General Malaise "vs." reading comprehension ; also some talk of skyim and the elder scrolls (3 Viewers)

Ok, Morokei is pwning my mage like a prom date who wandered into Homer's bar.

Need advice.
Character type and build?
Looks like everyone online took him out easily by shooting arrows in sneak mode. I don't have that option.

I'm a pure mage.

Level 19.

55 Destruction (Fire perks, as well as Impact, Dual Casting, Rune Master, etc.)

41 Conjuration (only use dual casted Fire Atronachs)

44 Alteration (one perk in Mage Armor, doubling Stoneskin)

My best weapon is the Staff of Jyrik Gaudurson (25 points shock, 50 points magicka). I only turn to it as a last resort as it runs out of charges pretty fast.

I'm screwed, huh?
Pretty sure I found a system to beat him.
I'm camping up in the highest walkway (where one of the binding wizards were) and lauching Fire Runes down his pathway. Then I entice him with a Fire Bolt, he screams, and runs right over my fire rune. If I take a hit, I hide and heal and wait for my magicka to recharge.

It's slow going, but he's down to 50% health and I'm doing fine.

I am also a mage.
I ended up with a pure melee kill. Get as close to him as you can. Shoot the second mage. Then whale away on him and don't give him a chance to get off a spell at all. A follower (lydia is perfect for this) will help a lot. I got killed many, many times until I tried this and he went down pretty easy with this style.

I'll bet some of you guys have a neater, more organized house in Skyrim as opposed to your real life house. Just don't let the wife know.
All this talk of storing stuff made me want to try something. I loaded up all my stuff that i had stored, picked up everything around my house and went and let it all loose in my alchemy lab with the doors closed. Roughly 1700lbs of stuff landed, my screen started stuttering and glitching, my guy started acting like he was taking damage and then poof....it pushed me out into the living area by the fire. :bag:

Strom Atronach scroll is your bestest friend

So I'm way too lazy to read through this thread. Haven't played computer games since Diablo II. I liked that game a lot. Liked Ultima Online and Daggerfall. Would I like this game? Will it suck me in and ruin my life.

Thank you in advance.

This is a ridiculous flaw in game design here. Every time I see somebody having trouble with Morokei, it's because they're a mage. The rogues aren't having problems with him and the tanks aren't having problems with him. When you make a quest line for a Mage's guild, the quests should be HARDER for rogues and and tanks than they are for mages. The accomplished mage should have the easiest time with it. The Mage quest final battle should be in a well-lit room with no shadows, and the boss should be on a nice perch which is difficult (if not impossible) for a tank to reach (and he should have some kind of protection from arrows). The fact that mage characters are flummoxed by this encounter is ridiculous.

In fairness, level 19 is a little low to be taking on a dragon priest. Get closer to 30.

Got done with the Civil War quest(s) last night

You guys are right

The ending is completely underwhelming

A couple of interesting things happened:

First, I had previously cleared out a barrow and gotten the word of power, but then later got a quest in it. When I went back in, a relatively easy boss had spawned, but the word of power also respawned with a different one, giving me a 2-for-1 since I got to go straight to the end with the mechanisms they use for easy access. Nice.

Second, it just boggles my mind how creative the dev team was with the things in here. Just when you think every barrow is going to be more draugr, you find a fun and new one like Yngol Barrow. :hifive:

I suppose it was unneeded given how easy it is to make money in the game once you know how, but I still hate leaving loot behind. It's the principle of the thing. :nerd:
:lmao: I have this underlying OCD to go back and clear out and sell everything in every dungeon. I too have the carry weight seed stone, extra pockets, and going for the conditioning heavy armor perk. Also helps to carry several weapons to choose from.
I have so much crap now that I couldn't sell it all unless that's all I did for about 8 hours.
Yeah, my house in whiterun is ripe for an episode of Hoarders.
Do you not use the furniture?I have all my stuff in containers. For example the trunk upstairs in the main room holds all my weapons, the dresser holds all my materials for smithing, the apothecary bag holds all my alchemy items, etc...
I haven't gotten there yet but when I played Oblivion every house I owned was stuffed to the gills. Every bit of furniture was used, every square foot of floor space. I had full sets of every armor, weapon class, just gobs of crap everywhere.

