General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

Been a quiet week at Che NCC. So I got in some more play. Knocked out two more contracts and have now received the last one to kill the pirate chick. I also combined a contract with picking up Grimsever so now when I finish the DB line I will be ready to go win the hand of Mjoll. So if I get the chance I will finish off the pirate tonight and depending on how long that takes I'll wrap up the DB line as well. I am glad I decided to play it. As I mentioned I started with a new character because my old one, while powerful, had some holes those included sneak, lock picking and a late recognition of the bows strength. Well I have definitely got all that covered as well as having my Destruction coming along nicely. Pretty happy with how it is going. Doing the crawl last night for Grimsever was just so much easier with the enhanced bow and sneak it was almost like playing a different dungeon.
Sneak is incredibly overpowered. My last character I actually decided NOT to level sneak because it made the game too easy. It's so OP it's broken imo.

Especially when you add enchantments to it! I have a sneak archer that can damn near one shot most anything while sneaking. I can even one shot a dragon if I am sneaking, it's nuts. I will use the Sanguine Rose, drop into sneak and then it's over for the enemy.

The Sanguine Rose is pretty cool though. I have the drinking game waiting for me.

Well another weekend another bunch of time spent. And really I am more surprised all the time by the way sneak changes the game. I did two dungeons that were really tough last time and they were well, easy. I did the second Galdur crawl even though I was looking for a word of power. You get to one part where your are trapped in a room with about 8 draugh of various levels. I beat this last time through but it was tough. This time I went into sneak as soon as the lights went out and wiped them out with the bow before Mjoll could even engage any of them. Then the Galdur brother himself I put down in a few bow shots.

Also I did Potema where at the end you have to beat a bunch of draugh with some hard core types thrown in and they keep reanimating. Sat at the top of the entryway in sneak. They knew I was there but they couldn't locate me. I put them all down with the bow. Even when I beat it before it was a close thing and it took a coupe of tries. Now part of it is having seen it before so I have an idea what is coming. But sneak definitely changes the game and the bow just adds to that.

Oh and decided not to marry Mjoll. She is immortal regardless and my character wants to play the field a bit. I did adopt a second kid. Got a boy and a girl.

Ok so haven't played this game in months. Did my first playthru as a magic character and got bored around level 40. Getting the itch to create a new character. What's more fun? Sneak/arrow character or two handed bezerker?

Best weapon you can get early on.

Well if you get your sneak and bow high enough you are pretty much unstoppable which can be fun. My next character is going to be an Orc I think.

I just dont think I have the patience to sneak around everywhere and Im terrible at aiming (which is why my first character was magic based lol)

The aiming does take a bit of practice. And I don't sneak everywhere. I know people sneak in towns and stuff to up their level but I haven't found that at all necessary. Just sneaking around when necessary(like dungeon crawls, infiltration quests and assassinations) and a few bucks on training has me in the 60's and my character level is 26. At this point I can practically put the arrow in someones chest before letting it go and they still don't see me most of the time.

To be honest I aim the best in sneak mode, even when I have been found I still get in sneak since it's easier to aim.

Played a character who sneaked everywhere even in combat, rp'd that he was a little person and incredibly weak fortunately with crossbows you can leverage the draw string, otherwise he would have been useless in a fight. Marksmen, speechcraft, alchemy, illusion, alteration, sneak, pickpocket. Lol rp.

Yeah it is easier to aim in sneak.

First toon was a Katjit Ranger/Sneak build.

Second was a Raging Maniac Nord who weidled a two handed Axe.

I haven't played atank build in a very long time so it was far more fun the second time around.

BTW - I have been naming all my new game characters (in all games ) Raylan Givens for about a year now.

Nobody has mentioned the new patch that introduced Legendary skills?
I hadn't noticed. I guess you can reset your level with that as well to pick up more perks. I'll have to pay more attention next time I get on.
Yeah, you mark the skill as Legendary (not sure that does anything for you), it resets your skill back to L15, and you get all of the perks back. It's odd not being able to sneak like I used to, but should allow me to recoup some of the perks I screwed up spending in the beginning. Or, I could just start over with a clear sense of what I want to do with my character.

