General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (1 Viewer)

Got totally frustrated last night.

I am doing the Azura star quest and I lose my companion. Which means I need to rejoin the college since she was a student there with me.

Then I try to bring the star to Nelmark (or whatever his name is) and he says he wont talk to me bc I have been expelled. OK, I leave and dragon music comes on. Awesome. I get the dragon down to nothing and I think he is dead. WRONG. I get blasted by something and die. Start over and no more dragon encounter.

Then I go to the goddess instead and I

Go into the star. The bad dude in there was so powerful that he conjures 3 dremoras. I kill them but dont have enough magic to deal with him. Its one blast and Im done. This happened 5 times.
I just shut it off and went upstairs in hopes of having the sechs. And my daughter had woken up and crawled into bed with wife. By the time she got back to sleep, wife hands me the remote and goes to sleep

Not a good night :hot:
I beat that guy by turning invisible, sneaking past his guards, then blasting him with everything I had. FWIW it took me 3 or 4 times to figure that out. I recall a few vulgarities whispered at the top of my lungs.
I hurried and pulled out my bow and got a shot in before he ran away, then summoned a fire chick, and waited for them to come to me. The two slowmo bow perks are awesome for dodging arrows and spells.
Bows are unbelievably awesome in this game. I murdered everybody in this area without getting a hand laid on me.
Just got my enchanting up to 100 and put two enchantments (Fire and Ice damage) on my legendary ebony bow. The Icy Hot bow takes down giants on two hits. Adding two enchantments must be on the perk tree?

A nice tip for anyone who's found Sky Haven Temple -

If you go out the back exit, you'll be on top of the mountain. Directly below is a river. Use the "Become Ethereal" shout and jump off the mountain to the river below. There you'll find a broken boat half moored on a thin sliver of coast. Inside is a crapload of precious gems: rubies, diamonds, emeralds, etc. In the river (underwater) is a chest with further loot. I would have never found this except I like base jumping, so saved then used the ethereal shout and jumped. Imagine my surprise when I landed on top of the mother lode. :lmao:
 Thanks for this... I was shouting and jumping off of everything yesterday.

So any tips for fending off multiple attackers? I am getting worked. Is there a wide-area paralysis spell I can learn? Army of conjured attackers? Lvl 15 right now.

Conjuring something or having a buddy helps. Backing off can work so you can pick off one at a time. Hiding somewhere and using the bow can work too.

Thanks guys. Ill try agin tonight. I might actually see if any of my saves go back to where my companion was still alive. Just because I feel bad that she dies trying to help my cause. Not sure how far back the saves go.
You do know that bad guys won't kill a companion, right? If they die, it's due to friendly fire.
not true.
This. I didnt kill her. She stormed into a fight with a mage and a necromancer while I ran out as quick as I could to replenish my magic

Destruction cloaks. Fury spells so they attack each other.

it's at the top, need enchanting at lvl 100 to get it. I am at around 87 now and may just grind through enchanting a bunch of bull#### tonight to get there. Do the double enchantments take 2 soul gems? or can you do 2 with 1?

Fury spells, good call, I have one of these.Sneaking is not working because they are tightly packed and I can't kill the first one on a sneak attack alone. But conjuring and then casting a fury spell is a good thing to try.Is Fury a wide-area spell or do I have to hit them individually?

I helped all the jabronies out who were stuck under Markarth. I get the feeling I haven't seen the last of them, and they laid waste to about 60 people on their way out.
I have no idea what you're talking about, but I'm looking forward to it. Reminds me of when I let the ghouls into the tower in Fallout3.

It's the jailed forsworn crew that is under Markarth. After you meet Elydis (sp?) in Markath after the killing in the public market, he asks you to meet him at the Talos Shrine. You start talking to him and you have to do a few small quests to open the storyline but you wind up in a jail under the city. After jumping through a few hoops down there, you escape with the forsworn crew (6 or 8 people) and they just ####### mowed down all of the city guards and ran off to their hideout. Cool to watch -- but they appear to be really nasty and a I'm not looking forward to fighting them if thats what the story comes to.

Getting the dog Barbas helps. He can't die since he's part of a quest. They can knock him out and then come after you, but hopefully he can tank them long enough for you to kill off most of them. Only thing with Barbas is he pushes you around which is annoying, but if you are playing on a PC there is a mod out now that stops him from doing that. Mjoll is a good follower to use as well as she makes a good tank.Edited to add:If you are playing a thief type and joined the Thieves Guild Mjoll might not help you.

Yah. Wading in meant he would 1-shot me.Something I missed in that side storyline but caught from the wiki reading about it afterwards.
The guildmaster sacrificed two of the young College students to seal Morokai into the chamber. WTF, man!
He does apologize though

It starts in Falkreath. A guard will ask you if you saw a strange dog and then send you to talk to the blacksmith which then starts a quest line. You do the quest to where the dog starts following you and he will stay with you as long as you don't finish the quest.

When I went to meet him in the temple the guards arrested me and were going to take all my stuff. I loaded the save before this and figured I'd go back once I dumped all my good stuff at my house. Do I need to do this or will I get all of it back from them at some point?

You go to jail and don't have anything down there to start with, but once you escape with the crew you get it all back.

Discovered an abandoned mine yesterday trying to find a bandit barrow for a quest. I went in expecting to see a new bandit hideout, but the place was empty except for a miner's journal about his missing buddy and an open waterfall in the middle of the mine. Or at least it appeared empty...

