General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

As far vampirism and other diseases, even though this may not help you at this point, in general I make it a habit of going to a shrine frequently since that cures diseases.  Any time I am near one I activate it just in case.
I tried that, didn't work.  Neither did a cure disease potion.

did you read the note from the cultist?

You take a ship there from Windhelm.  You'll get there eventually.
Ah, gotcha - part of the Dragonborn DLC? I did read the note, but I am horrible with remembering these names.   I actually haven't been anywhere wintery yet, so I haven't made it in that direction on the map.  Just ended up in Solitude a couple nights ago for a Guild quest, but other than that I have just been wandering around Riften, Whiterun, Morthal, and Falkreath.  Haven't been N or NE very far or over to Markarth yet this game.

Also, I thought I remember reading to wait a little bit before doing much with the Dragonborn DLC until you have leveled up a little, but maybe that's not the case?  Now that I know there is some sweet *** armor, I might be heading over there soon.

You'll need to be a higher level and have mastered a lot of shouts. That guy's not easy under lvl 40 or so IIRC, think he's at min lvl 30 but will scale with your character lvl.

agreed.

i just downloaded the Dragonborn DLC and hit up Solstheim for the first time yesterday. had to pay 500 round trip from Windhelm (found the boat/captain on the docks). once you get there the first time, you can fast-travel from the Solstheim icon in the upper RH corner of the main map.

i'm level 48 (Altmer/Archer) and got into a couple of skirmishes with Ashmen(?) and these little ####-Gibbons (my name for them) that attack in groups. died a couple times, and used more health potions than i thought i wood. Deathbrand quest seems cool - i got the helmet so far - and i'm intrigued by the statue-thingys the island residents are building. and Glover Mallory is way less of a phallus than his brother Delvin in Riften.

have you found a shout wall yet?  done anything with the Greybeards?
I should have specified.  I have trained with the Greybeards, and I think they sent me on one quest.  I have found other shouts on walls, but I have never used a shout in combat.  I just never seems to occur to me for whatever reason.  I couldn't even tell you which ones I have - I will have too look when I fire it up next.

ah. gotcha. Unrelenting Force is useful if you get backed into a corner and need a respite, of if you want to blow some fools off a mountainside cliff.

I never use shouts in combat except for when you need to use Dragon Rend.  I tend to use Whirlwind Sprint more than other shouts.  In general, shouts are an important part of the game, but not necessary to win fights except when you need to use Dragon Rend.

i kinda like Become Ethereal: if i'm up on top of a cliff or waterfall and don't want to spend time carefully climbing down or take some circuitous route, i'll fire that shout up and take a swan dive to the bottom.

I use shouts occasionally. Mostly for crowd control. Slow time is fun. Freezing someone into a block of ice is fun. But I don't really use them much.

The one to summon Durnehviir is awesome, loved doing that one.

Can't even tell you guys how much I am.enjoying cloud storage. I can pick up everything. Got encumbered twice in one dungeon, summoned the portal and dumped the stuff in. Should be a mod by itself.

Well, I still haven't gone many more places, but last night I focused on getting my light armor up since I have been running into trouble.  I had it close, but got my smithing up to 70 so I made myself a nice glass armor set and upgraded it.  I think I went from about 130 in armor to over 300, so I am now ready to wander out some more!!

Smithing can be helpful

The shouts I have found to be useful to me are

Marked for Death

Unrelenting force

Dragonrend

Summon Durnehviir

Become Ethereal

Aura Whisper.

I made it through a lot of the Guild missions.  Does anything negative happen if you just don't take the Skeleton Key back where you are supposed to?  Seems like it's too good of a tool to pass up for the rest of the game and I wouldn't have to worry about spending anything on lockpicking.

Unrelenting force is great like someone said above for giving yourself distance. If you going against a band of 4/5 high level mages just shout and it gives you enough time to cast off a fast heal or two.

I had a dawnguard quest glitch, and it's unfixable. I didn't realize the Elder scroll was in that machine where you transcribed it, and I returned to the guy, and then helped him by getting the blood (which is the second half of that same quest.) I found out that glitches the scroll - the quest marker vanished, and if you return to the machine and grab it, it just vanishes from your inventory. I even tried the cheat room and add the scroll, but the game seems to know it's not the real one, I suppose.
Oh boy. This is where Im at. I got the blood collecting quest assigned but have not done it yet. Does that mean I can go grab the scroll from the machine still?

I don't know - if you have a quest marker for getting the scroll, you should be ok. If you don't, though, it might be already glitched.

Really stupid bug, as it's so easy to leave with the scroll still in the machine.

I was able to go back and grab the elder scroll. So it sounds like it glitches only if you complete the blood collection quest. Thanks for the warning...saved my ***!

Not sure if I mentioned it here, but getting all the Stones of Berenziah yields massive amounts of gems everywhere you go. I went through one large Nordic ruin (Forelhost) last night and got well over 100 gems, most of them flawless. It doesn't really matter since I have well over a million septims, but it has let me go legendary in smithing 7 or 8 times...my forearms are huge now.

