, Rivers is still playing at a high level without VJax because of Gates - something I didn't expect. I think Hernandez has that kind of talent and I think B Tate will be better (eventually) than any WR SD has. He'll probably drop to the bottom half of QB1s. BJE - Opposing defenses are going to dare Brady to throw deep a little more. Welker - only slightly. He's still going to benefit from specific formations that rub him open. He's still going to be a decent WR2/WR3.
Maybe it will make defenses think twice about putting the safety over Shiancoe to shut him down. I'd bump him up.Does the move actually hurt anyone from Minnesota? Assuming that either Vincent or Moss would be signed to a 3-5 year deal by the Vikings, it's not all that surprising that Vincent would be worth more than Moss. Moss is 34 and quite obviously slowing down. He has 2 years of production left max. IMO, he's already done and won't be the huge acquisition people think he is.As a Bears fan, I am also not thrilled with this move. Tremendous job by the Vikings. I'm not sure why everyone's forgetting about Gronk here. What you lose in Moss is one of the best redzone targets ever. Someone will need to replace that presence and Gronk really proved in the preseason that he's capable of being a redzone specialist. I see him as the one that gets the biggest TD bump in this equation.Who I think it helpsats this seasonHernandezTate - I believe the Pats think he's ready. He looked ready Monday night. Just entering thread, so I'll assume it's also been pointed out multiple times that a 0 in Week 4 was worse than a bye week for Moss owners. At least when a player has a bye, he can be replaced in your lineup. But I understand that having 17 starts instead of 16 theoretically can make up for some of that loss.Where have I heard this 14 times before in this thread?Do you guys think Moss plays this week? if so thats beautiful because he essentially has no bye week.
Was just going to post this, wow.Pats now have two 1sts, two 2nds, two 3rds, two 4ths for next year.

There's something else to the trade besides a 3. Something minor, but something else.
Maybe the Pats get Greg Lewis back. That would be pretty minor. This, from Peter King:

Per Adamjt13, the Moss comp pick would be a 5th rounder in 2012. Assuming those rules stay the same in the next collective bargaining agreement. That's like getting a 6th in the 2011 draft in terms of value. Not a lot.Bossman said:I'm confused....
wouldn't the Pats have gotten a 3rd rd Compensatory pick anyway when Moss was lost in free agency next off-season?
The only thing gained would be them getting the pick in 2011 instead of 2012 but that's not enuff of a difference to give up your WR1 imo.
Would have made a ton more sense for the Pats to trade for a player... Toby Gerhart or Chad Greenway would have been nice.
There had to be words between Moss and BB, after the 0 catch / 1 target game Monday night, that pushed BB to make the deal.
I can't think of any other reason. Just makes no sense.

Lynch is not Moss. And it took Minny how long to get a WR? They have had this need all year too right? We will see how this plays on the field to determine a favorite in the North.Green Bay is still up there, but it certainly gives Minnesota an edge.pizzatyme said:Sad thing for your team is that Ted Thompson is not willing to do this. They paid a modest price to get a stud player who addresses their most glaring need. My hat's off to them. They went out and aggressively addressed a huge need and have potentially put themselves in the driver's seat in the NFC. They now are one of the few top NFC teams who can run the ball, throw it and stop the run effectively. From a fantasy perspective, it's a ginormous boost for Favre obviously and I think it's huge for Moss too. He now becomes the unquestioned No. 1 WR on his team, will receive a ton of targets and get plenty of looks downfield from Favre. Plus Moss owners get him for an extra game to boot.Wow. I'm still stunned this happened.![]()

The short answer is it depends. Given the labor situation and state of the CBA, the system that we have become accustomed to may change. One of the areas open for debated between the players and the union has been free agency and how to handle it. How many years you need, what the restrictions are, whether there will be franchise tags, how they deal with RFAs, etc.Bossman said:I'm confused....
