Favre didn't look like he had any fun last night (1 Viewer)

I think he's really going to regret this comeback. He reminded me of the Giants game in Green Bay a few years back when he quit the first time. He wasn't out there slapping hands and smiling at all last night. Obviously he got away with skipping camp last season with not ill effects, this year not so much. He looked particularly bad on that pick (although it should have been a PI). Next week they get Miami at home which is no sure thing. Then Detriot, followed with the Jets and Cowboys. This team is probably going to be 1-4 or 2-3 at best heading into Green Bay in October.

Anyone else get the feeling they are looking like a .500 team?

He definitely looked like he had a case of buyer's remorse. At first I thought it was the ankle, but he moved around pretty well. I just don't think his heart is in it.

Agree, and I'm not one that cares one drop about the drama that has been around Favre regarding retiring/not retiring. I really enjoy watching him play because of his passion and joy he brings to the game. Last night he looked different.

He misses Sidney. When the saints changed up the coverage on Shiancoe he had nowhere to go. Harvin isnt a #1 WR, yet and berrian camarillo etc are just dudes.

First, the Great One from Down Under never quit againt the Giants. That's a lie and you know it.

Second, he was in a dogfight for his football life last night -- sorry he wasn't drawing smiley faces on his clip board and dancing around to hip hop like you want him to.

Never mind that Brett said the EXACT same thing last year week 1 and you're really taking it out of context, but don't let facts get in the way of how you feel. Oh what a difference a loss makes. Do we really need another Favre thread with zero actual information? Mods please lock or merge a few of these.

Completely disagree. This team still has a ton of talent and their defense did hold a very potent offense to 14 points last night. Harvin missed almost all of training camp and Camarillo wasn't there either. Camarillo showed some flashes last night so give Brett some time to work with these two they will be allright. Despite last night's game they still are a strong playoff contender.

What does last season have to do with anything? I am talking about this season.

You're weird.

I simply speak the truth and to quote Jack Nicholas some people can't handle the truth.

I used to be a big Favre fan and supporter but he's jumped the shark and become a complete joke. He'll still be remembered as one of the best when he hangs them up but all the drama is just too much already. I just have a feeling Minn is going to be a bit of a trainwreck this year.

I this isn't shtick, it is beautiful.

They look like a sub .500 team? :lmao:

Favre played like hell, no WR stepped up yet, and the play calling was abysmal.

Despite all that, they were in contention until the very end against the defending SB champs, on the road.

That defense alone is going to keep them well above .500. You won't see the Saints held to 14 points at home again all year.

I agree with this.If I were a Vikings fan, I certainly would not be calling it a year after that game.

A lot of MN vikings fans are fair weather and bandwagoners. amd I've seen it in person.

A lot of Gunslinger from Down Under fans know that he'll be back next week to take names and carry the team to a 10 win season at a minimum.

;) They lost by five to the defending superbowl champs on the road and without their main WR. Way too much is being made of this.

Yeah, I got it back in August and caught hell for it.

The only time he looked like he was enjoying himself was when he threw the TD to Shank and he was laying on the ground fist-pumping (careful).

My wife, who knows little about football but has very high social intelligence (reading people, body language etc.) even said that he didn't look like he wanted to be there.

If they have some success early (1st 4-5 weeks) he will find his mojo. If not, he will gut out the season because he probably feels like he has to but it will be sad to watch an unmotivated 40 year old getting pounded by DE's.

I was thinking the same thing while watching the game last night. He looked like he was not having fun last night.

Riiight and you had to make another thread about how you're going to take the results of the first week when defenses are always ahead of offense and use it as your in to say, "I told you so, Brett is terrible along with the rest of the team." Doesn't matter that the performance yesterday and his arrival to the team pretty much mirrors last year and he had a pretty amazing season. No links, no actual analysis, but you feel so important you just had to share with the world your gut feeling even though a bunch of other threads exists that are made up of the same thing. Oh, but poor baby wasn't the OP, and to have his garbage analysis mixed in with the rest of the knee jerk reactionaries could make his post of trash logic anonymous, and that would leave him still feeling impotent. Boo-hoo.Really is this going to be the theme of the Shark Pool? A million, "Favre is terrible, because I think so!" threads?

