[DYNASTY] Is Jonathan Stewart a buy low? (1 Viewer)

the window is WIDE open for this guy to be a major piece of the fanasty landscape. How hurt is he?? thinking of buying, super, super low.

Does it matter? Take a gander at this inevitability. The list isn't as long as one may think, but essentially none of those injuries are dings. It's high grade sprains and tears across the board.

Panthers keeping tabs on status of Jonathan Stewart, Fozzy Whittaker

After losing running back DeAngelo Williams to an ankle injury Sunday against the Ravens, Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Monday the team will look at a few free agent running backs as an "insurance policy." However, Rivera noted Fozzy Whittaker might be ready to return from a thigh injury Week 5 vs. Chicago.

Rivera added he expects Whittaker to practice Wednesday, but he was not as certain about the status of Jonathan Stewart, who also sat out Sunday with a knee injury. Darrin Reaves is in line to start at running back against Chicago.

Even so he has a decent playoff schedule (Browns week 16) and a bye week 12.

Rotoworld:

Jonathan Stewart rushed 14 times for 55 yards in Carolina's Week 7 loss to the Packers, adding a 12-yard reception.

Active for the first time since Week 3, J-Stew out-touched backups Chris Ogbonnaya and Darrin Reaves 15-4. Stewart will remain the Panthers' clear starter for as long as DeAngelo Williams (knee) is sidelined, but won't offer more than RB3/FLEX value.

Rotoworld:

Jonathan Stewart is set for an expanded role Sunday with DeAngelo Williams (finger) in doubt.

Williams has a fracture at the base of his middle finger and has been listed as day to day. The Panthers should be giving Stewart the lion's share of the work anyway. Stewart is averaging 4.25 YPC on the year compared to 3.47 for Williams, and Stewart is also tied for fifth in the entire league in yards after contact per attempt. He's flashed some of the early-career form that once made him one of the better young running backs in the league. If Williams ends up inactive against the Saints Sunday, Stewart would have some flex appeal.

I'm in a salary cap league and I wanna drop either him or Bernard Pierce. Both are overpaid on my roster. I don't know which one to drop. Pierce seems to be a flash in the pan and can't seem to hold on to a starting job. But he is only 24 yrs old. J-Stew has shown ability but is going to be 29 I believe. I'm leaning towards holding Stew, but I'm second guessing myself because we've all been bitten by Stew for years. I just can't justify keeping Pierce though since he always seems to go the wrong way on depth charts.

Stewart is still only 27 and has actual weekly value right now, unlike Pierce. I have Pierce in a lot of leagues, but the last two years have not been kind to him. Unless someone looks like an elite prospect, I'll typically take the guy who's useful right now over the guy who might be useful in the future.

This story hasn't gotten much attention this season because this backfield has been irrelevant in FF and the Panthers have been terrible, but it looks like a pretty good scenario is finally unfolding for Stewart. Williams has been ineffective and appears to be fading out of the picture (even before the injury). Stewart has played reasonably well and is poised to finish the season strong. With Carolina being so terrible, they might be an underdog to use a high pick on another back this year, which means you could see Stewart as the clear opening day workhorse next season.

That's all contingent on him staying healthy, but we might finally be seeing a bit of a payoff here. With McKinnon out, I'm actually starting J-Stew in one my most important games of the season. Let's hope he doesn't sprain his ankle on the third play of the game.

it is a special time of the season right now the kids are looking out the windows for raindeer and the young ones still believe in santa claus and at the same time a bunch of novice fantasy football players believe that jonathan stewart will ever amount to anything more than a steaming pile of elephant poop and pee mixed together i love the holidays take that to the seasons greetings bank bromigos

I have both and would sooner part with Pierce than Stewart, despite the difference in age and injury history. Pierce hasn't looked good at all the past two years and a journeyman ran away with the starting job.

Could be fool's gold, but this looks like a breakout game for Stewart - lined up to carry the full load against a Saints defense which is 30th in YPC allowed.

15 carries 54 yards 1 fumble

3 rec 22 yards

leaves 3Rd qtr with injured groin

almost gets a td but cam steals it

110 and 2 tds

3 catches for 20 yards

Has amazing game and panthers rely on him, keeps them in game but NO ends up winning on the back of Brees and his 400 yards 4 tds.

You must be starting him. Yeah and I am playing against him
just being realistic with the fact he is playing 30th ranked run d and he will get lions share. Have a sneaky feeling JSTEW will have monster game.

That's not realistic. You are basically saying jstew is going to have his best game in years and double his season long stats in this one game. No way does that happen

no way it happens... Bold statement before game even plays out... He had 85 rushing and 25 rec in a game Dwill played in... Only chance Panthers have against saints is if Jstew has 100 yards and 2 tds....

I don't know, he's looked pretty good to me lately. Interestingly enough though, CAR is the only team not to have a RB put up 10+ points on NO this year. NO has been unbelievably generous to RBs though, both on the ground and through the air. I mean, they've given up an average of 221 yards from scrimmage per game to RBs over the past month (That's right SF, CIN, BAL and PIT's RBs have combined for 844 yfs). Assuming he touches the ball 15-20 times I don't see how he doesn't at least have a decent game.

See him as a solid 6th starter this week (i.e. he's a flex), but I think that's conservative given how awful the Saints have been and the chance that Stewart is the receiving back even if they get behind. Big ceiling.

well brohans i said he was a pile of elephant poop and pee mixed toghether and it must have made him mad because he fired up the old composter and turned that poop and pee in to fertalizer and used it to grow a great game so well played jonathon stewart you win this round but the old swcer is a cagey veteran i will wind the next round take that to the bank bromigos

“The carries will come according to the game plan and the way things are unfolding,’’ Rivera said. “We’re not going to do things because it’s what everybody expects or thinks.’’
Of course you wouldn't...

Rotoworld:

Jonathan Stewart - RB - Panthers

Jonathan Stewart managed 73 yards on 22 carries and caught a six-yard pass in the Panthers' Week 15 win over the Buccaneers.

Stewart lost a fumble in scoring position in the third quarter, making this a mediocre fantasy performance when it could've been an excellent one. Stewart again fumbled in the fourth quarter, but thankfully recovered it. Stewart deserves to keep the Panthers' feature back job for Week 16 against the Browns, but we can't guarantee it. DeAngelo Williams (hand) is tentatively due back.

Can't believe that I talked myself into starting this guy in the playoffs.

I don't play dynasty but I don't buy Stewsrt as a big low long term. He is a situational start as long as he and Williams are both Panthers

Keep Pierce. At least he can rot on your bench and you won't be tempted to start him.

Those of us who started Mason, Crow, or even Charles over him wouldn't be whining so much over his performance.