So if say I mark Smithing as legendary. I don't really use it and I spent a perk on it. Would I get that perk back to spend as I want? Or does it reset you completely across the board?

I had Smithing at 100 so I could do some Dragon armor. Once I did that, no reason to have smithing anymore so I mark it as Legendary. It resets me back to L15 in Smithing and gives me back the 5-6 perks I had spent in Smithing to use elsewhere.

Two-handed warhammer wielding orcs are a lot of fun.

Woa. Got to fire this game up again now. Sounds like an interesting update.

Yeah I am thinking a true tank. Heavy armor, heavy weapons, no subtlety.

So spent this weekend on Solstheim. Friggin cultists were getting to be a bother what with the multiple attempted assassinations. I mean I'll give you one. We all make mistakes. But after the third time I'd had enough. Man did they kick it up a notch. I don't know if it's coincidence with my level or intentional with the DLC but every dungeon is chock full of upper level enemies. Deathlords are rampant and draugr wrights are pretty much the new restless draugr. Did the local stuff to get the new house. It's actually pretty cool. Several mannequins and lots of weapon displays. An enchanting table, full smith setup, etc. I was really liking the DB sanctuary but I think this is my new favorite. And it was kind of fun taking out the Morag Tong, just a bunch of pretenders. About halfway through the dragon born quest. I am digging the dragon aspect shout. You can only use it once a day but I think it will serve me well back in Skyrim as I finish that story line.

Also at this point I am thinking they blew it with Destruction magic. It just doesn't level up enough to stay effective. I mean even with flame spells maxed out I get more damage from my bow(got my first deadric weapon drop and it was a bow)and glass arrows. If I am sneaking I get over 200 points of damage with the Deadric per shot. My best fire spell I think is at 40 with a skill level of 68 or so. I think next time I concentrate on different schools of magic. Probably conjuration and alchemy. I haven't spent as much time on alchemy as I have in past and I think it's been a mistake.

A maxed out, pimped up bow will always be more powerful than Destruction magic at its best. Though, don't underestimate the power of Lightening Storm, the Master level shock magic spell. With the right perks, and the Ethereal Form shout to warm it up, that spell is devastating. I took Alduin out with it like he was a puppy with a pink ribbon.

If you do, make sure you head to the Orc settlement south of Riften as soon as possible. The Daedric weapon you get there is the best warhammer in the game. It looks like a Daedric hammer except it glows green. Every hit sucks away 50 stamina from your enemy, so you never get tired swinging it. Combine it with the armor-ignoring perks in Two-Handed, and you can unleash power attack after power attack for insane damage.

I don't have Lightning Storm yet maybe I should look into picking it up. I really like doing the magic as it's such a big part of the game. I do think I have skimped on conjuration though. Getting the ancient assassin has helped me realize I have left a lot untouched.

I'll definitely keep that in mind.

So I'm at a part where I need to bring a person to sacrifice at an alter but I can't seem to get it done. I've brought a mercenary with me and a follower. Neither of which could be sacrificed. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the follower you have they may be essential and can't be sacrificed. The mercenary should work though again unless it's an essential NPC although I don't think any of the mercenaries are. It should be as simple as telling them "I need you to do something" one of the choices should be to activate the altar, once they do that they will be stuck to it and then you kill them however you like.

Thought I tried that but must have missed it I guess. Thanks.

Arrgh! So I was doing some playthrough last night. Doing Hidden Knowledge which is when you get the second word of power for bend will. But I screwed up. I forgot to choose one of the bubbles to increase a shouts power. Man that thing took forever and I don't know if I want to redo it.

I had the same problem. I assumed it was a bug and stopped trying.

ETA: I tried using non-essential followers too. I brought a Dark Brotherhood stooge there and it still didn't work.