Well that definitely settles it for me! Brett Favre clearly hates football and Minnesota will be lucky to win 5 games this year.

On a related note, my neighbor's lawn guy, who knows nothing about football but has an acute fear of birds, says the Eagles are scary this year. I don't know if he meant "scary good" or "scary bad", but I'll keep you guys posted!

Actually I was at the game behind the Vike bench and the body language that caught my eye was Tavaris Jackson's. He looked removed from the whole team and even the QB/coach sideline discussions that backup QB's often join in on.I disagree with those who say Favre's mobility looked good. He had huge swaths of territory open to him and the Saints did nopt have to worry about him running through it. On the sack he basically just moved backwards. Not good. The fact is Favre started the year the same way, but against much lesser competition. I think Favre's more than a pro, he's a Hall of Fame pro and there's likely nothing wrong with his attitude. But there is a big difference between starting the year vs. the far easier sled he had last year vs. this year facing the Super Bowl champion, a a playoff hopeful in Miami, then 4 Super Bowl hopefuls in succession in the 1st 7 weeks (DET squeezed in between).Last year it was: CLE, DET, SF, GB, STL.

Love how last year Minny was the favorite and it was a fluke that the Saints won. If not for that overtime...Now this season it's "they took the defending SB champs to the 4th quarter!" heroics. What a difference a year makes. From big dog to scrappy underdog during the course of back to back losses to the same team.

No didn't mean the Czar, I meant Jack Nickleson the Lakers fan.

I humbly apologize and hope you can see it in your heart of infinite Jack related knowledge to forigve me.
Dude, when you come off as smug, you get no room for error. You goofed, just laugh it off and move on.I offer that as one often accused of being smug.
I was actually apologizing, since he seems to know a lot more about Jacks than I do. So I mean it... I am sorry.

I called for an 8-8 season when the coach abandoned all dignity and team unity to make a disgusting display of pursuing Favre. Placing one player on a pedestal above all others is not what great teams do. The only way they keep this team together is by winning, and they are now one game in the hole. Only one game, but still.

No. You should officially change your FBG board name to Chicken Little.

You my friend are a db (not the position in the defensive secondary). I was not saying that she was predicting a bad season for the vikes. Just that it was clear to someone who doesn't follow football closely that he looked unmotivated. She's certainly not the only person who had the same observation.

I think the Vikings defense did a good job considering they were starting a guy at safety who had fasted during training camp in observance of Ramadan (sp?). They didn't have any real spectacular plays but after that first NO drive they settled in. From what I saw they were wrapping up the NO wr's shortly after the catch. If favre can get into a better rhythm and Chilly can remember ADP in the 2nd half the Vikings can still be a playoff team IMO.

1 strong game where things click, maybe next week and he'll be hopping around, happy go lucky, just like the Farve we know... You can't help but expect him to be disappointed when he has no one to throw to.. Hopefully they get a good weeks worth of meeting and practice in.

The conspiracy theorists in me wonders if Childress knew Rice would need surgery and that's why he had to rush to get Farve back before Brett knew otherwise he would never come back. I know thats quite a stretch, but just wondering...

Wow way to go out on a limb a Bears fan predicting a Vikings demise. Look I hope the Vikings miss the playoffs but that just isnt realistic, there is too much talent on this team even for Childress to screw up. Their offense will get better and the defense will keep this team in all games.

I saw him smile big and spring up when he threw a TD pass, and a couple times I saw him spank players on the butt. I think you are looking for drama where there isn't any. He had game face on a lot, but so did Drew Brees. Other than the last play of the game, did you see Drew Brees look like he was having a blast? They both wore game face, and it was a close game.

:lmao: He is not going to look like he is having fun when they were playing poor at times...or when he is hoping the defense will get the ball back at the end so he has another shot at it.No QB would.

