Electronic Cigarettes (3 Viewers)

Okay, just started refilling cartomizers with a blend made by another company, supposedly the same strength but it feels waaaaay stronger. Is that normal? Should a fresh batch of juice feel significantly stronger than a purchased cart?
There can be a big variance in strength between juice/prefilled cartomizer... typically I've found the juice to be stronger. There can also be a big variance in flavor.
Fair enough. The guy mixed it while I was there waiting, which was pretty cool. Not in love with the flavor, but it's fine - and feels like the first time I smoked a cigarette as far as the nicotine goes, even though it was allegedly the same strength as the cart I had been using.

Jim, the soft rubber tips suck, IMO. I've been using hard plastic ones and they stay on much better.
Yes, I found that the hard plastic tip that came with my tank was completely fixed into place, and actually ended up breaking in half instead of falling off. When I replaced it with the rubber one that came with the tank it was terrible, falling off left and right. The tips I got from Bloog were somewhere in the middle.

If you ever wind up with too much of a juice you think is too strong for your tastes, you can always buy a lesser nic mg of the same flavor and do a mixture (for example, if you have a bottle of 18 mg that is too strong, you can mix in 1/3 of 11 mg). I've actually been doing this with V4L because they seem to run out of the 18 mg flavors I like and so I'm sometimes stuck buying 24mg/11mg bottles and combining into what amounts to a 17.5 mg blend.

ETA: You're probably aware, but while nicotine level definitely contributes to strength, strength can also vary considerably from flavor to flavor. I've had some 18 mg flavors that give the punch of a 24 in other flavors, and other 18s that hit like an 11 mg.

I was not aware. This is the first bottle of juice I've bought, and have only been off the regular smokes for a few weeks.

I need something that doesn't taste sweet, which is apparently hard to find. Miss that tobacco taste.

The aftertaste on this tastes like honey. Which is kinda gross in my opinion.

I started on tobacco flavors with V4L, but other than Hilton none were strong enough for me, and the taste left me wanting. Sort of like the disappointment of bumming a cig from someone who smoked a different brand. I've never tried Bloog Red, but it's supposed to be a little more tobacco-like and a lot of guys here once used it. You might try coffee blends. Coffee/Cappuccino/Cafe Mocha were once my mainstays and they weren't sweet but just rich and full flavored. They were the flavors that convinced me that the taste of tobacco sort of sucks in comparison, and didn't need to be part of my go-forward ecig plans. I also can't speak highly enough about V4L Red Energy (Red Bull flavor). It's got a lot of flavor to it, but not a sugary sweet type.

Maybe some others will post flavors they are into, and describe. We've had a ton of discussion of equipment lately; the first dozen pages of this thread were predominantly flavor reviews and I got a lot of info from them..

I've been wanting to try some Vapenstein Blend from Want2Vape. If your looking to try a true tobacco flavor, they are well know for some of the best. The paris blend is supposed to be like a dirty french cigarette. I never ordered because it is a little more expensive and I've been making my own juice. I haven't bought any premixed flavors in over a year. It may be time to try something a little different. I just might order some and I'll let you know how it works out.

Here are the descriptions of the two I've wanted to try.

http://www.want2vape.com/Vapenstein-Blend_c_11.html

Louisville Blend

Burley tobacco. As American as Chevys and prom night. This is what your great grampa smoked in his pipe. It's also used in most American cigarettes, but processed into something unrecognizable. Burley has a subtle nutty sweetness to it, and can also have a musty, cigar-like note. It usually has a little bit to a lot more nicotine. I smoke English mixtures most of the time, but when I change it up, it's usually Burley. Summon the ghosts of Americana with this true American classic tobacco. No nuts. No fruit. Just pure, simple tobacco. --Dr. V
Paris blend

I've always said that cigarettes were fast burning tubes of paper that delivered a mostly steamy, ashy smoke. Of course, the best of them don't fit that description. There are a few brands that are enjoyable in the same fashion that other great tobacco is enjoyable. I used to adore French brand Gauloises, and Players Navy Cut too. I actually used to smoke the Balkan Sobranie cigarettes regularly back when they were still available.

