Drafting with guppies - Part 2 (1 Viewer)

Borilla's Gorillas Shocks and Destroys Da Bearssss, Rises to Fourth Place

Borilla's Gorillas (7-6, 1,647.42 points) crushed Da Bearssss (7-6, 1,547.78 points) 166.82 - 113.38, led by Peyton Manning with 41.82 points. Heading into Sunday, Borilla's Gorillas was in front 26.60 - 22.40. That lead faded away by the end of the early Sunday games and they trailed 105.28 - 89.40. However, following the late Sunday games, Borilla's Gorillas regained the lead for good. Both Borilla's Gorillas and Da Bearssss were able to clinch a playoff berth.

Da Bearssss would be 60-83 if they played every team every week.

I remember last years thread and how funny it was so I just figured this guy was awful. After seeing this post from the beginning, I remember thinking to myself, "Wow, he actually has a pretty solid team". My new take away is: DO NOT DRAFT ANYBODY THIS GUY DRAFTS. I don't know if he's just unlucky or he the fantasy gods are delivering karma in full force against him.

OP, please keep posting these. You can call it Drafting With Guppies again or you can call it DO NOT DRAFT LIST. Whatever it is, please continue these.

Getting the thread back on track. One of the problems playing in such leagues is that some other owners land up with really strong teams too, especially when they are lucky to draw a pick early and then they get to exploit others mistakes.

For eg - last night the 1.01 owner lands up with following 6 picks as his top 6 - AP; Sproles; Peyton; Reggie Wayne; Welker; Mike Wallace

This happens because guppies take Colin Kapernick at 1.03 letting Peyton get back to the AP owner. Now this 1.01 owner is horrible himself - he drafted Harvin; Pitta and Danario although it says IR next to Pitta and Danario.... But getting those top 6 picks in a PPR and 6 pts passing TD league is just crap for the rest of us

Moral of story - when guppies make mistakes it helps other owners too
Well... yeah. Which is why you shouldn't be trying for style points by grabbing a QB late. Professionals are predictable, but the world is full of amateurs.

Honestly Sweetness, I appreciate what you do and i love this thread. Here's my diagnosis of your mistakes though- you are too aware that you are playing with guppies and it affects your judgement. Instead of taking the best talent and making the obvious moves, you act too clever because you know you know more and want to prove it. The Gronk pick was a gift. Well and good, but your couldn't have predicted it, so you can hardly take credit. He could have gone in the first round with this crew. Its like poker- the best play is the best play, even if you get outdrawn. All things being equal you should have missed Gronk (2 rounds past his ADP) and your team REALLY looks bad.
If Gronk and Witten were not there at my 5th pick, I was taking QB. I said it before, I thought about taking Ryan with my 4th round pick, but just could not miss out on Amendola as my WR2. And then in the 5th, Gronk or Witten would have been impossible to not pick. In the 6th, sure, I could have picked Romo or Luck, but again, Jordy Nelson as my WR3 was too good a value, especially with McCarthy annonuncing yesterday that he is ready to go and with Cobb having bicep issues. Of course I felt Romo or Luck would get back to me, and did not anticipate Luck and Romo both going to teams as back ups. So instead of panicking I waited and picked more value in Daryl Richardson and Miles Austin (I love Austin this year - you can call it personal preference but his PPG #s are really good especially as my bye week filler position). I do not see the combination of Vick, Cutler and Freeman to be that bad given the schedules I have looked at....I expect Wash; Phi; Atl; NO; Det and Minny to have below average to horrible pass Ds (eg - Atl has 2 rookie CBs and not much of a pass rush; NO and Wash were horrible last year; Det and Minny have no CBs that are shut down in nature erc):

For eg:

Week 1: Vick vs Wash

Week 2: Freeman vs NO or even Cutler vs Minny

Week 3: Freeman vs NE

Week 4: Cutler vs Det

Week 5: Cutler vs NO

Week 6: Freeman vs Phi

Week 7: Freeman vs Atl or Cutler vs Wash

Week 8: Freeman vs Car or Vick vs Giants

Week 9 : Vick vs Oak

Week10: Cutler vs Det or Vick vs GB

Week 11: Vick vs Was or Freeman vs Atl

Week 12: Freeman vs Det

Week 13: Cutler vs Minn

Week 14: Free vs Buf or Vick vs Det

Week 15: Vick vs Minn

Week 16: Cutler vs Phi
Yeah.

Cant fault you on much of the rest but your QBs were a predictable disaster.
I wouldn't even really fault him for those picks in the 10, 11, and 12th rounds. Though as soon as Freeman got let go, it would have been a smart move to go get Foles. The only pick that I really hated was the #1 Trent Richardson pick. However, those that picked Rice, Martin, and Foster were basically in the same boat. Injuries at WR and QB did him in and probably a lack of willingness to cut bait on guys like Richardson (x2), White, Austin, Givens and grab guys off the ww that could have really helped his team. But I wouldn't say his problem was the draft - it was likely in-season management.

So he missed playoffs?

...I just got done with the draft in that same league for this year....as always, which was my point BTW in last year's thread, picks were coming in from left field making decisions more difficult than normal because you hope the value you do pick up works out for you but your head is spinning when the Niners fan (that same lady from last year) goes and picks Collin Kapernick with the 1.03 pick....not lying it happened. Jamaal Charles fell all the way to 1.09....was so hoping he would fall to me. One player drafted both Percy Harvin and Dennis Pitta (not lying again)....

