Hope so as I have gotten to the unplayable lag after 11 MB save file.

Also, I am level 41 and have only done a few of the steps along the main questline...everything seems really easy, I am not even really sneaking in dungeons anymore and the elder dragons, giants, Dharmar (sp?), etc. are a cakewalk. May have to start over and stay with the main quest so it is more of a challenge. Also running a tank and am kind of interested in the magic only or magic/sneak build instead so might just do that.
This happened to me in Morrowind and Oblivion. I ran around, finishing all the guild quests, and then never bothered finishing the main quests because they were too boring/easy. I finished about 90%+ of the storyline then just let it tail off.
turn up the difficulty?
Nah. At a certain point you just reach God-mode. Difficulty slider really doesn't matter.
what level are you? I'm 26, and feel like I'm nowhere near this point yet.

Just as I got done finishing up the Companions quest line I got roped in to the Dark Brotherhood. I don't really know when I will get around to saving the world or whatever it was I started out to do.

Just as I got done finishing up the Companions quest
Quick question about this
after being confirmed into the companions(i think) I was sent to kill some witches and take a head back to the Companion leader. I did that and when i go back the Silverwhatver dudes had attacked and killed the leader. Now there are three people stuck on the steps standing over the dead bodies. That's been at least 10 hours of gameplay ago. Is this a bug? One dude is the owner of the weapons store in Whiterun and he's never in his store anymore. I'm also stuck with 20lbs of dead witches heads because I can't drop quest items <_<

Did you choose to turn into a werewolf?
I went werewolf for awhile, but it didn't really fit my play style. So at the end of the line I killed my inner beast also.

I'm home sick. You would think perfect way to play some skyrim. But I'm watching fresh beat band all day instead

Where do you pick up the thieves quests? I might want to check that out. I just started the second act of the main quest.
I feel ya. Did an AM session from 3-6 Saturday night, kid woke up, and the next four hours were spent watching Curious George. Wife is adamant about our 3-y-o not seeing the game.Managed to beg way into another hour or so before went to the Muppet Movie and then Bears game with Dad. Got some time in last night though.

BTW, Muppet Movie is AWESOME.

I was a werewolf by like level 7, the companions was the first place I started. I think I've activated the powers exactly twice in the last 50 or so hours of gameplay.

I'm not sure because after killing the witches I just went right in to the next part of the quest. I am guessing that if you continue on with the companions stuff (there is a funeral and some revenge) that all will go back to normal in the town. Did you get more than one head?

So I broke down and got this before the holiday. Up to level 9, having done only the main quest to the point where

you learn a second shout from the graybeards
. After that I basically did a lap around the SE part of the map, stopping into towns and talking to as many people as I could so that I have a lengthy list of side quests. I picked the lizard race based on it looking cool and figuring being amphibious could be a big plus. I've had a lot of fun clunking some things with a war hammer, and sprinting away from other things.

Some questions, if anyone feels like answering:

Supposing I happen upon a cave/mine/dungeon. Should I go in and clear it, or will that mess up some other quest that will come later?

I think I get the soul-catching/enchanting thing. Is this right?

You need to cast a soul catching spell on something, kill it, and have in your possession a soul gem large enough to hold the soul. Aside: Is this true of dragons too? The one that I helped kill in the main quest, his soul went into me but I don't think I had any gems. Or is that just bc it's part of the main story line? Then you can take the gem with a soul in it and smith an enchanted weapon?
What perks have you gotten that you liked or didn't like? I've been hoarding them because it seems like my ability to get them will be limited, i.e. doesn't seem like eventually I will be able to have all the perks.

When you finish the whole line of companions quest you will have a chance to get rid of your werewolfiness like you did for the dead leader.

The dragon souls are stored separately. They are in the "Shouts" menu if you go into "Magic".For collecting souls the easiest way I think is to enchant an item with the "Soul catcher" enchantment. When you kill something with the weapon you will collect it's soul. It will go into any empty gem you have so make sure you either have plenty of open smaller ones otherwise a petty or lesser soul could get stuck in and ruin your larger gems. It takes some experience to get it down but once you catch on it is a piece of cake.

