General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (2 Viewers)

As long as you tell Mjoll that your moving and then have her wait wherever he will return to Riften. He just might have a little accident on the way home.
So basically, since I moved her to Whiterun, I have to tell her we are moving back to Riften, but put her on a "wait here" order. Then Arien will start traveling, and I swack him then? Will he actually start walking? Or do I just fast travel to the house in Riften and he'll be there?

This is more of a question for all of the vets on here---When you first started out (like level 15) how broad did you distribute your perks? Or how broad should I be distributing them?I have like:7 on one-handed2 Archery2 Destruction1 Restoration1 Heavy Armor1 Sneak1 SmithingTIA
That seems pretty spread out. I basically went all archery and sneak as I was building a stealth sniper character. But I don't think you can really screw up any build to badly. You'll probably still have no problem finishing. You just won't have an uber fighter type guy.Edit to add: I'll defer to the experts on Heavy Armor plus Sneak. Logic tells me that won't work real well. I would think your sneak would have to be pretty high to be effective with heavy armor.

I got caught up in trying to be the Swiss Army Knife of characters. When i want to be stealthy I take off all the steel armor and use the lightweight stuff and take my bow out. I mainly use that on my way to the mission. Then once in the caves I'll change to my heavy armor and dual Samauri swords and go from there. I'm having a lot of fun using the dual one-handed weapons but as I moved forward it seemed like I needed the other stuff more and more. Like I mentioned in a nother post, I ran into these trolls and I just can't go toe to toe with them so I felt the need to change it up.How many different slots would you dump perks into? 3'ish?

When I started I too just grabbed perks as they went along, not thinking of strategy. But then I realized that there is no way you can possibly max out all the ability trees, and that the really awesome perks take a lot of prior gets to reach. I think if you want to maximize your character, you need to pick a few things and stick with them. The good news is that many of the skill trees are complementary though.Things I think you need to choose between:*** Light vs. Heavy Armor -- Makes no sense to level up both of these, choose one and go with it*** Two Handed vs. One Handed -- Same rules apply, but I with a caveat that you could justify doing both if you opt to avoid Archery and/or Block*** Range Weapons -- I chose Archery, and basically do all of my range attacking with a bow, and use lots of poisons and magicka alchemy to serve purpose...but if you're a magicka user, you might not bother with archeryI personally think Smithing and Enchanting go hand in hand. I've used them both in conjunction, and think you need both to really make the best armor/weapons possible in the game.

I've been holding perks. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them and I want to read the guides and things that explain them. It seems that you can get plenty of weapon/armor bonus by enchanting/smithing and those types of bonuses are not easily available for magic. I wonder what the least used perk tree is.

I think at this point if you tell her to wait in the house then Arien will leave for Riften. You can follow him out and once you are all by yourself he falls down a mountain or something fun like that. Or you can fast travel to Riften and just wait around until he goes into his house.

I am assuming then that I have to select her as a companion first? Right now, she's just the wife. I am totally soloing the game. She was just a marriage option for me. So she stays put all the time.

So I finally decided to do this side mission where I have to find this guys sword from White Run. I'm being sent to White River Watch (I THINK)....I enter the cave and there's a long hallway type of area and 2 big ### trolls in what looks to be a wooded area. Long story short, these trolls (my first encounter with them) are owning me! I can't get out of this hallway before being beaten to death by them! Anyway, after hours of thsi I decided to Google this and see if there was any tips but I can't find anything for this area or this quest. This quest is only showing me some tower area and bridge that I alrady did. Anyone here know what area/ quest I'm talking about?
I got killed there alot too. I think I snuck in and made sure to engage one at a time and saved right away after I killed the first one. Then left, rested and came back in and took out the 2nd one.I am sort of mad, I am off work today and wanted to do some Skyrim exploring and of all days for Wiki to be doing their Censorship blockout junk....grrrr...

Yep have her follow you and then do the wait thing. Once you are done with the hit, then you can tell her to part ways and she should return to your house.

