FBG loses its Tremendous Upside: RIP friend (2 Viewers)

Fun fact about TU: he never once drove a car
Snowy day like today reminds me of one of his many quirks. On days like this he liked to take a cab to the street that is on the cover art of Freewheelin Bob Dylan. I'd get a random text -

TU: "I'm at Jones and W 4th"

me: "wtf"

TU: "Freewhelin Bob Dylan street - it snowed today"

me: "Did you find a spot for your beetle bus"

TU: "Suze is parking it"

---------------------

I miss the random texts.
Damn. I'm going to play that album right now. RIP Sean.
Lots of mood appropriate songs on that one.

Rough. RIP TU and thoughts and well wishes for all those who knew him around these parts. Another reminder that FBG and particularly the FFA is a special place.

Damn this sucks. I never met him in person, but he was a solid contributor in a lot of threads I read. Sad that he was only 37 as well. Thoughts to everyone that knew him.
Thank you David. It's posters and people like Tremendous Upside that drew me to this community in the first place, and the reason it's one of my very few regular I-world stops anymore. Again, I have you and this board to thank for one of the greatest friendships anyone could ask for.

When we had our cornholes he bunked with ZILLA, so the sleeping so heavy that a train wouldn't wake him was part of the action. ZILLA had headphones, ear plugs, a helmet and caulking to sleep in the same room.

One morning we came to get them and down the hall we heard the faint mating call of what we thought might be a wild animal. As we got to their door the sound was so piercing, the pictures on wall were vibrating. Zilla came to the door with his headgear, eyes bloodshot, craziest hair I've ever seen.

TU was snoring away, ZILLA or Tre said it sounded like a blue whale call, and we expected the mighty beasts to crash through the windows at any moment.

I never laughed so hard, it was the theme of the whole weekend. Mrrrrrrrrrrrrrioooooooooooootrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooiooooooooooooo /TU

:lmao:

Definitely.

I didn't know him except from the music draft threads--seemed like a good guy. But he obviously was a great guy.

Trying to make my way through this thread. Sean wouldnt want all the fuss nor the sadness. Not for something for which the only uncertainty is when.

But he'd also be the first to shed tears among the closest of friends while showing strength and compassion if it were one of us and our families going through this.

Ill post a few pics so those of you who never met him might have a glimpse of the joy, thoughtfulness, humor, modest but deep intellect and supreme humanity he brought to those enough lucky enough to call Sean, Friend.
I'm incredibly sad to hear about this and sending thoprawishes to those of you who were close to him. As with other ifriends who have passed, I always find remarkable the bonds that can quickly be formed between people who only know each other through a computer screen.

I'm also sad for those of us who never had the chance to meet him. It's rare for so many people to know someone and have none of them share an unkind word.

Here's to good friends, who know us well and like us still. :suds:

RIP T-Up.

Pictures, as promised. It's amazing how few pictures there are of the people closest to us. Hope this gives a bit of justice.

Sean's Crew - Sean is on the far right. These are his best friends from college (BU). Long before Koya was in the picture, this was (and still is) his crew.

My Avatar - The guy would NOT let a party remain stale. Never looked for attention, but always made those around him in that much better a mood. For some reason, this pic just reminds me of his energy. Infectious.

Sean, The Jew - While technically a Gentile, I think he knew more about Judaism than I do (I'm a ****, fwiw). Again, just knowledgeable, and loved culture. He was at the last two Seders my wife and I did - which were also our first. He was just always there for us.

His presence - Sean's the big guy right behind me (the groom). He was one of my Chuppah carriers and just had a subtle but powerful presence about himself.

Life of the Party - While other friends of ours cause trouble and vie for attention, Sean just makes everyone happier. My wife said that her greatest memory of our party (other than our dance, because we ####### ROCKED it) was their dance. He was an effortless friend, if that makes sense.

He just made you smile. One of our favorite pastimes was an annual bar crawl. That may have been where my wife (pictured) first met him. Why a picture of someone else? Because I can't think of an expression that better represents the sheer unburdened happiness Sean brought to us all. He never asked for anything back, but just made everyone that much more sure of themselves and happy to be a part of this world.

Oh no. That's terrible news.

I was involved in a lot of drafts with Tremendous Upside- both sports and other stuff. His knowledge was widespread and he always had interesting things to post. Great sense of humor as well.

Koya, you are a terrific person and my heart goes out to you for losing this friend. I wish you all the best.

Just now seeing this thread.

Very sorry to hear about TU. Thanks for all the WIS leagues and the popular music erudition.

Recquiescat in pace. A reminder that tomorrow is promised to no one.

Did he have any aliases.
not that I'm aware of, but this sure seems like a really strange question.
how is it a strange question? When Finless's died he had like 4-5.
two very different people
Yeah totally, at least based on their online personas. TU had the ability to be very funny without relying heavily on schtick or being a #### about it.
Your words are hurtful ;)

I'm ####### gutted. You will be very missed my friend.

Rarely do you meet someone so selfless, and so able to make people feel genuinely happy and heard. He had a wealth of knowledge in so many topics, and I don't think it was possible to find a topic you couldn't discuss with him. We exchanged many text messages over the years, mainly around the Rangers, EPL and the food industry, and it was always nice to hear from him. Last we met was when I went up to NYC to get my passport renewed. Tons of fun, many laughs, and plenty of discussions.

I will miss you my friend. :banned:

I'll repeat this since this thread is moving - as Sean moved a lot of us (and for a man of his size, he moved through Manhattan pretty deftly)...

Whenever one of you who were lucky enough to have befriended / cornholded with Sean are in NY, please let me know. Least I can do is buy a few rounds in honor of TU.

####, how I've yet to meet TRE I still don't know. Sean's penchant for flying to wherever to meet whomever because worst case was he'd find his own way to enjoy while making even newer friends is something I've always admired.

I guess I could have put it better. I never met Sean but I was in a lot of leagues with him and partnered with him during a long forgotten baseball season. It always seem like his online persona was genuine and there was a real person behind it. He posted things because he thought or felt something personally, not because there was this separate TU alter-ego that wanted to stir things up.

I am not sure that TU was any different from Sean Gullen. In fact, I am quite sure that they were, and are, one and the same.

Genuine, human, real. God this sucks.

A few years ago he lost a friend of his and was listening to The National as that band reminded him of his lost friend. Subsequently, every time I heard them, I thought of TU. Listening now.

Never met TU, but considered him a good iBuddy, leaguemate, chat friend and considering how much respect and admiration I have for TU's great FBG friends - guys like Zilla, Red, Charv, JET, Koya, DD and more - it solidifies in my mind what an awesome human being he was. Horrible loss.

Those drafts are all I really know him from - but I'm welling up in tears reading through this thread now. Sucks for all who really knew him I'm sure - Tremendous Loss.

Damn. This place just got a little smaller. One of the smartest people ivr met on these boards. Always willing to answer a question or give sound advice. May he rest in peace. Was a lot of fun at draft time. Im sorry koya And dr d

Standing on West 4th right now taking a picture of Jones St.

TU was a good dude. I'm stunned at the news. Haven't been around for awhile but got a text at lunchtime.
