Favre didn't look like he had any fun last night (1 Viewer)

Again, to me the cracks are more likely to appear and widen elsewhere. I was really surprised with how sluggish the run defense looked and how slow they were to react to PT and the Saints leaning on him. The Vikes with their front seven should be able to completely shut down a back like Thomas. When he got going they just looked like they were reeling.

I think he's really going to regret this comeback. He reminded me of the Giants game in Green Bay a few years back when he quit the first time. He wasn't out there slapping hands and smiling at all last night. Obviously he got away with skipping camp last season with not ill effects, this year not so much. He looked particularly bad on that pick (although it should have been a PI). Next week they get Miami at home which is no sure thing. Then Detriot, followed with the Jets and Cowboys. This team is probably going to be 1-4 or 2-3 at best heading into Green Bay in October. Anyone else get the feeling they are looking like a .500 team?
No. You should officially change your FBG board name to Chicken Little.
We could really use a Chicken Little emoticon around here...

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. What is motivating him to put his body through this torture again? It can't be the money and he already has a super bowl ring.

He definitely looked like he had a case of buyer's remorse. At first I thought it was the ankle, but he moved around pretty well. I just don't think his heart is in it.
There was no zip on his passes. They looked like ducks. I was worried everytime he threw that it would be picked off.

They look like a sub .500 team? :pickle:Favre played like hell, no WR stepped up yet, and the play calling was abysmal.Despite all that, they were in contention until the very end against the defending SB champs, on the road. That defense alone is going to keep them well above .500. You won't see the Saints held to 14 points at home again all year.
:goodposting: They lost by five to the defending superbowl champs on the road and without their main WR. Way too much is being made of this.
I'd agree with this.however I'd also agree the offense looked a little out of sync. this also isnt overly abnormal for the first game of the year. if they were playing a weaker defense, these flaws wouldnt be as noticeable. either way, it is not panic time yet. dont go dropping Farve onto the Waiver Wire until you see him perform over the next 2 weeks. if those are poor performances too, then I'd be concerned.

Rewatch the game... he threw some nice passes... Receivers just couldn't get there, or bring them in... I did see a pretty bad pass thrown to klein-saucer (lol sp?) the one he caught but was ruled incomplete.. But Farve was catchin some serious flack at the time, was off balance and on the move...

It can't be the money? IIRC he made something like $4M last year and is making something like $18M this year. And it can't be pursuit of a second ring? Another ring and he would go out on the ultimate accomplishment, put himself in an elite group of QBs with two rings, and shut up all of those who criticize him for not being able to get it done in the playoffs.I think you're off base on both points.

First game back and he plays the champs. He just needs a warmup to get back in the groove. Next two at home vs MIA and DET should help. If he's sad face after those two games then this thread goes full blast.

What are you talking about? There was plenty of zip on most of his passes, such as the deep throw down the middle to Shiancoe and the TD to Shiancoe.

i tld myself not to ever respond to you again, but i see your inaccurate posts all over this message board. Favre looked old, tired, disinterested, aggravated, out of sync and annoyed. So what if he threw a couple nice passes if 85% percent of them sucked? He is a professional hall of fame QB who is in his second year with the same receivers save S Rice. This isnt all on harvins crap routes and Berrian's crap play. Favre sucked and thats the way it goes sometimes.

The one who you really need to worry about (and me too, as an owner) is Drew Brees. Did you see his post-game interview? He got so sweaty. From just doing Victory formation? I am concerned about his Cardio. I believe he let this championship thing go to his head. I am selling high.

the td catch is on shiancoe. that was a hell of a catch. balance, body control and locating the ball - all phenomenal. Favre could have had his eyes closed on that one.

Dude...while he was off much of that night...the two throws to Shiancoe were quite nice.

Williams was on the sideline during that Saints drive. He came in only when N.O. got to the 15 yard line. Childress has no clue. He thought the Saints would pass and let Thomas run up the gut. He was outcoached yet again

yes it was a nice toss, but i honestly thought the catch on that touchdown was more impressive than the throw. It actually made me pay attention to Shiancoe a lot more closely. the first pass to Shiancoe on that drive down the middle was excellent by favre.

Didn't the announcers actually state that Favre said "what am I doing here?" to himself on the bus over? That speaks volumes.

He completed 56% of his passes, no one can argue there was some pretty horrible WR play, and several nice passes were botched by WR's... So your 85% # is a bit of an exaggeration... humm, "inaccuracy"...

