I enjoy the FFA. Have for years, even though I only started posting regularly a few years or so ago after years of lurkage.
My enjoyment of the board has not lessened in the past couple of years and I can't be sure the political threads are any more active or denser or stupider or whatever the complaint is either.
I'm not an alias and have never to my best recollection launched an alias.
I post in the political threads but mostly stay civil, I believe.
To this day I have never been to :e:, have never seen it, and have no real clue what it contains.
I've never knowingly met another FFA poster in real life.
I don't think the FFA is in a death spiral. It seems to me much the same as ever.
Its only really sad quality is the handful of loud, cliquey dooshi who will almost always descend on any new poster. I had to go through that when I first started posting more but there are many people who understandably wouldn't bother, and I'm sure that (plus the endless game of "alias gotcha") keeps some new blood, maybe almost all new blood, far away.
Thought of two more things. First, I think a welcome forum is a great idea. It would probably require a little moderation to fend off the weirdos who would inevitably attack it.
Also, I post here because I find most people here intelligent, fun, knowledgeable, funny, and respectful. I have fun here. My interest in fantasy football has waned over the past several years (I mostly enjoy Survivor leagues or pools now) but I've never seen any reason to leave the FFA as a result, nor do I feel any need to regard those who still enjoy fantasy football with sneering dismissal. I do detest DFS, though.
To close on a positive note, two Januarys or so ago I participated in both an all-time great draft led by Eephus (one song per year) and did tim's chess tournament and group game against Kasparov. I still play my resulting mix from that draft three or four times a week and the tim events got me back into chess for the first time since roughly college. On top of that I discovered a terrific strategy game, Warlight, here about seven years ago now and still play it every day with other FBGs. So the FFA is a fun part of my online life and politics threads and such don't stop any of that for me.
P.S., I like likes.
