FFA In Death Spiral? (1 Viewer)

I have been taking long extended breaks with all the political dooshery taking place here.

I hate election years around here. Just awful.

as many have learned over the years i am pretty darn good at making up nicknames who else brought you the goods like randall the touchdown robber cobber or travis the flying burrito kelce no one that is who so i think that the new nickname for the old higgmaster should be daytime emmy because everything is drama all the time take that to the bank bromigos
I like it.

Someday we'll be bromigos SWC.

eh,  I know I've got a lot less to say these days than I did 6-10 years ago...   I think it's just a result of the FFA aging with time and the influx of new posters hasn't kept pace with people getting more boring, and having less to say.

Let's face it...  when you're 30-40 ish and have some smaller children, your life isn't likely very "epic".  or story worthy.

I don't do politics, and great threads like who's hottest and babe brackets have gone by the wayside...  so I'm left posting in the tennis, financial, charlotte mckinney, and bad beat threads... and that's about all i got..
This is pretty true.

Girl/dating threads used to be a hot topic here like 8-10 years ago.  Otis had some incredibly epic threads that drew plenty of attention.  My train wreck girl threads certainly brought a lot of negativity but still some plentiful and interesting banter.  No.16 followed that up nicely.  But, aside from AZ_Ron's thread (which, let's face it, none of us can really relate to) this entire aspect of the FFA is gone and hasn't been successfully replaced (I mean, Eminence can't even accidentally get laid and would instead rather talk about bitcoins).

Speaking personally, it's crazy to think that it's been almost ten years since the ex and I haven't had really any sort of interesting thing to say on the topic or some story of my stupidity or some girl's craziness in nearly five years.  Others have been the same.  Statistically speaking, we're probably waiting another five years minimum for this subset of FFA contributors to start going through divorces and, let's be honest, those threads are far more depressing and less interesting than some knucklehead 22 year old chronicling his adventures and stumbles with much more attractive younger women than the majority of poster's will ever be able to get again.

So, alas, we're relegated to topics regarding TV shows, politics, and, for ####'s sake, lawn maintenance.  On the bright side, my FF football teams have been killing it the last few years because I've actually been using this website for its intended purpose rather than for my own personal diary, and I imagine others are doing the same, but, let's face it, we're more boring now and there's no new crop to fill the void.

i think the big thing is that people start to actually know one another here and then bam they have to stop lying in the dating threads it sort of ruins stuff when you can not just outright lie about stuff like bossing and seargenting and stuff like that take that to the bank brobraggos

Great post.  This forum seems to reflect the age of the people in here.  No surprise at the low-T denouement the last couple years.  Just wait till all the health problems start in 10 years.

yup.   The ideas coursing through my head every day are so effing lame that my 28 year old self is weeping inside.

A thread about date night?  having relations with your wife?   Changing a diaper?   Not getting any sleep?   Epic adventures in root canals?

I've got nothing.. and it's depressing...  frankly i really didn't need a thread rubbing my lameness into my face even moreso

The political stuff is awful.  Tim is a problem, but he's easy to ignore and in the end mostly harmless.

The McCain was really fun because we had Statorama doing an oscar worthy impression of a Palin supporter which had people that were fooled, even thinking he was really actually serious right up to the end.

That was some serious dedication and the best troll job this board has ever seen.

Political discourse from there has gone straight downhill.  People take this stuff way too seriously and have an outsized opinion of what their impact can be to other people.

We need somebody to liven the place, within our current limitations.  For instance the next time one of us has a colonoscopy or a our prostates checked we should insert a couple of vintage Hot Wheels up there and then live blog or periscope the event.  We need to apply ourselves without overly straining ourselves.

YOu can add to that—10 years ago, you still had good reason to HAVE threads like those because, by and large, there was still a sense of people weaning away from the old habit of talking face to face with other guys and comparing notes about women, music, drugs, sex, etc and we were slowly moving into that phase where everything in our lives is digitally captured in 144 characters or less and with a "one pic says it all" format.  The younger guys have grown up "learning" everything off the Net. They don't feel a need to ask as many questions, get as many validations, or anything.

Also, with SO much stuff on the Internet, it's so over the top, a lot of people probably don't feel like they have anything to say that others won't find as "meh".  Fifteen years ago, I could tell you about a night where my friends and I stole cars, picked up girls, crashed a party, etc, etc, and it might have still been like that's a cool story, bro." Now days, that's, "cool story, bro /sarcasm".

