FFA In Death Spiral? (1 Viewer)

I would disagree. This tendency to view everyone as an alias or whatever is a strange phenomena. I have had new people PM me after I gave them a little help thanking me. Telling me they feel it is hard to break in and so they don't post and when they do they start getting accused of being someone else or not a girl or whatever. We don't do welcome threads like most places. It's considered good etiquette on many sites to introduce yourself with your first post. Here we eat people alive for that.

So we're a kind of insular and paranoid. Then we wonder why we don't see more new posts.
Then you got Mcgarnicle who puts them on ignore the second their account is activated.  :lmao:

But yet you have a few CONFIRMED rogue accounts. Tone , dear Scooter and the latest to disappear fantasy football freak. C'mon man
Lol. Wat?

You think I'm a squis alias? Uh, no. ? I may have been here longer than you, HT. I've just never posted very much, because early on it was all cliques, and that's not my thing, and lately because I'm looking for funny #### and discussion, not smilies and trolling/arguing. Honestly, I've probably never been a great fit here, or any message board, because I'm kind of earnest, open-minded and straightforward, which seems to translate to super-weirdo on the internets; however, there are a few posters here who are too awesome, funny and informative to give up.

NCCommish is 100% right that that every year we discuss the death spiral. With that much descent, we must be in the 9th circle of hell by now.

I'm not going to read 16 pages but has anybody mentioned the flattening out of interest in fantasy football in general.  I stopped playing years ago but it seems like the number of leagues at work are way down.  DFS has impacted classic fantasy sports as well, probably negatively (but that's a different thread).

How would you know the FFA exists if not for the entry via fantasy football?  And even if you did, this board is like jumping on a moving freight train.   A pinned welcome noobs thread might help a bit instead of a locked FAQ thread
In theory, you shouldn't, and I find it interesting that there are people who post exclusively in this forum but never in The Shark Pool. Now maybe they played FF at some distant point in time, lost interest, but stayed active in this forum because they found the conversation so enlightening and informative. :hophead:  Still it is curious to me to never post about football on a football site (?).

An introductory thread where the noobs identify themselves sounds good, but I am not sure it would be feasible. It would immediately be overrun by trolls and people making lame jokes and snarky comments. Plus, how would you know the real noobs from the alias accounts?

And as far as the flattening out of interest in fantasy football in general, the Shark Pool has been especially hard hit and if anything is a death spiral it is that forum. The powers that be have even incorporated a new Assistant Coach sub forum to increase traffic, but it may be a case of too little too late.

I enjoy the FFA.  Have for years, even though I only started posting regularly a few years or so ago after years of lurkage.

My enjoyment of the board has not lessened in the past couple of years and I can't be sure the political threads are any more active or denser or stupider or whatever the complaint is either.

I'm not an alias and have never to my best recollection launched an alias.

I post in the political threads but mostly stay civil, I believe.

To this day I have never been to :e:, have never seen it, and have no real clue what it contains.

I've never knowingly met another FFA poster in real life.

I don't think the FFA is in a death spiral.  It seems to me much the same as ever.

Its only really sad quality is the handful of loud, cliquey dooshi who will almost always descend on any new poster.  I had to go through that when I first started posting more but there are many people who understandably wouldn't bother, and I'm sure that (plus the endless game of "alias gotcha") keeps some new blood, maybe almost all new blood, far away.

Thought of two more things.  First, I think a welcome forum is a great idea.  It would probably require a little moderation to fend off the weirdos who would inevitably attack it.

Also, I post here because I find most people here intelligent, fun, knowledgeable, funny, and respectful.  I have fun here.  My interest in fantasy football has waned over the past several years (I mostly enjoy Survivor leagues or pools now) but I've never seen any reason to leave the FFA as a result, nor do I feel any need to regard those who still enjoy fantasy football with sneering dismissal.  I do detest DFS, though.

To close on a positive note, two Januarys or so ago I participated in both an all-time great draft led by Eephus (one song per year) and did tim's chess tournament and group game against Kasparov.  I still play my resulting mix from that draft three or four times a week and the tim events got me back into chess for the first time since roughly college.  On top of that I discovered a terrific strategy game, Warlight, here about seven years ago now and still play it every day with other FBGs.  So the FFA is a fun part of my online life and politics threads and such don't stop any of that for me.

P.S., I like likes.

I originally came here for cheatsheets. I stayed for the forum. In fact I was here before there was a free for all. I lurked for a bit after it was introduced. I rarely post in the pool and when I do it is almost exclusively about Panthers players or the team. I retired for a long time from fantasy football and I only play now in a family league with my buddies kids. Well not so much kids anymore as they are all in their late 20s now but still.

I remember the first thread I posted in. It was a thread about evolution. I jumped in about 3 pages in and never looked back. Been here ever since.

I'm the exception but I found my way to FBG via fantasy baseball rather than football.   I think I've only posted in a couple of game threads in the Shark Pool but not for a couple of years.

Ah the old evolution threads.  They were fun.

And now Donald Trump is President.

How young and innocent we were.

Ah, the Cheatsheet days. Man, it's been a long time. Evolution and science threads are what brought me to the board, too. I stayed for the Shining Path. He was one of the best poster we've ever had here. We have a number of posters, yourself included, who keep the torch lit, and keep me here.

There's nothing really wrong with alias accounts, they're useful from time to time. I'd give up harping on them and the mods all the time, if I were you.

Bro, long time no see.

Outspoken liberals are protected on here. Can say just about anything they want
Beavers, Mad Sweeny, Bucky and a few others might disagree with that.

And I don't think anyone has been banned just for being outspoken, as long as they adhere to forum guidelines and refrain from trolling. I do recall Clinton and a couple others being banned after preaching white racial superiority, but the racism has to be almost beyond the pale (like that) to cause a permaban.

In any event, it is a privately owned free board and in the mods discretion to do pretty much whatever they please, even if some find it arbitrary and inconsistent. If one doesn't like it, then they can find always find another forum with those who are more simpatico.

Ever since the FFA became the TRUMP forum the place has been nosediving . Thanks Obama
First of all - I love Fred. I have nothing but respect for him and I think he has great points.

But to paraphrase John Lennon - I just had to look.

This is the FFA from 7/15/11.

There are 6 political threads:

  • Obama Press
  • Obama Takes His Ball
  • Bachmann
  • Chrysler employees
  • Republicans use abortion
  • Debt ceiling countdown.
There are also newsy threads on Casey Anthony, Gasland and Conspiracy.

Right now, on FFA there is:

  • Trump
  • Trump Russia
  • Obama's signature achievement.
  • Trump care.

Hey, I'm just trying to clarify at what number ashamed is demanded?   Seems to me, in the grand scheme of the world, EVERYONE has been a plunderer.  Why no hate for the ####### Norwegians?  Vikings raped and pillaged at the top of the heap for eons (at least until Bud Grant took over...then they were a perennial #2)

How many threads were on the front page in 2011? How many are on the front page now?

LMAO - I haven't been on here since like...2007?   Anyway, I note that the threads that were around when I left, and are still here.   "10K" thread, "GM's thread about...", "the Bachelor"

Good lord.

The political forum is dying a slow death. Same 6-7 posters chasing everyone else away. Prepare for the onslaught here when they re-emerge back here

I used to enjoy keeping up with the political threads and chiming in now and then but I almost never go into the subforum and my overall participation has gone way down because of it.