I rented that person from the Drunken Huntsmen in Whiterun and had the same issues. I didn't realize that you have to like send him onto the cross type of thing. Have him "do something for you" then move the curser onto that cross and it should take.

I did all that. Ordered the guy to the pole and everything. My version is FUBARed.

I checked the UESP wiki and they had this:
If other methods fail, take your follower to the Pillar of Sacrifice. Cross to the far side nearest the fire and you should see a white arrow location marker near outermost ring. Position your follower as close to arrow as you can, usually by crossing over and out of circle and having your follower join you. Once in position, activate the pillar which should now work normally.

So spent some more time on Solstheim. There can be only one and I am it. Take that Miraak. This DLC is definitely worth the cost of admission. Picked up some new shouts, some new spells and generally is fun. I haven't completed everything on the island but I felt like going back to Skyrim for a bit and pursue the main story. But then I got caught up in some side quests. So I ended up word wall hunting instead of actually doing the quest. And I am actually thinking of pursuing more Daedric missions for a while. Just got hit up to do the Boethiah quest and I also have the drinking game waiting. Still so much to do.

So we had a death in our cat family. I brought in some strays last Sept. Everyone has been doing fine except for a sudden relapse into fleas. They had them when I brought them in and we got it cleaned up. They never go outside so I must have brought some in and we have them again. Anyway they are nuisance but not the reason for the death and we about have them wiped out again. Yay baking soda and salt. So I get home Friday thinking I'll kick back and get my game on for a few. I notice our black cat hasn't come to see me so I go looking for her. She was cold and stiff in one of her favorite places. Never saw it coming she seemed fine the day before, even if a little standoffish but that was how she was anyway. So that kind of took the wind out of my sails for anything much game wise.

However by Sunday I decided I'd wallowed in it and blamed myself for long enough and decided to go for some distraction.

So I decided to start working the Daedric missions I like. I love the Mace of Bolag as it really fills soul gems up quick. I did some drinking with my buddy Sanguine and got the Sanguine Rose which, with leveled daedra, can some in handy. Got Mehrune's Razor but I really like this one better in the earlier games. And I got Azura's star. I had gone with making it the Black Star before but it really isn't all that big a deal. I am collecting so many black soul gems lately it doesn't seem to be an issue. Oh and thanks to the MoB they are full as well. I was already in possession of the Masque of Clavicus Vile and Saviors Hide. So I got a nice little daedric collection started now. There are a couple of others I'll do like Discerning the Transmundane to get the Oghma Infinium. The Whispering Door and the Mind of Madness. Not sure if I'll mess with the rest of them or not.

Sucks man :no:Mind of Madness is great, Sheogorath is the best Daedra story wise.

Sorry to hear about your cat NCC. :(
Thanks. We hadn't had her long but they grow on you so quickly and I really feel bad like I must have missed something that should have been a clue that she was in distress. But they say cats are great at hiding symptoms. Still you always think there was something you could have done.

Yeah I almost started this one last night but it was getting late and I want to enjoy it.

Elder Scrolls Online coming next year to PC and next gen consoles...
Worm, can you cut and paste the article. I am blocked at work but would like to read about it now
It's not much of an article, mostly just the trailer.

"Never have our choices weighed more heavily," boasts the narrator. That's hard to believe, considering we're talking about an MMORPG—but hey. Awesome-looking (and sounding!) trailer. Those first-person shots really help give it that Elder Scrolls feel. And... oh, yeah. The game's coming to next-gen consoles, too.

TES Online's game director, Matt Firor, said the team at Bethesda Softworks was "thrilled" to bring the game to consoles, as it is "something our fans have been requesting since we first announced the title." He went on to add that "everyone will be able to play The Elder Scrolls Online the way they want to play."

The way we want to play, then. Sounds good to me! The Elder Scrolls Online is coming to a PC, PS4 or Xbox One near you in Spring, 2014.