Just got through a big chunk of "A night to remember..." I think that was the most fun I've had in this game yet. I felt like I was playing "Dude Where's my Car - the RPG".

I played a pure Mage and died several dozen times to him as well trying to blast away at range. It's difficult for me to fight other mages like that because their aim is inevitably better than mine. What worked for me is getting in close on him and blasting him with lightning. I had to chug a couple of magicka potions but just kept staggering him and he dropped pretty quickly.I now use this tactic when facing powerful casters and it has worked pretty well.

Trying to decide between these 3 missions.

Talk to the Greybeards

Join Imperial Army

Assasinate the leader of the Silver Hand

Any suggestions on what I should do?

Why not all three?
I guess I should have said which one should I start with. Sorry.

ETA- I'm going to do all 3 I just wasnt sure which would be more beneficial to start now

Have to admit, this is one quest line (or two if you consider both sides) that just never interested me. I never even considered pursuing either side. Archmage? Yep, sounds cool. Leading the Thieves Guild? Heck yea. Dark Brtoherhood? Had planned it before I decided to save it for round two. But the whole civil war thing, meh. I have dragons to worry about. I'll let the two factions handle their own petty problems.

Well, Diablo is hack n slash, so that's really a different syle game. I never played Ultima Online, so I can't comment there. But as a continuation of the series, I would think if you enjoyed Daggerfall, you'd enjoy this a lot. And if you do, yes it is a huge time sink. But the ability to save means you can play as much or as little as you want in any given session.

Last night I ran into the third bug I have found, starting to get a bit pissed about these.

First bug is I picked up the Legendary Scourage early on in the game, but can't give it to Urag to complete his fetch the book quest. Second is the inability to get the Reporting for Duty dialogue from Rikke in the Regain Winterhold Hold, so I can't complete the Reunification of Skyrim nor finish the Imperial Quest line. Last night was the worst though. I finally decided to take the elder scroll to the throat of the world for Alduin's Bane Quest. So I read the scroll learn Dragonrend and then I started fighting Alduin, I have a pretty powerful bow and I dragonrend his ### and put about 10 arrows into him. His health does nothing and I get smoked after rolling through 90% of my health potions. Reloaded and dragonrend him, mark him for death and put another 10-12 arrows in him, health doesn't move again. Rinse and repeat about 10 times. Really frustrated at this point since I am putting 2000+ points of damage into him and his health doesn't move at all. So I head over to the wiki and low and behold another fing glitch that Alduin becomes invulnerable on the Xbox if you don't let him finish his speach. To fix it you have to reset the memory cache and reboot. Nothing like wasting 45 minutes.

That bat#### swede youtube video put me on a new path. I am now a tank orc. I gave him dreadlocks and wolverine sideburns and a dark complexion, and named him Blorc (/stefon)

I got him up to lvl5 last night and got the fists of steel perk. heavy armor, smithing, two handed.

Blorc smash.

This is a character I want to do. Full on smash your way through everything. Got to be fun.

I have tried everything that is listed on the different wikis that are workarounds, fixes for it too.

:sadbanana: Hoping that once I progress in the main quest to a certain point that it unlocks that, or that the newest patch, 1.4, fixes it. Should be out soon from what I was reading earlier.

Have this issue too. Did the dungeon for the main quest. Picked up the books while I was there. So now, while I am in there chatting with him, I ask him if he has anything that needs done and he tells me to go get the book. I'm like "Cool, have it right here." So I reinitiate dialog, no option to turn it in. Real life me is like "WTF dude, it's right freaking here, take it!!!" But nope, he apparently wants me to go back and retrace my steps through an empty dungeon to get another copy. No thanks, not interested. I'll live with it in my quest log.