Why does that affect you? This is a great resource Unofficial Elder Scrolls Page

Wow, now I have to think! Let's see, my main areas of concentration (going from memory here):Archery (pretty much every perk)Blacksmthing (went up one side of the tree only to get to dragon)Enchanting (up the middle of the tree only, trying to get to double enchantment abiltiy)Sneak (Didn't finish the tree, just got to where I wanted and left the last three or so unused)Light Armor (about half the tree, mostly the matching set bonuses)After that, I bought a few of the basic (bottom of the tree) one handed perks to increase damage. I think I also bought maybe one Destuction perk early on before I went away from magic altogether. And I bought just enough Blocking to be able to stop arrows. I am level 47 with two perks left to buy, the 100% archery perk and the 100% enchanting perk. Anything after that will finally be just "whatever" perks.

Cool, thanks.p.s. To all, sorry if I ask some questions that are easily attainable from the wiki. Unfortunately all gaming sites are blocked for me at work, so when a thought enters my head, I tend to throw it out there.

Speech, lockpicking, or pickpocket (is that a perk tree? I forget).
Agree. I can see where Speech may have helped me once or twice in the game, but that's it. It just forced me to have to get nasty with some folks. Lockpicking? Useless. I know there is a perk to make containers hold better loot, but nowhere near wiorth the perks it takes to get there. I haven't pickpocketed a single person in the game. I'm a bad-arsed dragon hunter. I don't go around stealing 5 gold out of someone's trousers!

When you get on the page you want just hit the red x to stop it loading and you won't get blacked out.

They seem to rush me before I can get out of that hallway/ path. Would a shield maybe help me block their attacks?

Question: The further you get along in the main storyline, do more and more dragons appear?

Case in point, got done with Blackreach last night and upon leaving had 3 dragons attack me at once!

Luckily, Macurio and I are beasts and took care of it no problem but it just seems as though I see them all the time now.

:kicksrock: I have not had more than 1 dragon attack me.
Am at the point where I have retrieved the elder scroll in the MQ.

We're at exactly the same part of Main Quest.I was walking out of Alftrand with Elder Scroll in hand when this occured. Not sure if it was glitch or not.

I read some where that the max levels is around 81. If that's right you can level up a few traits pretty good.
L81 is what you hit if you level up everything to 100. Most people won't get much past L51 so I'd plan around that.
I'm actually at level 50 now, and still have the main quest, the civil war and a couple of guilds to finish up. Only thing I have at 100 is smithing, but do have two hand, heavy armor, lockpick, sneak, alchemy, and speech at 75 to 90 each. I'm trying to do all the major quests i can find in my first game before starting another. I did grind out smithing and a little for pickpocketing and speech, but everything else was from regular game play. See what level I get to when its all done.

So I could pretty much dump many perks into One-handed, Archery, Heavy Armor and something else? Am I wasting time going hard into the one-handed AND Archery?

I can only give you my opinion on how I play it. There are many folks here that are in to the nuts and bolts about how to maximize everything out, etc. So take this for what it is worth.I rely almost solely on archery. It's my thing. Sneak. Snipe. Dead. I have the few one handed and block skills that I do because, occasionally, you are going to get stuck having to duke it out a bit. So I wanted my skill to be high enough that I could still come out on top when need be in a fight. I think you have to have SOME sort of melee backup to go along with slinging arrows. So I wouldn't think the one handed is a waste. I will say, my one handed perks were limited to the original 5 upgrades at the bottom of the tree.

Ok question about Daedra, I'm pretty far along in the main quest and have done a ton but I haven't come across a single Daedra. Where are these ####ers?
The only ones I can recall are in the blackstar you get put into and in another quest related location.(drawing a blank)You looking for hearts specifically?
Yes I check every apothicary never have any. The only one I can find anywhere is the one in the Companions area but I get tired of waiting for it to respawn.
The guy in the The Mages College who sells black gems also has hearts.
yeah he is glitched out though. If you don't buy anything from him before you complete the College quest he won't sell anything to you.

I'm also at the same point in the MQ.....In the same boat as you, I've only seen one dragon at a time.

I was mainly looking (like you it seems) to have some type of versatility. In theory I would like to be able to start off with the Bow and Arrows and then when things get close go to my dual-wielding one-handed weapons which at the moment is one sword and one mace. I have 7 perks into the one-handed so if I get a couple of arrows into you and you get close it usually works out well for me. Maybe I can just stick to that and mix in the Heavy Armor too.

