Gado good bet... (1 Viewer)

But to simply state that Green, who is coming off a major injury, owns the job is ridiculous.
I guess Green Bay's Offensive Coordinator is ridiculous then;
Offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski, one of first-year coach Mike McCarthy's more significant hires, indicated that Ahman Green stands to get the starting nod if the team re-signs the veteran free agent.

"If he's back, obviously it would probably be him. He's a Pro Bowl player," Jagodzinski said. "I'm not going to pigeon-hole anybody. That's Mike's decision on who's the guy. But I would imagine if he's back, as a Pro Bowl player, that's the kind of guy I'd want in there."
What else is he going to say? We brought back a guy entering the downside of his career who has a major injury that likely means he'll never be the same back, but we thought we'd give him a shot since no one else in the NFL wanted him and we could bring him back cheap with no risk on our part. This is coachspeak. Pure and simple. They always side with the veterans in the offseason. We'll see what happens during the season.
If you notice it says "if the team re-signs the veteran free agent."Jagodzinski made those comments while Green was still a FA. No reason to do that, unless that's how he thought.
Look, the bottom line is that neither one of knows who will start in GB this year. I haven't pretended to, but you seem to think your opinion is fact. I'm not going to continue to debate things with someone like that.
Dude grow up and get a life. It's not my opinion when I quote what Green Bays Offensive Coordinator says.

Actually, you seem to think that because we don't know who the starter will be, it must be a horserace between Green and Gado. That is NOT the case.

Actually, I said it's a wide-open competition involving any RB on the roster. Again, I just love people passing off their opinion as fact. It's my favorite part of this message board. Forgive me, but when were you named the head coach of Green Bay? Because that would be the only way for you to accurately make the above statement.

Your logic is flawed. Otherwise, Noah Herron is also in the running for this competition. My opinion is this: Green is the most likely candidate to be the starter come week 1. Arguing this is pointless. Davenport has an outside shot. As does Gado.

My opinion comes from watching oh, maybe 77 of the last 80 Packer games either live or on TV, following the Packers through both message boards and articles that appear in both in the Green Bay, Madison, and Milwaukee papers, and talking to countless Pack faithful - some not knowledgable at all, some who are good friends with regional scouts and such. And then there's the general FF stuff. So while this is an opinion, it is probably woth more than the casual fan's opinion. I know I couldn't offer as informed opinion on say the Vikings or Raiders.

Your opinion(correct me if I'm wrong) is this: Green, Gado, Davenport, Herron, and any other street FAs they pick up are all equally likely to win the starting job based on this wide-open competition, and trying to say that any one guy might have an edge on the other is impossible to predict at this point unless you are on the Packers coaching staff.

Look, this whole thing started with several people passing off as common knowledge that Green is the Week 1 starter and that the injury he is currently re-habbing is irrelevant and not a factor. I said that those two OPINIONS are ones I don't share, and they certainly aren't FACTS. To dismiss Gado or Davenport from the equation is ridiculous.

My OPINION is that Green is done. It happens all the time. Running back with a lot of mileage suffers a serious injury, people assume he can come back from it and resume his career right where he left off and... POOF!!! .... out of the league.

Terrell Davis. Jamal Anderson. Ricky Watters. Name running backs vanish from the NFL every year. Green might hang around for a little while longer, but I think his career, for all intents and purposes, is over.

Soooooo.... that leaves Gado or Davenport or someone else.

NOW we're talking. While I am optimistic Green has some gas left in the tank, it is quite conceivable that he is near the end of the road. I can respect this opinion. :argue:

how far did you check back?
His 8 year Pro career. Did not check College or High School though.
what about the work done on his shoulders?
What work on his shoulders? I had not heard this and can't find any mention of it. Are you sure about these shoulder injuries and Green having work done on them?
Last year he blew out the ankle
He did? I had not heard this and can't find any mention of it. Are you sure of the ankle injury?
...so add in the shoulder and ankle..
I wouldn't. I think you might be confusing those injuries with other backs and applying them to Green.
he also has a bad asthma problem that makes it hard to finish games..
Green has had this asthma problem his whole life. They keep oxygen tanks on hand as well. Not sure why you feel his asthma will effect him more in 2006 than it has in previous years?                 +--------------------------+-------------------------+                 |          Rushing         |        Receiving        |+----------+-----+--------------------------+-------------------------+| Year  TM |   G |   Att  Yards    Y/A   TD |   Rec  Yards   Y/R   TD |+----------+-----+--------------------------+-------------------------+| 1998 sea |  16 |    35    209    6.0    1 |     3      2   0.7    0 || 1999 sea |  14 |    26    120    4.6    0 |     0      0   0.0    0 || 2000 gnb |  16 |   263   1175    4.5   10 |    73    559   7.7    3 || 2001 gnb |  16 |   304   1387    4.6    9 |    62    594   9.6    2 || 2002 gnb |  14 |   286   1240    4.3    7 |    57    393   6.9    2 || 2003 gnb |  16 |   355   1883    5.3   15 |    50    367   7.3    5 || 2004 gnb |  15 |   259   1163    4.5    7 |    40    275   6.9    1 || 2005 gnb |   5 |    77    255    3.3    0 |    19    147   7.7    0 |+----------+-----+--------------------------+-------------------------+|  TOTAL   | 112 |  1605   7432    4.6   49 |   304   2337   7.7   13 |+----------+-----+--------------------------+-------------------------+I'd wait until we see how Green does starting late July and on, before sticking the fork in him. :shrug:

and one(opinion) that I was trying to get across to all when I made this post up..after reading that he cant run, practice or play until late training camp which starts in August had me really questioning his chances of playing much weeks 1-4. Thus knocking his FF value way down...now to go check on Green injury history because I really thought I remembered him having shoulder and an ankle problems in the past...I know he hurt his ankle and or knee on the same play he ripped the quad last year..but i need to check on any shoulder injury that i had thought I had remembered..laterD

Latest notes

May. 8, 2006 - 10:13 a.m. ET

RB Ahman Green says he won't be ready until late in training camp.

Green's quadriceps injury could eventually jeopardize his roster spot with Samkon Gado, Najeh Davenport, Noah Herron, and Arliss Beach also vying for carries.

May. 4, 2006 - 10:23 a.m. ET

Ahman Green (torn quadriceps) is "several months" away from returning to the field.

We've seen some earlier rankings treating Green like a RB2 in fantasy leagues. We don't think he's even guaranteed a roster spot after this news. He would be cheap to cut and Samkon Gado and Najeh Davenport will be learning the team's new offense under a new coaching staff before Green.

May. 1, 2006 - 1:49 p.m. ET

Ahman Green (torn quadriceps) won't be able to participate in Green Bay's upcoming minicamp.

His recovery is a major question mark. It's very possible Samkon Gado or Najeh Davenport could steal Green's carries if he takes too long to get healthy.

Mar. 27, 2006 - 10:50 a.m. ET

Ahman Green will have to compete with Najeh Davenport for carries again in 2006.

The Green Bay papers believe Green is the favorite to start, but we're not so sure. He's recovering from a torn thigh tendon and Samkon Gado and Davenport figure to be healthier. It will be an interesting three-way battle to watch in camp.

this should be what we all look at when we rank Green for this year right now and again is what i was trying to give all the heads up on when i first made this thread up

I've been using Gado as my 3rd down back and also using him in the I-formation twin TE set in Madden 06. He's been very productive playing behind Ahman Green. Frankly Davenport is to0 big and slow to make impact.

Long story short? Bump Gado up your charts and tell em Kevin sent you.

:o

The pattern was apparently set early in life for Ahman Green.

When he was six months old in Omaha, NE, little Ahman took his first steps -- running. Onlookers were amazed at his speed and balance.

Three months later, he was in the hospital with an intestinal disease that nearly killed him.

And so it has gone ever since, especially during his pro career with the Green Bay Packers . When he's healthy, the University of Nebraska grad is among the most feared and versatile running backs in the league. When he's not healthy -- which is often -- the Packers are in big trouble.

Since 2000, Green has amassed 9,036 yards from scrimmage, 6,848 on the ground. He has the speed to escape outside, the strength to run inside the tackles and is one of the best in the NFL at catching passes out of the backfield (although he's also one of the worst in the league at holding onto the ball when hit). Despite the injuries that have plagued his career, the 6-0, 218-pound eight-year veteran is just 1,360 yards shy of passing Jim Taylor as the team's all-time leading rusher.