Soul Trapping
I am fairly positive you cannot soul trap a dragon, you absorb the soul and use them to unlock more dragon shouts. Absorbing them happens automatically. For soul trapping, you either get a weapon or enchant your own with a soul trap or use a soul trap spell. When you kill something with a soul with the weapon or spell it will then go into a soul gem. Better beasts have grander souls, humans always have a grand soul. You then can use those soul gems to create enchantment on weapons/armor at an Arcane Enchanter.
For perks if you don't know what route you are going, saving perks until you decide is probably good. There is a soft level cap of 50 and hard of like 81 I think. Gets harder to level after 50 because most of what you use the most will already be maxed out. So plan for 50 or so perks for your main character and put them into what works best because there are like 250 possible perks and you only get to use 50-80 of them. If you want to play as a thief/assassin, putting perks into like two handed or destruction magic is probably not recommended. If you play as a mage, don't really need much into like heavy armor.

Ok, so I obviously have overlooked something in the Companions quests. I'll have to look more closely at my open quest options. Thanks

This really isn't a spoiler, so I'll just answer w/o the tagsYes, you have the soul thing correct. The best way to do this is to make a bow with soultrap on it (1 second is all that's needed). As long as you carry around empty petty/common gems, this will keep you filled nicely on recharging-level soulgems. You eventually want greater and grand to enchant with. Getting the Black Star (rechargable soul gem that can hold a grand soul) makes it easy. It does not seem to be true for Dragons, though.

If you clear something it will respawn with the proper guys and quest items the next time around. I've done that a couple times. Note that it doesn't completely respawn everything - in my case a lot of the shrooms and items were not there the second time. So they've done this in a pretty slick manner.I hoarded mine, as well. My favorite perk thus far is the sneak perk where you get 3x damage for an arrow shot. That never gets old. And, frankly, I am loving most of the archery stuff.

It seems the PS3 Skyrim patch has been released.

I've not tried it yet.

:goodposting: Have that and my first enchanting was +16,18 and 20% of bow damage added to my different pieces of armor :sniper:

Also, and this might not suit you guys, but if you're finding that the game is getting too easy...

Do not ever activate any of the Ritual Stones that level things faster (ala Theif, Mage, Warrior, Lover, etc). I got the Steed stone (+100 carry weight & armor you're wearing doesn't factor into carry weight) and I never use trainers to level things I use anyway. But I almost never pickpocket, so I might use a trainer for that.

I do that so that my guy doesn't level too fast and the game get easy too quick. I'm level 27 and still get destroyed at times. I'm playing on either Adept or Expert level and find that the challenge is still just good. 1-shot some, get owned by others.

Just what I do and thought I'd pass it along.

The Shadowmarks book tells you what all of the marks mean: protected, good loot, fence, danger, etc. The marks themselves are somewhere on the exterior of the house, generally near the door. Sometimes at ground level, sometimes above the door... somebody who wasn't looking for them would probably never notice them, but when you know what to look for, they stand out pretty well.

But not every building has one, so don't drive yourself nuts. Many residences do, though. Especially swank ones.

If you want to see an example, go to Windhelm. Spot the "protected" mark on the Clan Cruel-Sea house, and the "loot" mark on both Clan Shatter-Shield and Viola Giordano's House.
Shadowmarks Book

In case you guys want to study up.
:goodposting: X 2 . thanks guys.

The "protected house" theory is interesting -- I hadn't even noticed that some of these people are connected to the Theives Guild.
It's pretty awesome. I don't enter a building now without checking for a shadowmark.
sorry if I missed this -- how/where do you check for this? They're just in that Shadowmarks book?

I have the ancient shrouded cowl (+35% damage with bows), elven bracers of archery (+20%) and a ring of eminent archery (+30%). Combine that with Archery = 90, Overdraw 5/5, and a legendary Daedric bow, and I'm doing north of 140 points of damage before even factoring in sneak attacks, critical shots, and the shock enchantment that I added to my bow. The thing I think is cool is that I actually found all of this stuff as loot, except for the bow which I crafted myself.

Nor did I until a couple of days ago. Add it to the ever-growing list of "reasons to read the books".

