That's why they're no longer an All-Star, get your game on, go play....but Fastball doesn't have their smashmouth

This MTV Generation kid had this one on the short list. Great song, amazing list of artists on it.I guess it's time may have passed, but this was the cool, forward-facing, socially-conscious Christmas song of the mid-1980s. In the Sad/Wistful Category:
6.05: "Do They Know It's Christmas?" - Band Aid
List of artists performing on the single -- two are Americans who happened to be touring and performing in London at the time of the recording session.
Long version with personal messages from the artists mixed into an extended bridge. These messages were originally on the B-side of the 1984 Band Aid single.
Lastly, a making-of video that was released not long after the single.

I have to have the Velvet Fog on my playlist, so this pick is Mel Torme - White Christmas
Wow. That's like saying, "well there's no rooms left at the Ritz on Michigan Avenue so I guess I'll just get a room at the Hotel 8 in Gary. "5.12 White Christmas - Twisted Sister
Since I can't have the Bing version, I'll take this up-tempo one. Besides, I've always liked Dee's voice.
Puh-leeze. I'll stay at the Dew Drop Inn in South Chicago, if it's all the same.Wow. That's like saying, "well there's no rooms left at the Ritz on Michigan Avenue so I guess I'll just get a room at the Hotel 8 in Gary. "
...and tonight thank God it's Bananarama instead of MarilynYeah eff you Band Aid rules. There's a thread somewhere, lots of controversy around a certain Bono howled line
Kenny Loggins was the guest artist on a recent episode of Darryl Hall's show on MTV Live. During a break, one of the other band members asked them about "We Are The World". Loggins revealed during the recording, Paul Simon pulled him aside and said, "Look around. If a bomb drops on this place, John Denver is back on top."The 80s were squarely in my wheelhouse but let me be the curmudgeon on Band Aid. Not on the cause or Sir Bob's vision and earnestness, but on the "once in a lifetime assembly of superstars" angle. Bono, George Michael and Sting were and are big stars. Phil Collins and Duran Duran are solidly in the next tier but most of the other artists would have to buy a ticket to enter the hall of fame.
"We are the World" is a much crappier (non-Xmas) song but the talent level (even with the mandatory points deduction for Dan Ackroyd) is much higher than Band Aid.
USA!!! USA!!! #1
Both offensive and an awful songAnd it's better than that Band Aid crap. "Do They Know It's Christmas?" is one of the worst, most offensive things ever.

I forgot about this folk band.

Round 7
I think the Rock Era songs are the most difficult, so I needed to get this one ASAP.
Run-DMC. Christmas in Hollis. Rock era.
It's the toughest category, but it's very doable IMO.If three rock era songs is going to be a problem for people, I'm open to swapping in another wild card.
My preference is for the status quo because I'd rather hear something new than another cover of a classic but will go w/ majority
ETA: and not the Status Quo from Live Aid
I didn't realize we get to pick 3. That's awesome. If three rock era songs is going to be a problem for people, I'm open to swapping in another wild card.
