Denver is not up against the cap - moving Orton is not a financial necessity.

link

Their cap situation will also improve markedly next Thursday, when the NFL's 2011 league year belatedly begins. Peter Ruocco, the league's senior vice president of labor relations, confirmed Thursday that all dead money — money amortized from the contracts of cut or traded players — will come off the salary caps of all NFL teams in the new league year. That will clear roughly $17 million off the Broncos' books and put them well under the $120 million cap.

Everything that I've read and/or heard indicates that Orton came in yesterday and was very crisp and confident, much more than Tebow. I'm not sure that moving him at all is a good idea - much less for peanuts. If the dolphins want to move ahead with Moore/Henne, that's on them. If they want a legitimate NFL calibre QB (for once), they will have to pay...both Orton the salary he deserves, and the Broncos. The dolphins are trying to lowball here, and IMO it's going to bite them in the butt.
good point... and further evidence that orton isn't hamstringing their cap is the just announced mcgahee signing...

AdamSchefter Adam Schefter RB Willis McGahee reaches agreement with Denver on a 3-yr deal for $7,500,000, including $3 million guaranteed.
very interesting....looks like Denver may be quite the RB mess this year...
I interpret this news as more that Moreno will be the unquestioned main RB. McGahee has little left, and has poor hands. Maybe he takes a few goal-line carries, but Moreno should still see 250 carries and 50 catches in my opinion. Whether Moreno will do anything with those touches is up for debate, but I don't think McGahee is a threat at all.

Ignoring what Fox did with RBs in Car? 50/50

yikes, I don't agree with that at all but I guess we'll see. There's a new sheriff in town and I think everything is up in the air and Moreno has done nothing to warrant inheritting those carries. Fox has no ties to Moreno so even though he was a #1 pick it wasn't his pick so he has no vested interest to push "his guy", if anything the guys they sign will be more "his guys".

@NotoriousOHM (gaints writer): Jacobs contracted has been restructured.

This must mean they are about to pay Bradahaw.

Clayton tweets that Orton will not be a dolphin
He's actually tweeting now? I didn't Follow him when I saw he pretty much didn't use his account. Will have to follow him now.
He's been tweeting more than anyone the last few days.
He's been wrong or late a lot though. At least when he started. I already unfollowed him.
I'm at my computer with Espn on in the background the last few days and frequently when Clayton is giving updates they were flat out wrong. Or just guessing.I just started to ignore him.

Jets press conference tonight? Rumor is a possible introduction of Nnamdi.

Cimini saying "hang in there Jets fans...soon."

any Ronnie Brown rumblings? I have heard a peep on him and would have thought that he would've been more sought after...was never a huge fan but I know he's got a lot of them on here....

He's almost 30. Probably not going to be a ton of interest.

:confused:ANyway McGahee does not catch ball out of the backfield (2007 seems the aberration) so if he is going to Denver, then Moreno should have everything but short yardage sown up - and short yardage has already been discounted for Tebow...As for what Fox did in Carolina: it was only 50/50 when he had two RBs that were evenly capable (or did he give too many carries to Jonathan Stewart who was drafted higher? ;-) )Interesting to see what the split will be between DeAngelo and Jonathan with Ron Ribera in there calling the shots, though.ETA: the confusion is over the La Canfora tweet who says the deal is not doen afterall

Yeah, I think going back to MIA was his best option (for FF purposes), but with Bush there now, his options are slim. What about serving in a backup/3rd down role for Blount in TB? As a Bears fan, I wouldn't mind them looking into Brown, if the price isn't crazy... but maybe it is?

Looking at your list...Skins signed Josh Wilson, CB from Ravens and Chris Chester, OG from Ravens.

Any interest in a thread to track all the FA/Trade listings?

This was the easiest list I could pull of FA's or likely players to move. (Stole it from this dude)

I can add/remove anyone, who should or should not be one here, just let me know.

Will do my best to update once the craziness starts.

If you see a signing or trade, link me to a column with years and money and I will try to update.

 So happy they're not going that route.Give Henne one more year to develop, and draft a QB next year. Quite bringing in these retread QBs dumped by other teams.

With the release of A. Odom, trade of Chad O. and retirement of Carson Palmer, Bengals now have $49 M of cap room.

$49 mill in cap, better start somewhere.

Matt Moore signs 2 yr deal w/ Miami
So does that put an end to the Orton deal? If so you have to think that Denver dropped the ball.
The link I provided a couple posts later speculates that the Orton deal is dead.I'm not so sure. Anything can still happen.
Looks like its a game of chicken, on life support, but not dead.
Miami gets a promising young qb for a reasonable price and drives the price of Orton to the floor. I like the move. If they still get him, that would be Orton, Moore and Henne. Surely someone will step up.
So it still sounds like Denver is desperate to move Orton (Cap issues).....I'm thinking Seattle swoops in with a nice 3rd in 2013 for Orton deal. Nothing more than my thoughts, but Pete Carroll tweeted on Wednesday night that there would be more QB news coming on Saturday.
As a Dolphins fan, I am not happy about getting Moore instead of Orton.
At some point throwing high picks and big contracts at a new QB every year loses its luster.A.J. Feeley (2nd round pick trade)Daunte Culpepper (2nd round pick trade)Cleo Lemon (trade A.J. Feeley & 6th round pick)John Beck (2nd round pick)Chad Henne (2nd round pick)Tyler Thigpen (5th round pick)Pat White (2nd round pick)You could make an argument that Orton is different and I would probably agree with you, but creating a true competition between Henne and Moore where pick compensation and a high salary don't skew the decision is good for the team. Henne has been handcuffed by terrible play calling and sub-par talent around him for much of his professional career. I think he deserves one more year in a competition setting with a fresh OC and new running game. Moore is coming from bad conditions too and could be a great low risk/high reward pickup.
Don't forget Charlie Whitehurst last year...