I don't know if it's a waste but I've only used Archery and don't use blades for anything. It's whatever you prefer doing. I haven't put anything in to armor, and only 4 into sneak(just enough to get the bow perk) and it's working out so far.

What a frustrating day for this game today. I had an hour or so to play today. I thought I would knock out the Temple of Dibella or whatever it is called so I could get access to an enchantment trainer. I have never trained a single point in enchantment and wanted to speed things up. So I start up the game and it freezes about ten minutes in. Reset. Start again. Get the quest and start trecking towards my destination. I drop down from the mountain on to the top of the keep and snipe about four bad guys. I now have a choice (as I am looking out towards the road). Go left, or go right. I chose right (wrong). I end up clearing the entire keep out only to find, had I gone left, the first room was my destination. About 30 to 40 wasted minutes there. Ok, well, at least killing everyone was fun. Get back to the Temple and complete the quest. Rest until "duty hours," go in to talk to Hamal, and get "Sorry, you know all that I can teach." UGH!!!!! My entire play period today was nothing but a complete and utter waste of precious game time. I accomplished absolutely nothing.

p.s. In case you are wondering, you can never train above 90. Lesson learned.

Yup
I was level 55 and hadn't done more of the main quest than going to the stormbeards the first time, and I was getting multiple dragons. There might be something to do with the main quest too, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is just level dependent.

On Heavy armor and sneak, you'll be fine if you pick up the perk and/or put a Muffle enchantment on your boots. The perk is right there near the bottom of the tree so doesn't cost much to pick it up. Someone went overboard and kept reloading saves to make a chart of how far he could sneak up to someone while wearing heavy armor without any bonuses, with the perk, with muffle, and with both the perk and muffle. Just having either one was a huge improvement over having neither.

Also there was some discussion previously about how you can max out your armor rating just wearing smithed heavy armor without putting any actual perks into heavy armor.

Big Gay Orc went home to Big Gay Smith for a tussle and rest.

Been playing a third character now, a mage, and man is this a lot of fun. I finally got access to a whole bunch of spells I never even knew existed (after playing two characters into the 40s!) - stuff like flame cloak, fireball, etc. I'm having loads of fun.

Now I'm on my way to some place called The Labyrinth in search of the Staff of Magnus.

Ooooh, I liked Labyrinthia. Long, but I enjoyed it.So expound on this mage character. My second run through, I am debating between pure melee guy that just goes in and swacks everything, or the pure mage that does magicky things.

I'm planning on going mage at some point too :blackdot:
:sehorn: Mage is gonna be my next run too

So how many folks are running multiple characters concurrenty? Seems like at least a few are. I am very much a "complete character one, then start with character two" type of player. I think I'd get all kinds of mixed up with my saves and whatnot trying to run multiple guys. But I could see where it would keep it fresh too going back and forth depending on your mood.

Yeah I have enough trouble keeping up with one. I couldn't run multiple characters.

On Xbox my main character is saved to the Cloud, my second is saved to the arcade internal harddrive, third will be saved to the 60GB harddrive.

Took out my first blood dragon last night.

On the way to him though, there was some kind of pillar type thing that blasted me with a huge bolt of electricity, took 90% of my health, then hit me again and killed me before I could get out of the way. The next time I headed there, I shot the pillar with an arrow and went by, and got pvvn3d by the dragon. After that, I saved just before this pillar and experimented with sneaking and not sneaking. Both times got me fried again. Tried just sprinting through its range hoping to not get hit, tried shooting it again. Finally, I went a little down the side of the cliff next to the path and got behind the pillar. There was a lesser soul gem in the pillar that I picked up which seemed to render the trap useless.

WTF was that?

I've seen a few of those pillars. I was able to block it with a shield.

Yup... little pillars that are powered by soul gems. Most I've seen shoot fire in one direction. You can either shoot the gem out with a bow, or go to the other side and just grab it... maybe telekenisis would work too... but haven't tried it yet.

So you actually ran in to one of these outdoors?? I run in to them quite a bit in dungeons and love them. Great source of gems once I knock them out with a bow. Don't know that I have ever run in to one outdoors though. Being a directional weapon, it seems almost silly.