Like it or not, injuries do affect NFL players' value

November 16, 2005

Did you see where Ahman Green says he is upset about the Packers not offering him a contract? I've also heard people say it's a shame Javon Walker didn't hold out in training camp for a new deal because now he's hurt and his market value is diminished.

I find this line of thinking amusing. If a player like Green or Walker is injured, why should they be entitled to the same money they would have been worth if they were healthy?

In a perfect world, every player would be paid precisely what his performance says he is worth. But that's not the world Green and Walker -- or any other NFL player -- lives in.

Green's value has been diminished because he's injured, and because he didn't play well before he was injured, and because he's soon going to be 29 years old. I don't blame the Packers for not offering him a contract. If I were running the team, I'd try to get him on the cheap, after Green realizes other teams aren't going to pay him big money.

As for Walker, if I were running the Packers I'd probably try to sign him to a one year deal. His market value is diminished because of his injury, but a one year deal would enable him to prove himself in 2006 and cash in the following season.

Teams can't afford to pay players based on what they've done for them in the past. It's all about what they are capable of doing in the future.

It's a cold business, but the truth is injuries affect value, and this should not come as a surprise to players.

Ahman Green was the starting running back for the Green Bay Packers until he ruptured his thigh tendon or quadriceps in a game against the Minnesota Vikings on October 23, 2005.

Although it's been reported as a ruptured thigh tendon there isn't enough information to determine which tendon is affected. There are multiple tendons in the thigh, but it's more than likely the quadriceps that is at fault here.

What is the quadriceps tendon? The quadriceps is the largest muscle in the thigh and it's responsible for moving your leg. When you want to extend your leg it contracts and pulls in. When you relax your leg it lengthens and allows full mobility. It allows your knee to move from straight to bent.

What effect does a torn quadriceps have on a person? Walking is almost impossible, sitting is painful. You lose mobility and the pain is incredible. If you try to walk your knee will buckle and you fall down.

ABOVE JUST DOES NOT SOUND GOOD FOR ANYONE..NEVERMIND AN NFL RB

How do you diagnose torn quadriceps? X-rays will show a shifted patella. External examination will reveal the tendon's movement.

How do you treat a torn quadriceps? Surgery is the only way to do it, and it cannot be done arthroscopically. You have to open the leg and reattach the quadriceps to the anchor points on the leg.

This is what you can expect after surgery to repair a torn quadriceps:

Six weeks or more in a full leg cast.

Pain.

Six to eight weeks of physical therapy to regain mobility.

Samkon Gado will be the leading rusher for Green Bay.

Ahman will never be the same player he was 3 years ago.

I don't see anything on that ankle or the shoulders...

can we ask DonnyT where he at least thought he heard that information... If there is absolutely no fact to either of them, I'd like to know why he said it.

regarding his opinion that Ahman Green's best day's are behind him.. I totally agree

:argue:
and one(opinion) that I was trying to get across to all when I made this post up..after reading that he cant run, practice or play until late training camp which starts in August had me really questioning his chances of playing much weeks 1-4.
Again, you totally dismiss Davenport.

From Foxsports.com today:

Samkon Gado, the out-of-nowhere rookie sensation the second half of last season, has the inside track to remain as the Packers' featured back for the start of next season.

Ahman Green, a four-time Pro Bowler, said during the team's first mini-camp that the medical staff won't clear him to return to the field until the latter part of training camp in August. Green missed the final 10 games of 2005 because of a torn right quadriceps tendon.

Green said he resumed running six weeks ago and has been able to go about 80 percent of full speed.

"I'm not going to lie, I am champing at the bit. But I know I have to be patient," Green said. "Once I get out there, I know I'm going to be 100 percent. But I can't rush it. I have to be patient and be prepared when I go out there."

The Packers also are without Green's top backup of the past four years. Najeh Davenport is on the mend from a broken right ankle sustained two weeks before Green went down.

Davenport said he's "in negotiations" with team doctor Pat McKenzie to gain clearance for the team's organized team activities, which start May 31. Davenport, though, isn't likely to return until training camp.

