Worst thing of the show was Lebron actually accepting that award for "Best Championship Performance." His narcissism knows no bounds. For God's sake give someone else a moment especially when you have no business winning it.
While we're on the subject: How does the woman who scored the hat trick in the first sixteen minutes of the World Cup Final not even get a nomination?
I think nominations had already been made prior to the women's world cup. I assume that means she's eligible to win next year.

A lot of people seem to view courage as an absolute. An act is either incredibly courageous, or it isnt at all . I think there are differing levels of courage. Yes, it takes courage to come out publicly as trans. This is not as courageous as a soldier going to war or someone running into a burning house to save some kids IMO, but it's still courageous on some level.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but the team won for Most Outstanding Team.

Right. You can find all of these things to be equally true.

* what Jenner did is courageous

* what Lauren Hill did was courageous

* what ESPN did was a completely shameless money-grab

There doesn't have to be an absolute here.

I guess since Caitlyn Jenner does not wish to be Bruce Jenner any more, then I'll be Bruce Jenner!

Did I kick butt in the '76 Olympics or what!!

Had to do some googling, looks like I was a bit mistaken - I can't find a specific date as to when nominations were finalized and voting began, but the earliest articles I'm seeing about it are June 24-25. This would be a couple weeks into the womens' world cup, but a couple weeks before the final game on July 5.

Question for the people who insist on calling her Bruce even though she prefers to be known as Caitlyn- do you do that with other famous people? Like do you call Jamie Foxx "Eric Bishop" and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar "Lew Alcindor"? If not, why not? If so, congratulations- you're the worst.
If you don't get the difference, you're an idiot. And I call him Bruce.

But you probably had that figured out.
I guess I'm an idiot. Can you explain the difference to me? I'd appreciate an education from someone brighter than me.
Oh I don't know. The fact that he changed his name to a female name because he now wants to be considered a she but still has a penis and the others didn't. Maybe that.

Glad I could help.

So changing your name to avoid the draft is better?

@CraigSJ: You think that 40% trans suicide rate is nuts until you put someone trans on national TV for ten minutes and see how people react.
40%?

I wonder what percentage of them were married twice, had several children, were over the age of 60, and stood to make millions of dollars off of there transition?

As I've said before, I really feel bad for the bullied high school kid (male or female) who is having gender identity issues but this girl/guy? I could care less and I'm tired of seeing him/her.

Also, I would feel different about Jenner if during the Sawyer interview, he/she said that they would donate 100% of any money made off of the transition to charity.

I don't think it's in good taste his much money is being made off of this.

So your position is that if people change their name because they want to get more acting jobs, or signify their religious beliefs, or hide their religious/ethnic heritage, or assist their Heisman Trophy campaign, or sell more rap albums, those wishes should be respected. But if they have a penis and they want to use a name that's normally reserved for women that wish should not be respected?

Is that accurate? If so, why is that your position?

Do you think maybe its possible that the bullied high school kid who is having tender identity issues might be comforted by seeing the person you're tired of seeing being publicly accepted as transgender and honored for her courage? Do you think it might even be possible that Jenner's appearance and the content of the speech saved lives? Because it seems more than just possible to me; it actually seems pretty likely.

It's not that complicated. His name is Caitlyn.

Thanks for looking that up. Seems like it just comes down to timing, but it just seems goofy.

I feel like its gone beyond the point of "any attention is good for the cause". I feel like the Jenner situation makes it that much tougher for the next person to do this......the one that doesn't get the Vanity Fair cover story, TV interviews, or reality TV show.

I prefer to treat any individual like any of the other 7 billion people on the planet.....I don't give a flying F what you do in your private life. Making a spectacle out of this brings far more negative attention than positive to the "cause".

"I just can't take this anymore"

/doesn't flip on one of 500 other channels
That's a dumb remark.

Do you change the channel for every commercial?
I change the channel for every commercial about which I think "I just can't take this any more" or even "I'm tired of seeing this." Even if it's only 30 seconds long. I'd certainly do it if the commercial was several minutes long.

Of course it helps the overall cause and the bullied HS kid but it's tainted by all the money being made.

Jenner could have made awareness and done good things without making a buttload of money.

I change the channel as soon as I hear the voice from that McDonalds "Summer break" commercial. Can't stand that "you know who deserves a break? Everybody!" bs. :hot:

Tell me more about your TV commercial viewing habits.

Let's say you are cooking and have the TV on. A commercial comes on that you'd prefer not watching.

Do you really risk overcooking your bisque just to go change the channel?

Were you cooking or during something during a 10-minute speech where you couldn't flip the tv off? Don't know how this compares to a commercial that is 30 seconds long.

So your argument is that we shouldn't do something that likely will save lives of high school kids who are contemplating suicide if those efforts are "tainted" by profit?

What do you think could have been done to raise awareness and demonstrate acceptance without involving the media (and therefore profits)?

Caitlyn is not a guy's name.
Setting aside the fact that "Jamie Foxx" sounds like a low rent female porn star name ...

Is the rule that you will respect a human being's right to choose/change their name only if its still a known/common name for people who share what you consider to be their gender?

Does that mean you call him Eldrick Woods because "Tiger" is a zoo animal's name?
Great job by you today! Even dooshier than usual.

All you idiots arguing allowed almost an hour to go by without this fantastic reference popping up.

See my point about donating 100% of the money Jenner is making to charity.

Jenner can still be a great ambassador for the issue.

Did anybody actually watch the show or are they just here to argue about Jenner?
I watched it. But I'd estimate that 90% of the Jenner hate on my Facebook page over the last 14 hours is posted by people who didn't watch it. It's the same people who post that God is going to punish America because we as a country are vilifying the LGBT community less and less. We need to vilify them to keep God happy. If we had a volcano we should throw one in every day to keep him happy.
