General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

I'm not even sure its just that. I recently had 2 bows with identical base damage, both had frost enchantments and the game was telling me that the one with 16 points of frost damage (elven, flawless) was a better option than the other which did 20 points of frost damage (Finriel's end, smithed up a bit).
how does the game tell you this? i never noticed how to see preferred weapons.
Go into the weapons menu. You will see a small icon (triangle) to the right of each of the preferred weapons and armor. For example in this picture, look at the Elven Armor.http://skyrim.dk/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Skyrim-inventory.jpg
that marking means it's part of your favorites menu for quick access. i was wondering how the game shows you which is the better weapon

no, you are not looking close enough. The marker on the left of the item designates favorites, I am talking about the marker on the right of the item.

In the picture above, Banded Iron Shield has a "favorite" icon to the left of it.

In the picture above, Elven Armor has a "preferred" icon to the right of it.

Cool! It seems to be generally helpful for at least base damage or defense but there is some question as to how or if it considers any enchantments on an item.

Finally got the whole freeze shout. Turning something into a block of ice is fun.
I just got the first word yesterday and I didn't have any success using it on a Giant or a Mammoth.
Yeah first word is pretty weak, second word is a little better on weaker enemies and third word is all the difference. Froze several demora solid as a block in one go.
I don't have any of them :kicksrock: Clearly I have to hit more barrows or something.

Yeah I am trying to work in some side quests that take you places there are Word walls.

Ahhh...I've just been trying to clean up all the side quests and misc. quests while I work on the big questlines, and haven't hit all that many. Every time I want to go in one direction, I'm reminded of how little I've done in the grand scheme of things

That's my biggest problem. I'm level 32 and still havent seen the Greybeards yet. I have to make sure I get on that the next time I get on.

Wow, 3 days since last post. Guess people have moved on. It was a good run.

I'm still loving the game! Ever since I start my second character I have had more fun then with the first.I'm more of a Heavy Armor wearing Archer/ One-handed hybrid. The Slow time Archer perk is MONEY!

Finished main quest last night:

WTF? They spend 5 years developing this game and can't even come up with a good cut-scene sequence for this? You get a few light-hearted cheers and a new shout which is essentially the same as a good conjuration spell?

Also, I did not kill Parthanax prior to completing the main quest. Mistake?
Now taking suggestions on great side quests and other quest lines. Here's what I have done:

Mags College main quest line (only done JZargo's Flame Cloak from side quests)

Thieves Guild quest line (no side quests)

Daedric: Hangover one, Malog Bal, Clavicus Vile, and the one in Breaking Dawn

Side quests: Forsworn conspiracy, burned house in Malthar, a few others

The Companions Quest line is fun. I would recommend you hit that next, especially if you want to full around with being a werewolf.

My last session I decided to go see the Greybeards...problem was I couldn't even find a freakin' way up to where they are at! After killing another horse on a cliff, fighting a dragon, and getting tired of trying to climb an impossible mountain, I gave up. I figure I was just approaching it from the wrong direction, although I tried different spots, since that area is pretty huge. Went off to find that sword for Mjoll and ended up getting hitched to her. I'm still under level 20, not that has anything to do with reaching the 'Beards. I was thinking I'd give that another shot sometime in the late 20's/early 30's.

Approach the mountain from the east side. There is a small town there with a bridge that leads to the path going up.

Anyone else finding the Invisibility spell to be totally ineffective? Even if I turn invisible before coming into sight of any enemies, they always act like I was visible when I get nearby.

Yea, but how many hours did you dump into it?This game is now almost 4 months old. Ive dumped 150+ hours into it and probably a hundred more while asleep at the controls. Ill come back to it here and there and ultimately finish it.

I'm not. I just started making my own for my Archer/ One-Handed guy and I've had a lot of success with it. The ONLY time I had the issue you mentioned was when I used a Brief Invisibilty potion (20 seconds) and tried to run up behind a Giant...I just figured he heard me. When I sneak, I can literally be right next to people and they don't detect me.

You could always use candlelight spell in night time. I love that spell. Especially in dark caves. Its easy to miss a chest.

Loving the skeleton key. Finished Forbidden Legend last night. I think I'm going to go talk to Aventus tonight and start the brotherhood quest.

Working some side quests today. Finished up Mind of Madness, that was pretty good. Wabbajack seems fun. Working Blood on the Ice right now, about 2/3rds of the way along or so I think. Next is a word wall in Silverdrift Lair.

Any cool uses for this? does it work on dragons? I just through it in a chest with all the rest of my junk.

It's supposed to work on dragons but I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet.

Well after thinking I must have messed it up somehow I managed to stumble on to Sam Guevenne and got A Night to Remember started. He was hanging out at the Winking Skeever apparently. Which I had been avoiding since I was holding off on Diplomatic Immunity. Like look I will get the Sanguine Rose after all.

Haven't played in a month, just too much other stuff going on. Decided to start a new char tonight.

Booted up the desktop and got a message about some new AMD 12.1 display drivers so loaded them up. Now my character's face flickers and when I go into menus, the other 2 monitors turn yellow or flicker yellow. Apparently it's a problem lots of people are having with the 12.1 drivers. Anyone here found a fix for it?

It's not bad enough to be worth going back to the previous drivers I was using, the new one has a big FPS improvement and it's really only in the menus that the issue is noticeable, but still just cosmetic. Doesn't break anything.

With the Sanguine Rose it appears they fixed it so you have to go have all the conversations at least. I had read you could go straight to Morvunskar after cleaning the temple. And while I usually try to not take shortcuts I was trying to save myself some time tonight. The portal wouldn't spawn though until I talked to everyone.

I'm doing this quest right now. I have one piece to collect. I have turned in the other two. Will I have an opportunity to keep the dagger?

I have read that there is a way to "glitch" it out of the locked container, but I'd rather take an easier rout. I'm not opposed to killing the guy.

ETA - Never mind - I worked it out.

I already asked this in the video game thread but it might get more play here....

Did any of you play Witcher 2 for the PC? It came out for the 360 and it looks simply amazing.

Finished up Diplomatic Immunity. On my way to Riften. Will probably veer back off the main story line when I get to where I have to go to Blackreach, that may have to wait for another weekend given what everyone has said about the size of the dungeon.

Trying to decide between companions and getting all remaining shouts. Going to check out mind of madness. Good title. Blood on the ice sounds good too.

I did Diplomatic Immunity last night. For some reason I thought it made sense to leave everything I wouldn't need at the house in Whiterun and only take the gear I wanted to use. As I'm handing over my stuff to Malborn it occurs to me that I am giving him my only set of armor and don't have any other clothing. Luckily my Nord is pretty buff and I can deal with the stares and comments as I stroll down to the stables wearing only a loincloth. So I'm talking to Delphine to get the party clothes when she suddenly stops in mid conversation and draws her bow. Apparently a blood dragon decided it was a good time to attack Solitutde. I can't engage Delphine in conversation with the dragon near so I have no choice but to kill a dragon naked without weapons. Luckily some Solitude gaurds were around to help kill the dragon and they didn't even comment on my appearance or arrest me for indecent exposure. Is the dragon part of the quest or did I just get lucky?

I had the same thing happen last time I started this part of the quest. I went back to an earlier save after it proved to hard for me at level 12. This time I kept the Archmages robes, Morokei's mask and the Galdur Amulet. I gave everything else to Malborn. Getting attacked while essentially naked on this quest seems to be fairly common based on what I've read.
