GB RB situation (1 Viewer)

Packers backfield in flux again

DeShawn Wynn, RB GB

News: The Wisconsin State Journal is among those reporting that Packers rookie RB DeShawn Wynn missed practice with a neck problem. Coach Mike McCarthy termed the problem as "neck spasms." Wynn says the injury occurred while lifting weights on Monday, and aggravated it during practice that afternoon. Ryan Grant -- not Vernand Morency -- got the bulk of the carries in practice on Tuesday, and rookie Brandon Jackson may end up resurfacing in the Green Bay backfield as well. Morency is still limited in practice and is likely to remain as a third-down back.

Analysis: Once again, it's time to monitor the Packers' backfield. If Wynn is able to play at Denver in Week 8, he should do quite well as the Broncos' run defense has yet to slow down anyone. If it's not Wynn, then whomever starts between Grant and Jackson would be decent. Morency would also be worth a look as a low-end No. 3 option. We'll be sure to bring you the latest on this RB-go-round.

Here we go again. I was using Wynn as trade bait and could really use any updates. Sounds like Jackson is buried on this depth chart.

Wynn has a long history of missing practice due to mysterious ailments (ask any Gator fan). He looks like he'll be fine for a good matchup vs DEN, but obviously watch for updates.

Per Fanball:

10/24/07 11:07 AMTHE NEWSRyan Grant took the majority of the first-team reps during practice on Tuesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He filled in for DeShawn Wynn, who was sidelined by a neck injury. Our ViewVernand Morency is still struggling with the knee injury he suffered on the first day of training camp, and rookie Brandon Jackson appears to have fallen behind after missing time with a shin injury.

Yeah, FBG's have been recommending Grant for awu=hile, so I picked him up last night, maybe he plays and does good and gets more time going forward??

I'm thinking that the original report made some faulty assumptions here. The Packer's coaching staff has said they plan to lay off Morency in practice during the week so the lack of reps doesn't necessarily mean he won't be the starter and get most of the load on Sunday. (assuming no Wynn)

Agreed, though it wouldn't surprise me to see Morency still limited to third downs and passing situations. He is the most explosive runner they have, but he still has lingering injury issues which is why they've been resting him in practice.

Should we revisit this again? Will Grant again make this interesting, or will it no longer be RBBC like earlier in the season?
