Footballguys Yacht Party (1 Viewer)

Posting this both in the shark pool and FFA since this will be a Fantasy Football related Yacht trip (with roundtables discussing strategy, etc)

I am serious about coordinating a 4+ hour yacht cruise out of Florida if I think there would be interest.

Here is the link:

Footballguys Chartered Yacht

I have not done the math completely, but the plan would be to try and keep the cost at or under $100 a head and would include a sitdown lunch. Drinks would be extra besides a lunch beverage.

My goal is to get 200-250 people on the boat (Catalina, Lady Windridge or Caprice yachts)

Besides the social parts of this, we would have a fantasy rountable where we took questions from the audience regarding teams, players, the site, etc. It would be a great way for our staff to meet the people that make up the boards, etc.

Would there be any interest in this type of thing?

Clearly if successful, we would consider multiple Yacht trips (East and West Coast trips too, but want to make sure we can even pull off one first).

How about the Detroit area?
Right now we just want to be able to pull this off in Florida. If successful, we will be looking at adding these locations (West Coast - SF or SD, East Coast and Great Lakes areas)

Is Fred Smoot going to be the cruise director? I am in!!

Sounds great Dave, but if I told my wife that I was headed to Miami to go on a yacht with some guys to talk about fantasy football I think I'd have some explaining to do.

I'd be in, but I'm gonna balk at $100. I would like to be included on the interested list though - perhaps by some quirk of fate money will loosen up ...

What part of June? Am likely heading down after June 14th to spend summer in Jacksonville so may be in if it is after that.

 What about the Gulf Coast (the other coast), leaving out of Galveston/Houston area? Us Texans could fill you up a boat!

I might be interested, but am leery of what type of boat you Texans would get. Bubba Gump ...

Sounds like a great idea. Don't think I could make Fl however but I do like the concept. Put a Great Lakes weekend together and I am there! Good luck on setting this up!

David,I'm not sure about a "Yacht Party" idea, since it is tough for a vast majority of your subscribers to spend the extra time and $$$ to drive/fly down to Miami (or wherever) to participate in a half-day FFL event. Location would always be a challenge, as 99% of your "base" aren't going to be within short driving distance of an event no matter where it is held. What I WOULD like to see FBGs do, however, would be to sponsor a number of annual regional FFL events and get-togethers....so that all of us "local folks" could get a chance to meet one another while hopefully getting a FBGs staffer or two to attend (even if none of them happen to be local). I'm from Minnesota, for example, so I would LOVE to occasionally get the chance to hang with other Minnesota FBGs. We could, of course, try and get something cooking on our own. However, having a "FBGs event" in Minneapolis would give folks a good excuse to get out and meet one another. Heck, even invite the local sports radio station and a Vikings player or two to the party and try and land FBGs some free publicity with the team/media while we're at it! The same could be true in any number of other metros around the country/continent (Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal included). Not as "sexy" as a Miami boat cruise, but not as limiting to only wealthy FBGs and/or folks local to the Miami area.My :2cents:

Sounds like a good idea.

Contests and drafts to occur there as well?

Tampa, Miami, or Jacksonville area?
Hi Jeff,Yes, contests, draft stuff, poker would all be part of it I'd think. We're still in the kicking it around stages. Location is also a big question right now. Midwest might be the first one over Florida. We'll see.

Sounds like a great idea, Joe/David. I'd shy away from going to Miami though, especially in the dead of summer. Florida is the _last_ place I'd want to be in June/July/August... now, in winter that's another story. :)As for the Detroit suggestion.. hey, I'm partial for obvious reasons, but you do have the added bonus of "international waters" within minutes. Whatever is decided I'm sure it will be a cool event and worth attending if you live within a reasonable distance.

The Des Moines Convention Center is heated this time of year. ;)

How bout a riverboat down the Tennessee River?

:goodposting: Exactly... lots of stuff going on. There will even be poker discussions and tournaments so you shark poolers can come fatten the pockets of the FFA crew

cool idea

come to the Adirondacks when ya do an East Coast one
But isn't Florida... on the...nevermind. ;)

I'll throw my support behind the "do it in a convention center" crowd. First of, it'd be a lot less crowded. Second off, it'd be a lot less hot. Third off, the football talk will be just as good whether it's on the ocean or dry land. And it'd be cheaper, to boot.

but then, the FBG staff couldn't justify an all expenses paid vacation to FL on the FBG.com dollar. ;) Has Joe signed off on this yet?

The Chesapeake Bay is nice in May. It's near Baltimore and Washington, and fairly close to Philly, NY, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, etc. More people might be able to drive there than fly. Just a thought.

Sounds like a great idea, except planning a trip, for just a half day yacht trip. A half a day of fantasy football, I need more. How about a 3 day retreat somewhere, with a poker tourney, some survivor drafts, near something for the family so they can be entertained while everyone is getting a fantasy football fix.A long weekend mini vacation, for a decent price might convince alot of other halves to go for this.

It seems the Metro-Detroit area has quite a few members here. I think it would work out OK.

I am interested... but since many will be traveling, I'd make it somewhere fun... You don't want it to end after the 4 hour boat ride, as many will be traveling far... so the ability to go somewhere to continue discussion, play poker, etc... would be cool...San Diego would be a blast... there's always Vegas.. But I can go anywhere, so just let me know...

I'd rather have it on the West Coast, but I'm in for whatever. Just give me plenty of lead time so I can book my "business" trip! ;)

You missed the best place of all.. PITTSBURGH!Plenty of places to hold a gathering, party on the Strip, Carson St. (ever seen a midget live on a bar?), hell, we might even get a few Steelers to show up!

yes, a cruise on the lovely Detroit River!

Would love a Detroit/Windsor event

I like the 3 day weekend idea. Have dinner and maybe a poker night Friday, Saturday boating or golf and then Sat night round table or poker, then Sunday Golf or boating and leave by 2PM.I'm in for something like this in the midwest. Chicagoland area is a good call or even Detroit.Either way, good luck!

For the first one (hopefully of many) - I would agree that it should be a weekend event rather than a half-day.I'd be open to a convention center or a cruise. I think more people could go to a "hub" city (i.e. a place everyone could get to / fly in to cheap) and get a convention center / hotel banquet room together.I'd also suggest an NFL city, but it isn't a requirement.Baltimore is good for a destination for the east coast and also one of the easiest airports around. Other possibilities include Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas and Denver. San Diego (tougher airport, further away / less centralized) is a good spot, but not as high on the list for ease of destination as the others.Las Vegas - obviously a great destination for a fantasy football crowd. If the timeline is June, Florida can be a zoo at that time of year. A four-hour cruise seems like a good idea, but I doubt it will be long enough and is harder for west coasters to get to (and I'm on the east coast). My recommendation would be 2 or 3 locations - Denver/SD/LV, Chicago, and Baltimore.