The longer Green and Davenport remain on the sideline, the better Gado's chances are of being tabbed the starter for the Sept. 10 season opener.

Gado handled most of the reps with the No. 1 offense in the May 5-7 mini-camp and will do the same in the final mini-camp, May 19-21. He's taken to the new zone-blocking scheme and exhibited a good burst in hitting the hole to the outside.

"You can never get too many reps, especially with somebody in my shoes," Gado said. "I'm still learning. I don't have a lot of reps under me, in college and even here. So the more I can get, the better prepared I will be for when Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport come back."

Gado, an undrafted rookie out of Liberty University, played in only eight games but led the Packers with 582 rushing yards and set a club rookie record with six touchdowns on the ground. He missed the final two games because of a partially torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

The injury didn't require surgery, and Gado said the knee was back to normal within a month.

First-year coach Mike McCarthy said the starting assignment won't be determined until the preseason but suggested that Gado will have a prominent role in the offense.

"You never have enough good running backs," McCarthy said. "We talk about it all the time being fresh. I'm not just talking about mentally, (but) physically during the course of a football game. Our starting point on offense is running the football. We're going to have enough carries for everybody."

Although I hope one guy emerges, it sounds like another RBBC to me :(

Green is coming off season ending injury. Why play him in a mini-camp when it means nothing? This says nothing more or nothing less about Green's chances of returning to greatness. Much ado about nothing here.
Hey CE..much ado about nothing..more like you are much ado about nothing..http://www.packersnews.com/archives/news/pack_26082430.shtml

McCarthy mentioned only one player who won’t attend, halfback Ahman Green, because of a charity commitment. Green is recovering from a torn quadriceps tendon and won’t be ready to practice until late August anyway

It says that Green is not healthy, which is something. If he is healthy you let him play in minicamp - I'd understand your point better if you were talking about a preseason game that he might actually get hurt in.
IT'S MINICAMP!! It means nothing. They are dry runs. If there is even a tweaked ankle by anyone they dont run around on it during mini camp. Also, it is May. There is still three+ months before any real games. Like I said before... much ado about nothing.
get in cash leagues with this guy...hurry!McCarthy mentioned only one player who won’t attend, halfback Ahman Green, because of a charity commitment. Green is recovering from a torn quadriceps tendon and won’t be ready to practice until late August anyway

how far did you check back?
His 8 year Pro career. Did not check College or High School though.
what about the work done on his shoulders?
What work on his shoulders? I had not heard this and can't find any mention of it. Are you sure about these shoulder injuries and Green having work done on them?
Last year he blew out the ankle
He did? I had not heard this and can't find any mention of it. Are you sure of the ankle injury?
...so add in the shoulder and ankle..
I wouldn't. I think you might be confusing those injuries with other backs and applying them to Green.
he also has a bad asthma problem that makes it hard to finish games..
Green has had this asthma problem his whole life. They keep oxygen tanks on hand as well. Not sure why you feel his asthma will effect him more in 2006 than it has in previous years?

the fork for the first part of the season...but he can now become a guy we can watch and hope to pick up trade for or draft very late and just hope he comes along and can help out around the second half of the season. He is still 29 so you never know he could become valuable if he can get healthy and in shape..either that or he is all done with many more set backs..let others draft this guy in the first 10 rounds guys for now and watch him carefully late in the summer to see if he is worth a roster spot..thats about all I was trying to get at when I first posted this thread..This does make Gado look much better and Daveport also..i would guess GB may even look to add another Vet. RB just in case since thye lost Fisher who I bet they wish they still had now...who are the young guys in GB now..what RB's did they draft who might get a chance now? I need to check...but I am beginning to think that this Gado kid has a chance to be a real steal in some of the ealry drafts and a guy who could but up a very nice year...bigtme early sleeper..

Day I of mini-camp2

Well it's been a long time since I've written anything on this blog. It's not really for lack of desire but more a lack of knowing how my own website works. I had to call my high school coach to figure out how this website forum operates.

I just purchased one of the Apple MacBook Pro's about two weeks ago and I'm still figuring out how to use it. See a picture of it - here . I love it though and, it is true what they say - "Once you go Mac, you never go back."

