Game Thread W1 - Cleveland V Tampa Bay (1 Viewer)

I will just never get some coaches. It's as if their thought process goes like this.... "Hmmmm... Every time that I give this guy the ball he explodes and does great things for our team. I just don't know if I should give him the ball or not..."
Delhomme with 37 pass attempts. Hillis/Harrison with 18 rushing attempts. I'm no rocket scientist, nor an NFL head coach...but I'm honestly shocked the game was as close as it was given this gameplan. Makes no sense at all.

Great gameplan by the Brownies...de-emphasize Harrison in favor of Delhomme and Hillis...I'm shocked that didn't work.
I know fantasy owners are mad, because they're staring at YPC numbers instead of watching the game. But the problem with Harrison in Real Football is that he doesn't move the chains... it's either a big play or he gets stuffed at the line.In today's game he had one play that helped the team (the 39 yard scamper)... the rest of his touches netted zero first downs and frequently left us in 3rd and long situations. Although he showed his speed on that big play, he also ran through a gaping hole and wasn't touched for the first 32 yards. Here's his play by play from today's game. (9:20) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 40 for 1 yard (54-G.Hayes). (4:39) 35-J.Harrison up the middle to CLV 29 for no gain (54-G.Hayes). (10:47) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 8 for 1 yard (54-G.Hayes). (10:09) 35-J.Harrison left tackle to CLV 4 for -4 yards (54-G.Hayes). (9:25) 35-J.Harrison left end to CLV 10 for 6 yards (91-S.White). <-- This was 3rd and 13... they gave him the short yardage. (15:00) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 24 for 1 yard (92-B.Price, 20-R.Barber). (12:36) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 45 for 2 yards (51-B.Ruud, 90-R.Miller). (6:37) 35-J.Harrison up the middle to TB 10 for 39 yards (26-S.Jones). (14:55) 35-J.Harrison right guard to CLV 24 for 6 yards (93-G.McCoy, 94-K.Moore). (12:48) 35-J.Harrison up the middle to TB 27 for 1 yard (94-K.Moore).I'm not saying Hillis is amazing... but he has a more punishing style and seems to drive for 4 to 7 yards more often. He's a better receiver, and (imo) a much better blocker. As I've said in previous posts... expect a full RBBC this year. My sense is that Hillis will probably earn more touches over the year than Harrison.

Great insight, thanks. I was on the fence about whether or not to bid on Hillis and this has swayed me to go for it.

I know your right in regards to Mangina splitting it up but...34 286 3 39 148 133 127 1 I'm just saying... he saved Mangina's job pretty much single handedly last year.

It's worth saying that there's no way to tell what Mangini is thinking at any given time. So RBBC is just my best guess.

Look up highlights from those games... I'm sure they're on YouTube. What you'll find is play after play where Harrison goes UNTOUCHED up the middle because the O-line and Vickers have sealed a hole 3 yards wide against a disjointed defense. He then runs free until someone catches up to him, at which point he probably goes down. That's not the signature of a "single-handed" effort. Nor is it a recipe for victory against a quality defensive front. This isn't an indictment of Jerome Harrison... he hits the hole decisively, finds second gear and goes. But he doesn't seem like the type of back that finds seams noone else can see, or pushes for 4 yards when it should have been a 2 yard loss. I'm a fan of Harrison. But fantasy owners should realize that Hillis brings something different to the table, and seems likely to stay in the mix if his fumbles don't become a habit.