This juice is perhaps the most collaborative of the Vapenstein Blend line. What makes this one possible more than anything else are new procedures that Donley has been developing and refining for the last few months, so the kudos go to him on this one, from me as well. Thanks buddy, you really outdid yourself.

This one is an homage to the cigarette. A really good cigarette. Whether your fancy runs toward the traditional American full flavor, or the more obscure European unfiltered, we think you will appreciate what this juice brings to the table. Enjoy! --Dr. V

**note that Vapenstein Blend Paris is This is a 5/95 PG/VG Blend instead of our usual 70/30 ratio.

Thanks. My understanding is that the JC Red Oak Tennessee is a real hand-rolled cigarette kind of flavor. Looking forward to that.

Oh, and PG-free.

I feel completely in over my head with all the battery/tank/juice talk.

I started buying the disposables, as recommended above, and it's definitely working for me - I've been buying Blu. I assume that the Blue "starter kits" are a complete ripoff and ultimately a terrible idea long term, but really need to do something simple like that where all I have to do is charge the thing and slip something onto the end when it runs out. If it's harder than lighting a cigarette, I'm sure I'll go back to smoking cigarettes instead. Are there any inexpensive kits that work like that from the places all you hep cats are using? I mean, something where all I have to do is charge it and slip on a new whatever-the-hell-makes-it-vaporize that's filled with liquid and go? Or am I just the target market for the overpriced crap like Blu?
I recommend a volt starter kit to people that want the cig style. Vapor 4 life is really good too and is used by a lot of people here. If I could start all over again I would go a little bigger and get the V4L Dial a volt (Ego style)Volt

V4L
Incidentally, can't thank you enough for this advice, man. Quite literally, I'm betting, a life saver. The Volt is just perfect for my life. Looks like a cigarette, and feels like one, so really works for my job and area - as a lawyer, I can't wander in and out of the courthouse with something that looks like a detonator. Haven't touched a cigarette since I started vaping and don't have any intention of doing it any time soon. This thread rules.

Does Red Energy give you an energy boost? Or does it just taste like RedBull?

Speaking of redbull, the other day I was using my Blu and doing cannonballs of Redbull. Kinda fun.

I found a store here in the Atlanta area that stocks all kinds of kits and parts and juice. They'll let you try out various set ups before you buy anything. They have a vapors'lounge area with 30 different flavors to vape while you are there. Pricing looks OK too.RocknRoll VaporI'm going to go try out an Ego-C tomorrow.
Awesome Vapor is alos in Cumming. That's where I get my Ego supplies. Try the Ego Twist with the ViviNova tank. That's my new setup, and it works great.
I think I'll go there Saturday and see if they have the ViViNova stuff the other place didn't have. I'm still not sure what all I need to switch over to a tank so I hope they can tell me.

There's nothing to it. Get the Ego, the Vivi Nova, and some juice. Wa la. Blast away. They'll walk you through it. Very nice people. I'm not a big fan of their juice, so i usually just get my hardware there. One place in Ga that has excellent juice is Vape-Rite on hwy 92 in Acworth. They carry the Alien Visions stuff (which I haven't tried yet), but also make a phenomenal Banana Cream, if you're into that. They are pretty expensive though (twice the price of Mad Vapes).

ETA: The Vivi Nova tank is about $14, and comes with a total of 3 coils. With a clear juice, my coils last about a week. With a darker or heavier juice, it's more like 3-4 days. The nice thing is that you can stretch out their life by just rinsing them in water and letting them dry before using again.

Quick question - is it better to fill a cart and immediately use it, or to fill a cart, let it sit overnight and then use it?

What technique do you use to initially fill a cart... drip from the top or condom method (they have youtube vids of this use of a cartomizer cap)? Overnight is way more time than needed. Dripping from the top I would allow to settle a bit; condom method I'd blast away after filling.