Favre looked pretty happy after throwing the TD pass to Shiancoe. It's never fun when you lose but when things were going well he pretty much looked like Favre to me.

But yes, they look like a .500 team. They caught NO flat and couldn't win. The good teams win sluggish games like that. I think it will be a frustrating year for Vikings fans, and a lot of them know it already.

I think we're reading too much into this. Favre is a very competitive personality. He was losing during most of that game. So I'm not surprised in the least that he wasn't smiling and slapping backs. This is same old Favre as far as I can tell. That was a hard night for all the Vikings players.

The Big Aristottle from Down Under was probably just engaging in a philosophy discussion about the meaning of life, as great minds like his would be prone to do, probably with Center John Sullivan who went to Notre Dame and must be pretty smart. Don't make more of it than you should. Take it to the bank.

yep. I think everyone remembers 'pants on the ground Favre' from the long off season. Both teams have 10 days rest so both should rebound....

There was a drive after the TD where they gave up 17 yards on three consecutive runs to the left guard. That's almost 6 ypc to PT running the same running play three times. My point has always been this: teams, even pro teams, need leadership and unity. They need to feel that no one player is above anyone else, and that everyone plays their own part to create a finely-tuned machine. Childress has systematically destroyed that notion on this team. Not only is he bad at calling plays (clearly evidenced multiple times last night) he is absolutely AWOL as any sort of leader. There is no leadership, there is no center, and the only thin strand that could tie this team together is winning. Without consistent winning, this team has absolutely nothing to make them a team. That, not Favre's age or ankle, not the loss of Rice or the poor play of the receivers, not even Childress's abysmal play calling, is what will take this team down.

He misses Sidney. When the saints changed up the coverage on Shiancoe he had nowhere to go. Harvin isnt a #1 WR, yet and berrian camarillo etc are just dudes.
They should trade for VJax.

I wish they would make a commercial where Favre goes around to random peoples job's and tell them they need to quit. Some guy drops a hamburger Favre says, "Oops might wanna think about hanging it up there chief." Somebody else shows up late Favre says, " looks like you've lost your passion for accounting, you're really hurting your legacy."

I just don't see why it is such a big deal to everyone what he does. He is still able to play at a high level, and although he acted differently last night he still loves the game. Of course he is torn about walking away or staying.

Give me Favre any day of the week over the guy that signs the fat contract and then is never heard from again.

I think that everyone is looking too far into it. Minnesota nearly beat last year Super Bowl champs... without Sidney Rice or the player getting to work together in training camp very much.

Vikes look like they need a change-of-pace/ 3rd down back. Had a good one. Maybe that extra $3M to Brett should've gone to keep Chester?

I don't know the particulars of Favre's contract but I am going to bet that someone was going to be paid that money one way or another. Had Favre not come back another QB, Sage Rosen Rosen :Fletch: or whatever would've been getting paid something...correct?

Was this bonus money or something?

I used to be a big Favre fan and supporter but he's jumped the shark hawk and become a complete joke. He'll still be remembered as one of the best when he hangs them up but all the drama is just too much already. I just have a feeling Minn is going to be a bit of a trainwreck this year.

I agree. I actually think Favre looked OK except for the one INT (bad decision under pressure). The Saints just pushed all the right buttons and were the better team last night. Except for Hartley (wtf?)One of the announcers commented that Sean Payton & The Saints excel at pinpointing an opponent's weakness and just hammering on it, and I think that was evident in the game.

Really is this going to be the theme of the Shark Pool? A million, "Favre is terrible, because I think so!" threads?
Unfortunately, overreaction always dominates the Shark Pool in the early weeks of the season.
Agree completely - it was the first game, on the road, with Rice out, Taylor not on the team anymore, playing with a WR he has never thrown to, and he hasn't practiced for almost a year - BF has to play into game shape since he skipped the preseason.Let's see him after the bye week.

People are also forgetting that the Super Bowl Champs were playing without their leader from last season, Darren Sharper. I

Even the passes he completed floated. He wasn't very accurate either. Part of it I chalk up to not playing in OTAs and most of preseason and not having a sense of chemistry with this group of WRs. I hope that's all it is and that Favre's arm hasn't finally hit the wall.

Kinda have to agree here and that's what we'll be talking about when Detroit wins this week as well. Not trying to be smart, just sayin.

This is training camp for him he needs to perfect timing with his receivers.

Kiln is only 56 miles from New Orleans.

No QB would.
Aaron Brooks would :D
