[Dynasty] 2023 NFL Draft Class (2 Viewers)

This is interesting… 1st I have read such a statement

My Michigan network swears that Stroud's game isn't going to translate to the NFL and won't be able to rise to the occasion when the chips are down. However Stroud ranked fifth nationally with a sterling 70% completion rate in “close and late” situations,
He sure looked good against Georgia in the playoffs. He was probably the best player on the field that day.
Of course a Michigan network would have something negative to say about Stroud. That doesn’t mean squat.

What a load of TE's and RB's:

Jeremiah also has 13 RBs who have grades in the first three rounds — starter-level players, based on his grade.

Jeremiah goes on to say he has 11 tight ends with a top three rounds grade on.

For RB, I'm guessing that these 11 made the cut...

Bijan
Gibbs
Charbonnet
Spears
Achane
Miller
Evans
Tucker
Roschon
McIntosh
Bigsby

Two more.... most likely from Gray, Abanikanda, Chase Brown, McBride, Vaughn, or Hull. I would be interested to know where he drew a thick line in that group. I'm interested in all of them if they fall into rnd 4/5 of rookie draft.

For TE....

Kincaid
Mayer
Musgrave
Washington
Kraft
Laporta
Schoonmaker
Durham

Best guess for three more, Whyle, Latu, Davis Allen. Maybe Strange, Kuntz, Mallory, some other TE from the Dakotas that's off my radar.

As far as I know he puts out a top 50 list and majority of these RB's are probably in the 51-100 list so we'll probably never know and that top 50 list he has put out had the top 3 names. I know from some of his comments about Spears and Achane would make them locks. I don't know about the rest but his podcast partner Bucky Brooks has had some good things to say about Abanikanda and McBride.

Davis Allen made his top 50 list and he's had a lot of positive things to say about Whyle so I'd say they are both locks.

The TE position in the 2023 Draft is the best tight end group in 10-years, according to NFL Network Draft expert Daniel Jeremiah.

Yeah, I am ignoring the WR group this year. It's just weak compared to the TE's. I'm in a 1.5 PPR TE league for TE and I'm focusing on Mayer, Kincaid, and LaPorta.

Never focus on TEs, you will be disappointed, unless you have a lot of patience. I’d rather trade for one.

Paging @Anarchy99 for your thoughts on this Tweet:

#Patriots pick 14 thoughts With Jakobi Meyers to hit FA and reportedly seeking 15-20m a year, theres a good chance he lands elsewhere leaving Pats short on WR talent.

With pick 14 if #Patriots go WR I think they will go with the best route runner/separator as Parker fits the X mold.

The best 3 fits for need: Jordan Addison, USC Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Ohio State Zay Flowers, BC (local guy Patriots have gotten to do plenty of HW on)

As much as I love a WR selection here it's more of the Patriot way for them to go CB or OL. Not to mention Bill has had issues drafting WRs with his earlier picks.

I still think BB would go OL or DB over WR. NE more likely to trade for an establish receiver than draft one early IMO. The one guy I know they really like is Flowers, but 14 is likely too early. I’ve also heard that this year’s WR is weaker than last year, so 14 probably isn’t the place to take someone that probably doesn’t have a Top 15 grade. At least that’s what I’ve heard.

If I had to guess, assuming BB doesn’t trade down, they go OL first and trade up back into the late first / early second for Flowers.

There is also an undercurrent among some beat guys that Marcus Jones will be “that guy” at WR moving forward. To that, I say maybe at some point but probably not.

I think they will do what they did for Parker. Find a guy with a couple of years on his contract and trade for him. One day I will comb through the WR contracts to figure out who they could target.

Of course, Bill could always trade down to add more picks. If there was a player still on the board that another team had a man crush on, we already know BB would happily drop down 10 spots for an extra 2 and a 4. Then they might go WR / OL / DB with a late 1 / 2 / 2.

The other point on Jakobi Meyers that made me chuckle was beat guys here thought NE could re-sign him for 3 years / $20M. I've been comparing him to Christian Kirk for awhile now (their numbers were pretty similar). Kirk had 236-2902-17 for the Cardinals. Meyers had 235-2758-8 for NE. Kirk got 4/$72M from the Jags. Meyers is considered the best option in a weak class of WR in free agency. He will price himself out of being able to come back to the Pats (unless he wants to give NE a sizable home town discount).

Every team, every GM.
Incredible resource.

Ever wondered where NFL GMs like to focus in the draft? C/o

we put together a deep dive into where GMs have historically allocated draft capital.

Studying how a General Manager uses their resources can be very informative to how a front office operates and what traits they may covet. GMs that prioritize younger players, and premium positions more so relative to their peers are often exposing an edge to gaining superior personnel. This data can also be very beneficial when exploring upcoming drafts in terms of mock drafting and draft props.

Most notable is example is the current hype and draft odds for the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills as the favorites for drafting a RB in the first round. Given how these front offices have operated historically we can see they pay attention to positional value and it’s unlikely they would spend high capital to a position that will not have the threat to drastically improve their teams chances of winning.

TAKEAWAYS

  • Eagles GM Howie Roseman has clearly seen an evolution in his more recent drafts in rounds 1 and 2. Prior to 2014, Roseman only used 22% of his top two round picks on premium positions but since then it has jumped to 71%. Jordan Davis last season is the only first round pick by Roseman, since Fletcher Cox in 2012, who was not considered a premium position.
  • Browns GM Andrew Barry has drafted the youngest overall players, weighted by draft capital (21.5 years), in Rounds 1 & 2 among active GM’s.
  • Carolina GM Scott Fitterer has only led two drafts but he has been extremely heavy on premium positions and highly athletic players. In fact, among his nine top four round selections, none posted a RAS under 8.4. Among his 17 drafted players, only one player posted a RAS under 6.0 (6th round Guard Deonte Brown in 2021).
  • Buffalo has only drafted 1 Offensive player in the first round under GM Brandon Beane, but sticks to premium positions in Round 1&2 ranked 4th among GM’s.
  • Ravens GM Eric Decosta has cared the least about positional value when drafting, has spent under 50% of capital on premium positions.
  • Brad Holmes (Lions) surprisingly has the highest % of capital spent on premium positions (76%), but has only been a part of...

A couple months ago, ESPN’s Todd McShay claimed Jalen Carter had “character issues” that could affect his stock.
Yesterday, it was revealed that this past season, Carter paid for his teammate Weston Wallace’s meals with his own scholarship money.
Wallace is a walk-on so he doesn’t eat for free like the rest of the team. Carter heard about this and didn’t want to let that happen, so he contributed his own funds to feed his teammate everyday.

I think apologies are owed to Todd McShay.

Jalen Carter was reportedly present at the crash that killed a teammate and a Georgia football staffer in January, drove off, and misled police about it when questioned. https://wp.me/pbBqYq-cxRu