You start videoing things shoved up your butt, and I'm.....

ALL IN

Interesting perspective.

I agree that when I started here back in '02...  this was more or less my first message board... and sharing ideas with strangers that became i-friends of sort was new to me... and there was a lot of camaraderie with the poker events back in the early 00's...  I remember having a good solid 12-15 FBG's on instant messaenger for poker tournies... those were good i-times.

Especially since I work with women only,  this was my water cooler where i could discuss last night's game,  last night's beer/whiskey,  last night's babe.. etc.

And you are right that as the internet has aged that novelty has worn off.

I learned a lot from posters here..   that now many people can probably learn with a google search rather than seeking out a community.

Okay as a veteran of this place I will do my best to bring back the glory days.

Let's see.....what can I post about??

Hmmmm.  "I have a bronchial infection that the doctor gave me an antibiotic, but it is causing me to have violent diarrhea."

Or

"Help, my 16 year old daughter is bankrupting my wife and I with all her school and social requirements"

These are all in development but you get the idea how exciting my life is....

You had me at diarrhea, and then you locked me down with 16 year old.  Then, well then you lost me with "daughter" since I have far too much respect for you to allow my imagination to run on the subject of your daughter.

I'll be 100% honest for me its been the new board upgrade and two reasons in particular.

1. Only 25 topics per page. Fairly recent topics fall off the first page very quickly. Call it laziness or just being used to Google but I RARELY click on the second page of topics. So I look at the smaller page 1 of topics and if I dont see anything that interests me I move on very quickly.

2. The quote bug annoys the heck out of me on my phone. I could go and post in a thread that I replied to last week and my quote from last week still pops up and is impossible to delete. I end up giving up and not posting at all.
for once, shady is dead on.

Another issue I always have here is keeping track of who is who.  Alias+A.D.D.=WTF?

I really only know one semi regular on here and I'm still not sure if he is even real.  Being busy with the kids also makes the substance in the threads here suffer.  I have a feeling as we move in to our mid 40's, and divorce drama starts hitting, this place will really pick up again. Today is my 14th wedding anniversary btw.  I didn't even get her a card.  I think I'm in trouble.

Well, if you're like me, you're going through a divorce and the dating times are around the corner again.  Perhaps enough of us just need to get a divorce to stoke this place's fire.

McGarnicle, are you and alias of Dan Lambskin?

You have been one of my favorite posters here and a while ago (last summer maybe) I noticed you hadn't posted in some time. I was concerned maybe something had happened to you (no homo) and did a search to see if there was an RIP thread for you somewhere. It pulled up a thread where another poster, Dan L I think, said he was retiring you for a little while.

It is possible I may have been drunk at the time and got some names mixed up.

No need to answer if you are an alias. Also, I'm pretty sure I am one of the 70-80 you have on ignore due to some inflammatory comments in the Trump thread so you probably won't even see this post.

I seem to remember a time here when you could come in and ask a question if you honestly didn't know the answer.  Now it seems more often than not you get a attitude laden response of "why don't you google that for yourself" (friendly advice provided in the Yellowstone thread notwithstanding).

Speaking of aliases, I am convinced that Dr Detroit and Arizona Ron are the same person.

He works for the DoD by day, does consulting on the side, and bangs every hot black chick within 100 miles in his spare time.

Let's not get things twisted, I HATE bitcoin.

Danny Lambs is on a timeout currently. And does not equal McGarnicle.

We need to retire this emoticon..

:lmao:
I realize that it is a rude retort to people with whom you should be engaged in a congenial manner, but ridicule is a time-honored and effective weapon against traditionalism and authoritarianism and we should not surrender its use lightly. It is equally appropriate against those who wish to deprive those on the margins of society of their civil liberties as well as those who run Big Sports and seek to bamboozle us with bull####e.

No way do I have you on ignore GB.

But to answer your question, yes, we are the same person. I also post under Scoresman sometimes but not as much.

Also, the actual content is getting more and more boring as posters get older. Topics are about politics, retirement, elder children, divorce, etc etc when they used to be more about hooking up, partying, poop in ceilings, colon blow diaries, other fun stuff, etc etc.

Just the way it is I guess.
The forum and its members don't help themselves when the old man circle jerk threads come up every couple weeks bashing millennials. Not exactly a welcoming environment that will bring an influx of more youthful members and topics.