Yeah, THAT's why your forearms are huge.

Come to think of it, I have never used a scroll either.  WTF do they do?
Early on they get you killed.  As in, giving you a false sense of power by arming something and charging into a room full of bandits only to learn you still need a good measure of magicka to set them off. They're like a one time use spell you can use even if you don't otherwise know that spell. But you still need the correct amount of magicka.

I keep forgetting how underpowered magic is in this game. I'm level 32 and trying to use mostly destruction, specializing in lightning. Several perks in destruction - adept at half cost, dual cast, stagger, and lighting has extra damage. And I'm still fighting for my life most of the time. I'm not complaining  - it's still fun but if I had any other build from sneaky archer to tank I'd be a semi-god by now. Smithing and enchanting increase the effectiveness of armor and weapons, but there's no equivalent for spells. I have enchantments that make them use less magicka but nothing to make them more powerful. Seems imbalanced.

It is underpowered at higher levels . There are a couple of mods that address that issue

I've never even considered trying to be a Mage...my aim is atrocious.

Im all about the conjuration though. I love pulling a couple allies out of my bunghole when the going gets tough.

Between that, all the conjuration spells I have, resurrections, and the shout you get after defeating Alduin, I can basically just sit down and have a smoke while I let my minions clear out a room.
That doesn't even count dragon summoning or animal allegiance shouts while outdoors. Or my follower. Or Shadowmere.

Playing on PS4, I downloaded like 30 mods total, many of which make the enemies stronger and add new kinds of enemies.  I am not sure which mod, or mods, this is due to, but Labyrinthian has several of these new monsters.  I think it may be the new boss monsters mod.  There are 2 unique dragons in the interior of Labyrinthian in the first part of the interior, in addition to the skeletal dragon that is normally there.

There is also a werewolf/shade-beast boss level monster near the exterior entrance to Labyrinthian.  It looks like a giant werewolf (at least double the size of a normal one) but it's like a shade/ghost, not a fully material/normal looking werewolf.  I have 100 sneak with all of the perks so I was able to get past him, but he is really tough.  I tried shooting arrows at him but they just go through him.  I have been to Labyrinthian a couple of times, and one time I went there and was sneaking past the werewolf when a dragon attacked.  It landed and the werewolf ran over and killed the dragon with 1 hit.  It was a regular dragon, but I am still reluctant to engage him hand to hand if he can kill it with 1 hit.

I decided to give it a try and fight this thing.  It's called Nightmare Beast.  There is a mod where you can get a ring that adds 100,000 hit points so I put it on.  It almost killed me even with over 100,000 HP, but I managed to kill it.  One more hit from him and I would be dead.  Definitely the hardest monster in the game that I have encountered, by far.

I like the Dragonborn DLC a lot and it adds a lot of extra content, but that fight with Miraak in the end is such a huge pain in the neck.  That stupid bug where if you hit him too hard too quickly so he doesn't get all of his HP back when absorbing the dragon soul is so hard to overcome.  Instead of making it so he gets a certain amount of HP from absorbing the dragon soul, they should have just made it so he is fully healed.  I am surprised some of the bugs, like this, carried over to PS4 considering they knew about it for a long time and a lot of people complained about it from the previous generation of systems.

One thing I did that eventually worked is after the first time he kills a dragon and absorbs it's soul (and he isn't fully healed so he is stuck as invulnerable) is to get back on the dragon who took you there.  That causes the other dragon to land and if you kill that dragon, it will heal him the rest of the way.  As long as the dragons he takes out are dead, you can then just go after him full force since he will finally die at that point.  Its not that simple and easy, though.  I even tried Dragonrend to get the dragons to land so I could take them out, but that didn't work.  It took at least 15 tries until I finally got around that problem and finished him off.

Back to playing this game again, but I am having trouble with the Dark Brotherhood missions.  I am high level in general and have 100 in sneak and all of the perks.  I am basically invisible, but whenever I kill a contract target, even though I don't get caught and nobody saw anything, I am being hit with the 1000 gold bounty.  This never happened with the regular game so it must be a side effect of a mod.  Has anyone else run into this issue?  Do you know what is causing it?  In looking at the mods I have active, none of them seem related to anything like this so I am not sure which one could be the problem.

I've got a current game of Skyrim I'm trying to finish because it will be the last game I play on PS3 (I already have a PS4). I know I need to move the main story along to finish it, but I keep getting sucked down the rabbit hole on all these side quests. I'm already the leader of the mage college, the leader of the Companions, and one step away from being leader of the thieves guild...but not the dark brotherhood, #### those guys. I've got Serana as my companion, so I still need to finish the dawnguard stuff, and I haven't even started on the dragonborn quest line yet. I've got more money than I know what to do with, chests full of crap that I'll never use, and a house with a wife and 2 freakin' kids...and a GD pet fox!

I think I'm ready for the game to be over, but I just can't seem to quit it...

Except for the PS3 thing, are you me?