So after the Eagles got their butts kicked I turned on Skyrim and decided it was time to organize my skulls and gems. :nerd: So I was putting all of my skulls in the little pit inside right in front of the front door of my house and I was dumping all my gems on the table where the light hits them best. My wife sits on the couch and notices theres not much going on noise wise and asks what I am doing. I say nothing and keep hitting X slide down to drop 1 skull and repeat. (if you "hit drop all", the skulls fall on the floor as 1 skull instead of a giant pile). Then move over to the table and start doing the same process with all of my gems. She once again asks what I am doing so I begrudgingly explain it to her and she looks at me says "What did I marry?" :(
:lol:Were you OCD before Skyrim?

Not sure if this really needs spoiler tags, but just in case I have a question if anyone can answer please.

The Azura star quest (haven't done it yet), am I correct to infer that it is a kickass soul gem? Does it hold more than 1 soul or would I still need to keep the 5000 soul gems of various sorts I am carrying now?

You are correct - it is reusable

It only holds one soul at a time, but you can use it over and over. There are two ways it the quest can end - if you take it back to the mage, you get the "black star" version, which can trap human souls (grand). If you go back to azure, you only get the "can trap up to human" version. So if you have a bunch of small ones, and the black star and kill a bandit, the soul goes into the black star. It's nice, because Grand souls can be hard to get.

Hi

Question about the waking nightmares quest:

Anyone go the other route and kill Eramor before he could finish destroying the skull? What happens?

What about that dbag thief that gives you a sword in Winterhold? Anyone done that one?
This brings up another question i have:when these cats give me ####, I sell it. Creeper: I have this shield for you to hold.Stark: What's this about?Creeper: Don't worry about it and if you tell anyone I'll kill you.Stark: Ok, tough guy. Then I go sell it because I'm pissed he threatened meAm I doing this wrong?

Haven't figured out the multi-quote thing so thanks to all.

Am I doing this wrong?
Depends what you mean. The canned answer is "no. You're never doing something wrong. What you're doing is just how you're having the story unfold."But if you're actually asking "am I getting the optimal result from my actions?" then I don't know.

I killed the wandering bard by accident. I thought he was fighting my dog (he's my dog until I finish the quest which I don't plan on doing any time soon) so I put a couple arrows in his head. Found out he was actually fighting WITH my dog against some bandits. Couldn't tell from afar.

Sorry, guy.

Wish I could screenshot on the PS3.

Two bad guys sitting at a table. I use the zoom in/slow down with the bow and take one guy in the throat and the other in the back of the head before they even knew what was happening. The way they landed made it pretty obvious what had just gone down.

I have a problem with stealing. I'm new to the game (Level 4), but played Fallout 3/NV so I'm familiar with most mechanics. I steal things without being seen (hidden) and get away with it, but later I end up with a bounty on me (3 thugs tried to kill me) and later guards know me and confiscate my stolen goods. NO ONE SAW ME. How am I automatically wanted?
When it happened to me, I hadn't even left Riverwood yet. I was busy looting the town when the three thugs showed up. When I searched them, it turns out that Dorthe (the kid in the blacksmith's house) had taken out the contract. So either she saw me steal, or that house is protected.
Same thing happened to me. While at level 4, these thugs were more than I could normally handle. I had to glitch their pathing by standing on the lumbermill logs and shooting arrows at them till they died. THOSE BASTARDS KILLED SVEN.Oh, and no way that kid saw me loot the house I did. No one was nearby.

Did you look at their contract?

Only downsides I've seen to the game so far:

The openness sometimes paralyzes my decision making. If I do X now, will I regret having done it or not done it later? Should I buy this item? Take that perk?

The map is teh suck. It's hard to maneuver the world map, and the local ones look all gray and washed out, and I can't tell what the different shades are supposed to depict.

Huh, I just figured those were mercenaries who would be coming after me all game, ala the Talon company mercs in Fallout 3 who attack every week or two.I had a tough fight with them too. Had to reload so I could backpedal out of town so no townsfolk would die in the fighting. Fury worked like a charm. Hit them with it from long range and got them to fight each other. Then burned the lone survivor to a crisp.Fury and the similar higher level spells are really useful in multiple opponent fights you can see coming from away off.