Actually, kind of a hybrid. I drip a few drops in and then condom it. I don't know why, but I have a much, much better throat hit today off of these than I did yesterday. Feels more like a cigarette.

Others may disagree, but I don't see the point in allowing any time if you condom method, because it causes the base of the cartomizer to be immersed. The only reason I allowed a little time for the dripping method was to make sure I didn't get a burnt taste because liquid hadn't reached the base yet. I always use condom method for the initial fill because it is the one sure fire way to know the full cartomizer is immersed. I'm curious on your hybrid... seems that would be more work than needed without assurance that the entire cartomizer is juiced. Usually it was just 1 or 1.25 caps to fully condom method fill, and when juice pools at the top, you know you are done. All that said, I drip to refill. I found condom method refilling to cause the base of carts to get gunky quicker.

In response to Hulk: LOL, no I don't think there is any caffiene in Red Energy but the flavor mixed nicotine is good too.

Are the Viva Nova single or dual coils? I found some info doing a web search and it looks like a different assembly vs. the V4L tanks. Looks like the strongest is 1.8 ohms, whereas the dual coil for V4L have 1.5 ohms.

I followed the video from the Volt website, which did both. That said, I had the sound off so there's a good chance they were saying "one or the other" and I just did both.

I am really not loving this eGo thing. It may be the "clearomizer" or whatever it's called, along with a darker juice, but I'm getting almost ZERO hit off the thing. I've been on the same "clearomizer" since Saturday and the shop guys told me they should last 7-12 days with heavy use. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but it seems like I get a better hit from my V4L KR-808 stick batteries.

ETA - At $6 per you'd think the clearomizer might last longer than 5 days if that is what the problem is...

I don't know anything about clearomizers, but was the hit better with a new clearomizer? It's possible they gave best case estimate re: light colored juices. Darker juices drastically reduce longevity of my tank carts... just 2-3 days before it's all effort/no reward and need to change cart. For lighter juices, I definitely can go 7-8 days with my tank cartomizers with little or no drop off in performance.

They didn't mention a thing about the darker juice, I got that from here. And yeah, it was wayyyyyy better until yesterday. I need the tank set up badly...

I've tried a bunch of flavors. Started first with a Cappacino and that is still my go-to. In between I tried all sorts of flavors and gave most of them along with setups to a friend who preferred them: blueberry, chocolate, menthols, gawd knows what all it's been awhile. The only other I consistently like is Dulce de Leche, which is like a milder Caramel that I also occasionally go for.

I'm referring back to wingnut's post #2491 with the pictures since I'm never sure of the terminology--but I bought one of the new tanks at my favorite local shop the other day based on this. I've also got the clearomizer.

The issue with the clearomizer is that it it seems to require more voltage. I've got a Twist battery that works with it on full power. There is also a newer model of Ego-C batteries just out that do the same thing--change voltage with the push button instead of a twist. With my old Ego-t 1000ma battery the clearomizer doesn't work as well (think that corresponds to the medium setting).

With the tank, that old battery works just fine. It seems to heat up more efficiently and creates more smoke.

Umph. Just tried it while posting and with the Twist on hugh it works even better! Nothing like some ot the mods you'l see clouding up the room or anything, but noticably increased. Funny think is that the girl I talk to still likes the clearomizer better after all this time, and wasn't so keen on the new tank. Maybe I don't take care of them the right way. I'm going to try and boil out the clearomizer now just for S&G's.

Obviously I love my tank so definitely not discouraging getting one, but keep in mind you'll likely have the same issue with shorter life of cartomizers with dark juice. I just accept that I need to change out Red Energy carts every 2-3 days, and Bananas Foster every 7. @ $2.00 (sale price) a cart it's still pretty economical. Had the same issue with Bloog carts where the darker juice gave about a 1 day great performance for dark juice, and 3-4 days for light. Difference for me with the tank is Bloog carts seemed to go gradually downhill right after the first fill, while tank carts seem to retain peak performance all the way up to when they fail.