What's usually in the DLC's for a game like this?
an 8-10 hour plot extension or side note with a new area.
Are they usually free?
If by "usually" you mean "ever", well, the answer is still no. I will add, one of the biggest things that DLCs normally provide is the ability to further level up as most games have a level cap. Not sure how that will work in this case. Maybe return level 50 thru 75 to more normal upgrade times as opposed to taking longer or something. Do you get perks after 50? If not, it may allow that for instance.

Thanks for the info. I'm new to this series and wasn't sure what they may or may not be adding. How long after the game do they typcally come out?Thansk again, I'm limited to what I can look up at work.

Usually between 6-12 mo. after initial release there is a DLC or two

Let me guess, I can't drop, sell or store it because it will tell me it is a quest item right? I can live with that I guess. I never go in to the book portion of my inventory anyways. I quit picking those up long ago.Side question for you real estate mongers. Does doing side quests for the Jarl's advisor count towards the good will needed to get a house? I have done about 7 or 8 bounty missions for the Riften Jarl's right hand lady because I want to buy the house there. But I just can't get that option, the buy a house one. I've only done a few other minor quests for folks there (Jewels for the jewel salesperson, Mjoll's sword, fire salts for the blacksmith, jewels for the dudes wedding ring). I am guessing the bounty missions don't count?

IIRC bounty quests don't count as helping people of the hold.ETA and you are right you can't do jack with that book going forward. Can't drop it, sell it, burn it, etc. Now that I found the steed stone it's not too bad, but I hate carrying around an extra 1 stone item.

I have a lot of Thieves Guild items like that. Return this item to Delvin. He won't take it, I can't drop it. The main TG quest is broken, so I'm stuck on that line. No biggie but this is my sneak build. If Dark Brotherhood breaks I'll just start over.

Pretty much every item in the Bard's Guild gets locked in your inventory too. Including a 4 lb. Lute!!!!

SO I had my first threesome last night and it turned into a foursome.

I was traveling to a quest and I was near mixwater mill when I heard a dragon screech. I looked up in the sky and I can see the dragon circling a little ways away, above a small hill. So I run up the hill and I start attacking the dragon. Its an Elder dragon. As I am fighting it, I see another dragon nearby, circling, firing at the ground. I think to myself, "Great, 2 for 1!" As I kill the Elder dragon I look up and not a second later a giant slams me in the head. I guess I know what the dragon was attacking. I quickly dispatch the giant and then take out the frost dragon.

Probably the funnest fight I have had so far. Not the most challenging. That was a freaking room with 22 or so draugr at the end of the quest that come out of the walls 4 at a time and the room doesnt unlock until you kill all of them. That was a fun one, too.

I love lots and lots of people to fight. Anybody know any cool dungeons with lots of bad guys to kill? Seems most of them just 2 maybe 3 at the most to fight at one time.

You do get perks above lvl50.Also, the DLCs are usually about $10 each. With Fallout3, they released 5 DLC packages. Then about 6 months after that they released the Fallout 3 "Game of the Year" edition which is the original game + all DLC content for $50 or $60.

Does anyone know if the Mask of Morokei and the Archmage robes stack their reg ability?

I see both listed in my Active Effects, but I wonder if anyone knew for sure.

Maybe I have to find all the instruments first...not sure.

What exactly do you mean by Winterhold questline? I did the entire College line, I am the Arch Mage. But I don't recall having any sort of quest line going for Winterhold itself.

Ok. Yes, I am done with all that. I can't say for sure whether I went back to him after that or not. Guess I'll check next time I am playing and pass by that way.

Ok, bit the bullet and started my second Toon last night.

With my first guy, he was the typical Sneak/Bow/Destruction Magic Guy, so this one is a straight-up beater...Orc with 2-handed weapons and heavy armor.

I actually got to level 4 before even exiting the first dungeon (where the guy is leading you around while the dragon attacks), simply by repeatedly sneak-attacking the guide in the back with my giant Sword. Played for 3 hours last night, and am neck-deep in the Companions storyline, which is nice because I did not do that with Elf mage sneaky-guy.

His Name is Braga-Broga (named after an NPC Ogre character in one of my old AD&D campaigns :nerd: :nerd: :nerd: :nerd: )