Other than AP, where do you see the talent? They aren't any more or less talented than most teams in the league. Look anywhere in the NFL and there is talent. The defense let PT rip them up in the run game. Look at this series

# 1-10-NO 40 (14:43) 23-P.Thomas left guard to NO 46 for 6 yards (52-C.Greenway).

# 2-4-NO 46 (14:05) (Shotgun) 9-D.Brees pass short right to 12-M.Colston to MIN 44 for 10 yards (56-E.Henderson). Pass 4, YAC 6

# 1-10-MIN 44 (13:26) 23-P.Thomas left guard to MIN 37 for 7 yards (26-A.Winfield).

# 2-3-MIN 37 (12:44) 23-P.Thomas left guard to MIN 33 for 4 yards (56-E.Henderson, 93-K.Williams).

# 1-10-MIN 33 (12:05) 23-P.Thomas right guard to MIN 32 for 1 yard (94-P.Williams, 69-J.Allen).

# 2-9-MIN 32 (11:19) (Shotgun) 9-D.Brees pass short right to 88-J.Shockey to MIN 18 for 14 yards (20-M.Williams). Pass 14, YAC 0

# 1-10-MIN 18 (10:35) 23-P.Thomas right guard to MIN 17 for 1 yard (56-E.Henderson).

# 2-9-MIN 17 (9:56) (Shotgun) 9-D.Brees pass short right to 85-D.Thomas to MIN 14 for 3 yards (52-C.Greenway). Pass 2, YAC 1

# 3-6-MIN 14 (9:19) (Shotgun) 9-D.Brees pass incomplete short right to 17-R.Meachem.

# 4-6-MIN 14 (9:14) 5-G.Hartley 32 yard field goal is No Good, Wide Left, Center-57-J.Kyle, Holder-6-T.Morstead.

They figured it out but not before giving up 17 yards on the same running play three times in a row. If Hartley was worth a crap this drive would have made it a TD+2 to tie.

there was also this drive before that one

# 1-10-NO 26 (12:56) 23-P.Thomas right end to NO 26 for no gain (56-E.Henderson).

# 2-10-NO 26 (12:20) 23-P.Thomas up the middle to NO 37 for 11 yards (26-A.Winfield, 52-C.Greenway).

# 1-10-NO 37 (11:41) 25-R.Bush right tackle to NO 43 for 6 yards (20-M.Williams).

# 2-4-NO 43 (11:01) 23-P.Thomas left guard to NO 48 for 5 yards (52-C.Greenway).

# 1-10-NO 48 (10:27) (Shotgun) 9-D.Brees pass short left to 16-L.Moore to MIN 43 for 9 yards (29-L.Sheppard). Pass 7, YAC 2

# 2-1-MIN 43 (9:49) 23-P.Thomas right guard to MIN 37 for 6 yards (69-J.Allen).

# 1-10-MIN 37 (9:08) 9-D.Brees right end to MIN 40 for -3 yards (91-R.Edwards). Play was a naked bootleg to the right.

# 2-13-MIN 40 (8:31) (Shotgun) PENALTY on MIN-91-R.Edwards, Defensive Offside, 5 yards, enforced at MIN 40 - No Play.

# 2-8-MIN 35 (8:19) (Shotgun) 9-D.Brees pass short left to 12-M.Colston to MIN 21 for 14 yards (26-A.Winfield). Pass 10, YAC 4

# 1-10-MIN 21 (7:36) 9-D.Brees pass short left to 23-P.Thomas pushed ob at MIN 6 for 15 yards (51-B.Leber). Pass -8, YAC 23

# 1-6-MIN 6 (6:51) 23-P.Thomas left guard to MIN 1 for 5 yards (69-J.Allen, 39-H.Abdullah).

# 2-1-MIN 1 (6:17) 23-P.Thomas left guard for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN.

Run defense is not quite what I expected it to be.

Unfortunately, overreaction always dominates the Shark Pool in the early weeks of the season.