Wait, so how many times can you use a cartomizer before it's toast? I was under the impression these things were fillable like a zippo - just use 'em over and over.

The filler in cartomizers definitely has a shelf life. If you douse and heat something over and over again it's absorbtion decreases, until it doesn't absorb at all, and what liquid was heated on it gunks it up. Think of trying to use the same paper towel to clean up spilled juice over and over again (taking heat completely out of the equation). Eventually that towel has limited absorbtion. Some people try to clean and reuse carts (i.e. by boiling them and then drying) but I've never had much success bringing them back to new performance. I just buy new blanks and toss old ones, given the price. As mentioned some liquids do better than others in terms of stretching out the life of a cartomizer. Once your intakes become harder/stuffy, or have a burnt taste, it's a sign it's time to change out the cartomizer,

OK, now I'm really getting shuked... My batteries clearly say eGo-C on them and they did tell me it's a new version. It's 900mah, I believe. I could have gone to the 1300 mah but I didn't. You're saying that pushing the putton changes something?

They are putting out more than one battery per model it seems. Never caught it before, but the Twist I have is embossed: "eGo-C Twist".

My other battery with me today is "eGo-T upgrade". All the eGo-C's are newer versions.

When comparing to the Twist my friend showed me that if you click the on-off button quickly it changes colors, with each one a different voltage. It's another multivolt version.

You dont have a variable voltage Ego, so the button doesn't change any settings. Click it 5 times in a row will turn the battery off so it doesnt fire up in your pocket. When it shuts off it will blink blue 3 times. Click it 5 times again to turn it back on. Also, when the battery gets to 50% or so the light on the button turns blue.As for the clearomizers, I'm not a fan. I bought a clearomizer once, used it for about a day and tossed it. Didn't like the taste or the hit. It gummed up fast. Didn't hold enough juice. It hit soft with not much throat hit at all, even with 24mg nic juice.Once you get a tank you should be fine.

It only takes 3 quick pushes of the button to turn mine off and on. And I'm going to get tanks for them Saturday. Thanks for the clarifications...

The clearomizer was my only one operating for the past few months and I was comfortable with it but gotta say that it was a trick to get a full hit off it. Maybe it's the juice I use (Wicked Vapor) which is pretty thick--my two local vaping buddies swear by their clearomizers and that's all they use. The tank is doing well for me so far--pretty much the same no better no worse. I'm enjoying it.

On another note--looking back through this thread the other day I realized that today is my 2nd year Anniversary!

WOOOHOOO!! Thanks--I credit you guys!

Biggest test for me came yesterday. A friend of mine ended up in the hospital in cardiac arrest. I know it sounds stupid, but any other time in my life, I would have bought a pack of cigarettes and been chain smoking while we waited for news.

I had my Volt on me in the waiting room, as I always do now, and stepped out to use it many times. The idea of an actual cigarette never even crossed my mind until just now. Didn't even occur to me.

That's just over three weeks into using these things. I'm amazed.

That doesn't sound stupid at all having been there myself--and congrats! Hope your friend is ok.

I'm looking to make that change myself. I assume "volt" is a brand name? Is this the brand I should be looking for? I need to be educated on electronic cigs...

It's the brand Trogg recommended to me here:

http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=575866&p=15393874

I've been really, really impressed with it. I bought the cheapest starter pack, and have been refilling the carts with juice from a local purveyor. Highly recommend.

It's probably less convenient than the "tank and battery" versions as far as having to charge it and refill it more, but I'm a lawyer - I can't walk around with something that looks like a detonator or a bong and use it at the courthouse. This really fits my life better.

I will say, I just ordered another battery and a set of blanks to make it more convenient. Considering one of those "pack" style chargers as well.

Thanks. He's in pretty serious trouble. Next couple of months will be a big deal.

I meant it sounds stupid to want to chain smoke while someone's having cardiac symptoms. But I know I would have without this thing.