Today was the first day of the second mini-camp. It went well, but i felt like it wasn't as good as the first day of the first mini-camp. It wasn't as intense as the first. I would say it was because we made a lot of errors this minicamp (beginning with me), but I think we made just as many errors last minicamp but our intensity made up for it.

I haven't been doing as well as I would have liked. I thought I would get this system much easier than I am now since I did run a very similiar offense in college, but it's not translating as well as I would've like. I should have expected it to be a little different since I'm running it against the cream of the crop, but I still would have expected a little more out of myself.

I can understand the frustrations from the new coaching staff and even Coach Bennett. I think Coach Bennett's frustrations are more that he's seen me play better and expects me to play at that level. He pulled me aside today and was encouraging me to keep pushing.

I don't think it's so much that I'm not improving but I believe that I haven't crossed that learning curve yet. I am having some trouble picking up the reads but I think it's only a matter of time before I do get the hang of it, and hopefully that will translate into better performance. We'll have to wait and see tomorrow.

Day II of Mini-camp
Well today wasn't as great a day as I would have hoped for. Once again it wasn't so much about mistakes but missed reads. I came in early today and watched film of yesterday's practice before anyone came in, hoping to get a better grasp of how these plays are to be run. I thought I had it but we had another day of installation so the plays that I spent looking over we didn't even run today. Oh well, you live and you learn.

The first practice of the day seemed very similiar to yesterday's. A lot of mistakes and moderate intensity, but thankfully the second practice picked up considerably. We seemed to be hitting on more cylinders than before. Aaron Rodgers especially looked good to me. It's been amazing to see him develop. I don't think people really understand how good he can be.

Tomorrow is the last day of minicamp and I think many of us are already for it to be done with. We were sitting around the lunch table today asking ourselves how in the world we make it through six weeks of training camp but have a hard time making it through a three day minicamp, with no contact.

Ahman came today, and though he didn't practice, it was still good to see him there. William Henderson showed up as well and it's always good to have him up front. It made me feel a little better about my misreads because even a vet like Henderson is still working out the kinks of this new offense.

I'm going home (to South Carolina) tomorrow and can't wait. I'm sure my trainer back home has conjured up some interesting stuff for us to do already. He has a knack for coming up with the craziest, intense workouts. I'll have to tell hiim to give me a couple of days off, because though we haven't had any contact, my body is hurting.

Seems pretty high on Aaron Rogers and seems like he's not content with his own play so far.. Lets hope he keeps working hard, good to hear that the offense is similar to his college offense (although I can't imagine Liberty University's offense can be all that similar to the Packers)not so happy to hear that after 2 days of non-contact the little pudge-ball is already beat.. but I'm sure that come training camp he'll be ready to go

pretty interesting forum, hope he keeps it up

The Packers' new coaching staff must see something in running back Noah Herron. He has been getting snaps with the first offense ahead of Samkon Gado.
www2.jsonline.comNow we've got to pay attention to Noah Herron.
I saw that article, then saw these two which might add perspective:(Rotoworld) Noah Herron has seen time at fullback at Packers OTAs.

Impact: A Verron Haynes-type role could be in store for Herron, who lined up with the first-team offense at recent workouts. He's unlikely to win the starting tailback job. Tue Jun 13 7:21:00 p.m. ET 2006

(Rotoworld) Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Noah Herron, "definitely has a place on our football team if he continues to perform like he has."

Impact: It's a strong statement, as Herron would probably have to push Samkon Gado, Najeh Davenport, or fullback Vonta Leach off the roster. McCarthy sees Herron as a RB/FB, which could limit any fantasy upside.

It seems as though Herron might not make the team. Even if he does, his fantasy impact will be limited. FYI, these two articles came out after the one you cited which was this past Monday.

how far did you check back?

I'd wait until we see how Green does starting late July and on, before sticking the fork in him.
make that LATE August..and the season starts first week of Sept....get the fork out NOW.
Now that Green's readiness has been moved to the late August time frame, I'd say you're probably right DonnyT33.

Sam Gado who???????

Ahman Green looked nothing less than spectacular against the Bears.

We can officially end the talk about Gado this and Gado that....it's Ahman's team.