...

Unbelievable but Gronk fell to the 5th (5.11) round to me....could not resist it anymore. I had my fingers and toes crossed with 5 picks to go to me ... luckily the guy 2 spots before me is a Cowboys fan so he picked Witten and the guy before me picked Antonio Brown but he did say later he was very close to picking Gronk and definitely would have on the way back in the 6th round. Yes, this is the craziness that ensues in the drafts with guppies.

The list of records I posted weren't actually the ordered standings. I don't know how their tiebreakers work. He's tied for 4th, and presumably he won a tiebreaker to get a playoff spot.

For reference, here were the final regular season records last year:

To give a good snapshot of the league I have listed the all-play record, team, and win/loss records of all 12 franchises:

93-50 Abe's Aces 8-5

86-57 Seahawks Rock 8-5

86-57 Just Win Baby 7-6

84-59 Lockwood's Thugs 9-4

82-61 CutlerTICEEEE rockss 7-6

71-72 Steel Champs Again 7-6

73-70 Borilla's Gorillas 4-9

69-74 Da Bearssss 7-6

67-76 Da Boyz 7-6

54-89 Fumblroosky 4-9

52-91 Mama's 49er Faithful 5-8

41-102 All Hype Team 5-8

He made the playoffs so anything can happen, but he managed only 8th in the all-play ranking. He wound up with a better W/L record than 4 other teams.
He ended up losing in the first round of the playoffs.

What does this say about Yahoo!'s grading system? Don't trust Yahoo!, huh?

And, I think he is Zooplankton.
All it says is how close you followed their auto draft list. If you autodrafted with their list, you got an A+.
That's not true. I showed up 20 min late to a yahoo! draft and it was 5 rounds in already. They picked Foster, Brees and then T. Smith, Bowe and E. Decker. In the grading afterwords it said something like, "Despite spending 3 of your first 5 picks on WRs, you have the weakest corps in the league".... yea, thanks yahoo!!!

Those QB injuries weren't lightening bolts from the sky. The way Vick plays, he gets hurt and will always get hurt, only gets worse as he ages. Cutler has an improved O-line but its still not great, and with two rookies anchoring his right side it was always a very real possibility- but more importantly Cutler was never a very viable QB1 even if he stayed healthy. You'd have to have a DOMINANT team at a bunch of other positions to flourish with Cutler as your everyday QB, and his projections by basically everyone pretty much agreed with that. Freeman was a flyer, obviously. If you're gonna play the shotgun style on late QBs, you ought to get guys with higher ceilings. Vick was ok as one of several options. I ended up with Vick, RG3, and Kaep in one league... all very late in the draft. Granted even though all 3 have underwhelmed at points in the season, at least they had the potential to be top flight QBs (and have demonstrated it) if the stars lined up well for you.

Where did all the haters go? Championship game!
I see you didn't learn anything from last year's thread.

Haters forgot to post the link again this week?
I kind of feel bad for you at this point, so let me give you some honest, constructive advice: This thread went badly for you. It made you look really stupid, and we all had a good laugh about it. These things happen. The only way you could possibly make yourself look even stupider than you already did is by bumping the thread after winning a game with the 4th-highest score and moving into a tie for second place. It's not helping your case, and even if you go undefeated the rest of the season and win your guppy-league championship game by 1,000 points, the best outcome for you is to never bump this thread again and hope everyone else forgets about it.
This is a lose-lose proposition for you. If you lose to the guppies, we all get to laugh at you. If you brag about beating the guppies, we all get to laugh at you. It's like an able-bodied person entering the Special Olympics - you come out looking terrible whether you win or you lose.

I've always been afraid to create these kind of threads, because the creator of these kinds of threads should have a fear that they are the guppy drafting with sharks :)

The Light of Genesis got the fourth-highest point total this season (including playoffs) and defeated AH-187 181.80 - 130.02. The Light of Genesis has pulled off the impossible and has now won nine straight. This is a repeat performance for The Light of Genesis over AH-187, after a 143.98 - 109.88 win in Week 9. AH-187 concluded the regular season in third place with a record of 9-4. From a points per game perspective, they ranked slightly better (first with 140.82). In their only other postseason game of the season, AH-187 beat Manglers, 153.62 - 118.78.

The Light of Genesis would be 109-45 if they played every team every week.

So draft with "guppies," put together a crap team with a sub-.500 all-play record, then, having no concept of what that means, come back and essentially brag about riding a little wave of playoff H2H luck.

WINNING.

Where did all the haters who predicted I would not even make the playoffs go? Ouch. Championship!!!
Again... Championship in a league full of guppies? Brutal. Pretty sure you rode Foles to your championship... which was a good pickup, but completely has nothing to do with your draft in which this thread is based on, and which was your original point.

Playoffs are a crapshoot, anything can happen. The fact that your season with the team you drafted, you had a 47% all play record, shows that the team you drafted was sub par, and that is not debatable.

CHAMPIONSHIP!

Keep hating to all the losers!!!
Funny how you disappeared from here the whole time your team was sucking too, then show up flexing. I get that you're trying to get people to hate you, but it's getting old. Curl up in a ball and wait and see if the bears win next week so you can rush to your computer to brag about that too.