Fully on board with the feeling--it only sounds stupid from the outside looking in. :mellow:In 1999 I was visiting my Mom for Christmas, and a week into trying to quit smoking with a patch. We got a call that my Dad had died from cardiac arrest, very likely related to his long time smoking though he'd quit by then. I went for a 5 mile walk in the snow to be alone and fetch a pack of cigarets. Didn't get 'em. Arrived back at her house just in time to see the EMT's hauling my Mom to the hospital following a heart attack. She survived another few years, but I borrowed her cigarets while at the hospital and it was two years ago before I tried quitting again.eta: You're right about the value of these ecigs. A really close friend of mine was involved in a fatal accident and almost died as well. Had it not been for these I'd probably have been smoking again too.

My grandmother quit smoking because of copd. She said until her dying day that she thought about how much she wanted a cigarette every ten minutes for the rest of her life.

It's been like that for me every time I've quit. Except with this thing.

V4L
If I go the route of V4L, which of the 4 options do you recommend and why?

The manual dial a volt. You can adjust the voltage, you have more control with the manual switch. I don't trust the automatic batteries.

If I was totally honest I would get a similar product from a different vendor. The problem is they don't have the starter kits. you would have to buy everything ala cart. I would get all from Clouds of Vapor.

Buy two ego twists 1000 mah and a charger.

http://www.cloudsofvapor.com/store/63-joyetech-ego-and-510/172-ego-twist.html

A couple packs of cartomizers.

http://www.cloudsofvapor.com/store/130-cartomizers/65-boge-cartomizers/1710-510-xl-high-performance-cartomizers-steel-18ohm.html

...and some juice.

http://www.cloudsofvapor.com/store/189-vapejuice.html

They carry Alien Visions, which everyone that has tried it loves their Boba's Bounty. In the organic section are my favorites the Vanilla Cream and Butterscotch.

For 10% the coupon code is BIGBUYER.

I ran into a friend yesterday and she started out with a volt and has moved onto the ego twist with cartiomizer tank and has been very successful quitting smoking. It would be a real simple transition with that set up. You would just need a tank and you can punch holes in those XL cartomizers to fit the tank.

I would consider this a more intermediate setup, so if you go this route please feel free to ask for help. I would make myself available if you need to skype or something since you will have to fill your own cartomizers. I would also recommend a drip tip with this setup. If you go the V4L route you you can order pre-filled cartomizers and be ready to go.

do these count as smoking (for example) on a medical questionnaire for life insurance?

For those of you with the Volts, is it better to fill your own carts with juice or buy them locally? I'm on Week 3 with my volt and just ordered some replacement carts (country, chocolate, and grape). While $9 for 5 carts is much cheaper than actual cigarettes, if I can get the cost down even more and have a wider variety of flavors, I'm all for it. How hard is it to fill them, and where should I get the juice if I do? I'm quite happy with the volt so I'll be staying with it, as I like the cigarette look and feel. TIA for your advice.

PS - I just ordered my wife a volt as well, so within a few days both of us should be cigarette free :hifive:

The VAMO is the absolute ( o Y o ). Anyone who wants a more advanced (vari-volt and vari-watt) setup without sinking a bunch of coin into a mod, I recommend this piece highly. $52 shipped, uses 18650 batteries (which I already had for the REO) and I'm using Ikenvape's 801 LR cartomizers, which are lasting roughly a week or more of very solid use for $1.75 each (if you buy 11 or more.)

It's unbelievably easy to refill the carts with juice. Order from anywhere, depending on what you like. I've got a local shop that makes it in house, so I'm trying a bunch of their flavors.

There's a video on the Volt site about how to refill them.

Usually, yes. The question is usually "do you use tobacco products" and these count as a tobacco product.
Wow--that's tough. I'd sure be willing to debate it but can't speak to how these compare to chewing tobacco rather than cigarets.

As it stands I'm at 0-nic so not an issue. What I need to do, I think--is reapply to my insurance companies for a reduction in rates! :)

I'd put NO. If they test you tell them you use the nicorette gum.
