**Fake Scarcity Mixtape Draft #1: Tuesday picks 12 & 4PM EDT (3 Viewers)

Mick Taylor "Leather Jacket"

Solo act (Rolling Stones)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGnkAHXO87k

I discovered this on iTunes a few years back. All of my favorite Rolling Stones albums featured Mick Taylor as the second lead guitarist, so I was eager to see what else he had done. Turns out that in 1979 he released his own album, and the lead song "Leather Jacket" was about Mick Jagger. I fell in love with it and it's stayed pretty high on my playlist ever since.

9.12 - Fire on the Mountain - Marshall Tucker Band (Category: Nuclear Family - Toy and Tommy Caldwell)

Here's another South Carolina band. I almost chose a MTB song for a flute solo. They played three weeks ago at Merlefest, and they were a lot of fun. David Gray, the lead singer, is the only original member left. The Caldwell brothers passed in '80 and '93. I love the pedal steel in this song, which is played by Toy Caldwell. He was also the bands primary songwriter and lead guitarist. He sang lead vocals on Can't You See. Tommy played bass.

The United States of America - The Garden of Earthly Delights

1968 psych rock, a little dated but I think it's got a badass, sinister sound. A good lead track in what's looking like a chronological playlist for me. Also, with the geographical categories, why not snag these hippies?

Lady parts

9.05 - Fall Out Boy - "Saturday" (days of the week)

Showing my age here, but Take This to Your Grave is still one of the most influential albums of my music life. Seems kinda silly to say because it's now considered old pop punk, but it'll always have a special place in my heart. Look at those teenage girls freaking out in the live show. #### it.

12 years later, this song is still a staple of their live shows and a cult classic fan favorite. While Googling for a good live version (linked above), I found this hilariously ####ty grainy video from a show in Buffalo that I attended in 2003. They were the first opener of the night, I can't even remember who headlined. I think this was my first live show without a parent present, as my buddy had gotten his license not long before this and drove us to the show. Patrick Stump looks like he's like 12 years old and 50 lbs lighter in this. Pete Wentz climbs the amps (everyone used to climb the amps at Showplace) and fails miserably in his screaming segment of the song.

8.6 "I Gotsta Get Paid" - ZZ Top

I couldn't let Texas go unchosen- not with all the music greats who come from here. I love their cover of this rap song by Houston rappers DJ DMD, Lil Keke, and MC Fat Pat.

9.16 "My Sharona" - The Knack

This was number one on the Billboard charts for seven weeks. It still does it for me.

I tried to find something from the past 20 years but I just couldn't (I'm getting so old). So I went back to 1972 and found two I liked and that sort of fit my mix. Here's my 2nd choice. (and a horrible lip sync on the Mike Douglas Show)

8.01 Go All The Way - The Raspberries - (Top 5 Hit)

9.01 Second Wind - Todd Rundgren (Category - Team Name - Cyclones/Iowa State)

Hard not to go with Todd at least once a draft - I mean 45 years of material makes for lots of choices.

Old rocking chair
It beckons you like a junkie's needle
Start thinking feeble
Cowardly lion
The special today is karma yoga
Glued to the sofa

Where was I when we lost power?
Where was I when lies were spoken?
Where was I when evil snuck in?
Where was I when hope was choking?

A spy in the house
Someday one of the kids may catch us cussing
Then turn us in
Family ties
They used to be colors in a rainbow
Now we fly solo

Give me back the passion flower
Give me back the nonconsumer
Give me back my lack of reason
Give me back my sense of humor

Blow like cyclone my second wind
Blow like typhoon my second wind
Blow like tempest my second wind

Blind by design
I've gotten the hang of not resisting
Who cares who's listening
Popular press
And we've got the video and the movies
Let's feed the zombies

Now that I know what to fight for
Now that I need more adventure
Now that I have thoughtful patience
Now that I can see the future

Put your hours in and take your pay
Like there wasn't any other way
Then I heard a voice inside me say
It was twenty years ago today
When did I get so tired?
Did I wake up half-sleeping?
I can't life slip away
To a world with no meaning

Who's the other holdout on Country?

If I was going in a different direction I might have gone Burundi, but tons of good countries left.

Pissed that Brazil was taken though.

Countries:

Canada

Australia

England

France

Wales

Sweden

Ireland

Brazil

Scotland

Nigeria

Italy

Germany

Denmark

Iceland

Norway

South Africa

Spain

New Zealand

Scotland

I think the Google sheet and the Spotify Uberplaylist are up to date. 4 songs out of 183 aren't available there (Ferry, Super Furries, Family Cat & Dieselhed).

There are so many good choices that I am considering taking one for my wildcard spot.

I will likely have to repick both of those, just for my own mix.

but I wanted to put them both out there- especially the Dieselhed.

9.07 - And Your Bird Can Sing - Guadalcanal Diary - US State - Georgia

Cover of a Beatles song by an alternative 'jangle pop' group from Georgia in the era of early R.E.M.
Nice to see Guadalcanal Diary get some love. They were a good band.
Wow! Thought I was the only person in the world who had ever heard of them. They had interesting lyrics to their songs, fun to see live, and Murray Attaway can really sing.

I had their first three albums. I was in college at the time, and they were played on college radio stations, and they toured the college circuit. REM seemed to overshadow them, but I thought GD was a better live band than REM.

10. Randy Newman "Short People"

Popular song

Reached #2 in 1977 before some angry little people didn't get Randy's sense of humor and started a backlash. But it's a brilliant song. Don Henley and Glen Frey provide harmonic backup vocals.

9 Cubs in Five - The Mountain Goats

The linked video of 2013 Newport was when I first learned of this group. They stuck with me because I am a hapless Cubbies fan. :D

The Buccaneers found their success, the Cubs have not. I don't know if he ever loved her again.