I don't know how it worked since they don't really stick out at all or have a ledge, but you can jump on one of the rocks below the waterfall and very carefully jump up to the waterfall. In the back of the waterfall you find the missing buddy covered by a landslide and three veins of gold ore

Decided to do some barrow-diving to learn some shouts.Last night cleared out a dungeon, got to the Word Wall, and it gave me the third word for a shout that I knew only the first word for. So word not absorbed. ####. Reload a few times, same result. I look up on the wiki where the other location for the shout is, thinking if it's, for whatever reason, hard-coded. So I go to the other location, go to the wall, and still only get the third word (or rather, don't). :hot:Effin' Bethesda.
So that's how you get the shouts, by clearing dungeons? That would explain why I only have one, because I've been doing a bunch of side quests but no dungeons. I had just decided to clear off all my miscellaneous dungeon quests last night, so I take it I'll be getting some more shouts from those?

Doing the main story arc will get you a bunch relatively quickly too.

If you own and operate a business in Skyrim, it's best to keep your laborers around as long as possible, even if operating at a loss. Skyrim's unemployed laborers can be a real nasty lot, willing, quite recklessly, to spend every last gold coin to enact lethal revenge on whomever pisses them off. Repeat: beware the unemployed of Skyrim.

Guess I'd only seen Lydia die by my hands... Turns out poison or power attacks can kill:

The game treats permanent (non-canon) followers in a similar way to "essential" NPCs, but still allowing the possibility of their death. When your follower would die to an enemy attack or a trap, they will be incapacitated for some time and begin to recover their health, just like essential NPCs; enemies will stop attacking or targeting them during this time. However, if they lose all their health again during this period, they will die for good. Thus, you should try to move the fight away from them, so that they are not hit by a stray arrow or area-effect spell. They can also die if hit with a damage-over-time poison that is stronger than their health recovery. They can also die from enemy power-attacks.

Huh. Lydia died in front of a Dragon. I thought it was because I was standing behind it and shouted, but maybe it really killed her.

There's a variety of other places. But the shouts are an old Nord thing, and so after getting 1 or 2 out of some old Nord barrows, I was :lightbulb:. I don't know if all of them have one, but they have better odds than others.
Good to know, thanks. I guess I'd better check some of those out as well as do a few more steps on the main quest

Still getting worked by those freaking bandits. Four of them in a tight space: Ork beserker, archer, two-handed Axe wielder, regular.

I can't do anything without tipping them all off to my presence. Fury does not seem to work. The best success I have had is laying down fire runes (which alerts them), then conjuring a flame atronach and shouting them both when they are battling that. Then torching both with flames. But while doing this I am getting shot with arrows, and the axe-wielder is just biding time before finishing me off. Three swipes with that axe and I am done.

So i've managed to kill the Orc and other bandit consistently but as soon as I do the archer and axewoman wipe me out.

That freeze shout comes in handy for me in these type of situations. You should be able to freeze all or most of them and concentrate on them 1 at at time to kill off at least a couple of them.

Or just use some potions? Seems like this should be a cake walk at level 15.

Sometimes I hate this game. Just tried for an hour and a half to defeat Malyn. No dice and I'm so stubborn that I can't just leave and come back later

I watched a video of a guy doing it. Those 3 summoned guys don't ever leave where they are and be hides. I try it and all 3 are on me in 10 seconds.

Freeze Shout:

I've got first level breath of frost and it doesn't freeze these guys or even slow them down

Potions:

Using all I have every time and still getting worked.

Ironflesh: Have stoneflesh and tried that and it did not do squat.

Thanks for all the help, going to keep trying. Maybe leave room after I have killed the first two?

huh, if that's the same guy I'm thinking of I beat him pretty easily with the bow. (87ish damage and absorbs health)I do recall taking two breaks to gulp potions, though

My only advice would be to try to draw them to you one at a time. Rune spells have their place, but they cost too much to be a primary attack, IMO. They're nice to lie down if you have some time for your magicka to recharge.Once you get ice storm you'll love having four of them crammed in a small space. Dual-cast ice storms absolutely demolish people.

This is impossible in this room. Such a small space that they all have clear views of each other. Even if I managed to kill the first one in one blow it would still alert the other three.

As I said earlier, after trying a whole lotta things, I chased after him, summoned an atronach where the walkway bends, and then ran back. He quickly came back to attach the atronach and once I started plinking him with arrows, he ran at me. Then I worked him over and quaffed potions until I got pulled out of there.
How did you deal with the 3 flunkies. At this point, I can't even deal with them. I chased after him and used the speed shout. Didn't do anything. I know it's user problems. I'll keep at it but it's frustrating right now.

I used sneak to get up to the first left turn. I bombed the first guy with arrows (3 i think) to kill him. Then I backed off back to the door (had to potion up too iirc). Then I was able to sneak attack the second guy again. Conjured a flamer after the jig was up and was able to take the other two. Malyn is a #### compared to those 3.

After you conjure the atronach, try duel wielding health and flame or ice. You'll use magika but you'll also inflict damage while your health is constantly replenished. I'd wear some type of magika replenshing mage's robes too.

Thanks guys. I'll try again to tonight. I will be victorious

Matt's > your flame antronoch anything special. They always seem to take mine out real quick.

I also don't have any perks on my arrow so I'm sure that is hurting me also.

Nope. Same spell as yours. I may have cast him twice in that fight. But the real key is just getting Malyn cut off from the herd and finishing him off before they come around. I got his attention with the arrows but then once he charged me I used some combation of destruction and swords to the face. Someone else's idea of an invisibility potion would also probably work out well.
I tried potion of brief invisibility like fly said and it didn't even phase them. Saw right thru it
